I received this letter too from IRS. It’s said. We denied or reduced one or more credits claimed on your 2022 tax return We recently denied or reduced the following credits: • Earned Income Tax Credit (EIC) But On the paper I see only my name and home addres, but no social security number on the paper and no notice date No nothing information on the right up top as you have there.. this is scam?
I'm not sure. What I would suggest is that you call the IRS (or visit the IRS in person) to verify that this is a legitimate notice. If there is a phone number on the notice, don't use it. Instead, use a phone number from the IRS website: www.irs.gov/help/let-us-help-you. If you have an online IRS account, you can verify outstanding notices on your account. It's possible that the IRS stopped putting Social Security numbers on mailed notices to protect taxpayer information. But regardless, there should be a notice date, particularly if the IRS calculated a tax bill on your 2022 return (which presumably would've happened if they denied a credit). In either case, I would take it seriously, but proceed with caution.
You might receive a notice, but you should see specific instructions on your letter. If the letter tells you that you need to pay back the IRS because of the credit, then you should do that. But if there are no specific instructions on the letter, then I would keep it for future reference.
