When I was younger I used to prefer the NIV because I didn't feel like thinking. Now i read the KJV. Big difference.

That’s powerful! I think you hit it on the head…it’s a matter of wanting to read and understand it versus not allowing oversimplified translations to determine meaning for you. The NIV is a Dynamic Equivalent designed to be just that…a thought for thought translation. I’M PROUD OF YOU!!

I like that it's all under three minutes. It's a quick reference. If I understand correctly, the first are examples of the English language losing its richness. I'm from South America, and we have the same loss. Our "King James" is "Reina-Valera," and it has Spanish that's alive only in Spain. In South American Spanish, for example, we lost the differentiation in the possessive pronouns between the third-person singular (his/hers) and second-person plural (yours).

I do my absolute best to power pack as much in a small amount of time as possible. Language (translation) is the biggest barrier to understanding the Bible with accuracy. But it’s a joy discovering and gaining insight into these interesting nuances.

I'm confused what the second person means and I'm having trouble looking it up.

Better yet, don't use the KJV. Comparatively speaking, it's a garbage translation riddled with archaic language and flat-out errors. We've had over 400 years to improve upon and manifest everything we've learned about the culture and contexts of biblical times. As a minister and scholar, I personally recommend the NRSVue (New Revised Standard Version - Updated Edition), but several other good translations also exist.

While the King James Bible may use what many may consider to be archaic language, calling it a "garbage translation" is a very extreme view. It has historical significance and literary value. Additionally, preferences for translations can vary, and some may appreciate the KJV's language 🙋🏾‍♂️. The NRSVue and other modern translations are valuable, offering clarity based on contemporary understanding, but dismissing the KJV entirely overlooks its cultural impact and spiritual resonance.

The first miraculous catch of fish involves Peter, James, and John. The second miraculous catch of fish involves Peter, Thomas, Nathanael, and Zebedee's sons (James and John). If you count the verses in which the names Peter, James, and John (first catch) appear in the Gospels, they add up to 153 in that "garbage translation." If you count the times Peter, Thomas, Nathanael, James, and John (second catch) are mentioned, you get 153 in that "garbage translation." Guess how many fish they caught the second time? Many "improved" modern versions get around ~150. NRSVue is one. For being "a scholar," you lack knowledge of that which you criticize. And also, a professional use of vocabulary: "Garbage translation."

Both of you completely skipped over the modifier I used: COMPARATIVELY. It’s indeed a beautiful translation that’s arguably the most influential literature of Western civilization, but as a faithful, usable, readable translation of the biblical manuscripts we have, we have so many better resources at our disposal now. There’s no rational reason for so many to be still stuck on the KJV.

Certainly, your usage of the word "COMPARATIVELY" was noted. However, everything you said following it significantly eclipsed its impact.
