Some additional tips from Derf_Jagged if you want to be extra careful with getting your console cleaned up: - If you changed your np_environment, change it back to "np" first or you won't have PSN access on OFW - Some games scan for homebrew and report you, so you need an antiban eboot. If you have that homebrew on your system still when you change to OFW, you can potentially get banned if you play those games without an antiban eboot even though your system is no longer modded. So you should either press Triangle on each app and uninstall them or format your HDD - While there is no documented cases of it happening, if you want to remove every trace of CFW, you should install the OFW update twice to overwrite both ROS0 and ROS1 hashes in your NAND/NOR - Clearing app execution history and rebooting your console if you're not formatting your HDD
tips for noobs-is allways better to take the hdd out of the console and erase all the data first on a pc for safe keeping, even if you cant access the homebrew because you dont need it anymore RIGHT?we simply dont know if sony will check that internaly for logs inside the sistem when you sigh in on PSN and you will get ban for that.remember that ps3 sistem is from sony not yours to do what you want and then "pretending" its ok when you want.keep that in mind.also i apreciate you videos a lot.i dont trust anyone for this matter.if i have some doubt about ps3 i will allways check here first.thanks for you time.i also love my ps3.
how can i fix error 80023017. I tried the np environment and i tried other ways but i cant get it to work. Cant make accounts or sign in . can u please help me? It would mean alot.
@@carinet2795 NP Environment is the second option in your ps3's debug menu Edit the environment variable to connect to the network of your choice. Examples: ”np”: retail network. ”sp-int” : developers network. ”prod-qa” : production quality assurance network. Note : There are other networks than debugs can access but only QA flagged consoles can connect to them (mgmt, rc, etc”¦)
So much thanks dude. My mom bought herself a PS3 to play old games...and it was jailbroke. She couldn't update, and she will never ever use a home brew. This allowed me to fix it for her.
I just had this exact situation happen to me. Bought a PS3 and it had HEN on it. I am unable to go online (Which is what I want to use). Does this process allow you to go online and run games normally as well as update it to Sony's current version?
I went through this process and went to 4.89 OFW. Now whenever I try to install HEN CFW even in recovery mode, I get the error no applicable data was found. Not sure what to do at this point as looking online has not produced anything useful.
Thanks for this. I thought CFW on the PS3 would be cool at first, but unfortunately with PSN still around its not worth screwing something up that will get my account and console banned. Besides, TF2 on the Orange Box isn't able to load certain maps sometimes and stays stuck due to the CFW.
You know it's funny I was like "hmm, maybe I can upload my save files from my ps3 to cloud and download them from it to the PS4 playing PS Now." So I cross google "how to turn rebug ps3 cfw to ofw" and look who I found! Good job mate! Edit: Yes, i'm using modified saves. For science of course!
@@MrMario2011 of course it would but only if you have it already stored on the cloud via ps plus, however i'll update you on this comment as soon as I can!
@@MrMario2011 and an update yes it does, was playing Wizardry for the ps3, and realized i had to pick the right character for the save file to go active. Btw I did send you a personal email which I hope you get back in touch with me. For those interested: - boot up ps3 ofw - save edit it - reupload to online storage - boot up ps4 ofw - boot up ps3 game via psnow - go to xmb, take save from online, download to storage - .......... - PROFIT
I installed 4.87 CFW because I wanted to do some emulation on my PC using RPCS3, but most of my games don't run very well so I would prefer to have online access instead and do emulation later on when some games improve in performance on it. Very helpful tutorial! :)
I actually was thinking about doing this so I can play through some older PS3 games and unlock trophies, etc. Ever since getting my PS4 I've gotten super paranoid about even turning on my PS3 (running Rebug 4.84) for fear of getting banned. I think I am going to try this, but I think I need to format my HDD as well just to be safe.
@@lanjiojilake8442 I ended up buying a used PS3 Slim. Installed new HDD into it and formatted and latest updates. I am now using that to play all my old games to unlock trophies legit under my account. So I am keeping my modded one to play other games and just have fun but not care about trophies or on-line.
If i gain some trophies, can i sync them to my account without activating Hen? Just normal sign in and sync then going offline. Please let me know guys thank you 😊
Would like to know the same thing but i think he said in a response to mines asked already that there's a chance to get your account banned if you do....so i'm scared to try it.
Hey man, awesome guide. I have a cfw ps3 and i want to use my ps4 account to earn trophies on my ps3. Will returning to ofw eliminate the ban risk or is there still a risk? Cuz I don’t wanna risk it even if it’s 0.00,1% chance.
@@Tobbyfeet I did so and so far no bans. However, I really REALLY did follow his advice, like installing twice and all that. HDD is still the same, but I made sure to remove all cfw programs and do triangle + r2 to remove syscalls, before unjailbreaking.
I had the same issue when I tried it with a usb 3.0 stick. When I did it with a 2.0 stick it worked. I can't say if that really is it, but it worked for me.
Awesome guide, thank you! I've been wanting to roll back to official fw for a while now, this makes it so easy! Custom fw again when PS3 comes to EOL, but before that I want to get rid of my test soft mod reminders n.n;
try a different flash-drive, some drives are hit or miss for some reason some use more power then others also depends how close to the specs of the USB standards are some are.... questionable.
I would also recommend going to System Settings after installing OFW and formatting the system. This will reset flash1, flash2 and the hard drive, wiping any remaining traces of CFW/HEN.
just curious but can't you just go to system settings and revert your system back to factory settings? Also could you provide OFW in the description please, as I don't have one
I have a question...can you play some games and gain trophies on HEN, then after a while revert to OFW, and sync your trophies from games on HEN, but now on OFW? Is it safe, did anyone tried?
Thank you, Mario, your videos helped me a lot so far! I'm new to consoles, and I have an PS3 super slim now. I just can't play any games on it, hfw, ps3hen, multiman and everything was on point, but the magic didn't happen. Decided to go back to ofw and restore the system.. hopefullyI can play some games on it this time:)
Lucas the Bowser Thanks for the kind answer. I’ll reset my ps3 again just in case, then I will play with a fake account just to make sure. Ya know, I got 7 years of paid PSPLUS subscriptions, plus tons of games I purchased. It would be a true pity if I get banned lol.
@@bigmoviegamer1037 Well, I didn't reset my ps3 again, and played lots of matches on Black Ops 1 with a fake account. No ban yet. This was 1 month ago, so still nothing. My guess is that they completely left the support, and we can basically do whatever we want haha.
Gordon Ale ah ok, im not interested in online play so I should be fine, I just reinstalled OFW twice and formatted a couple of times. So hopefully I should be fine.
so helpful thank you, i was really happy when i managed to jailbreak it, but after i did i couldn't find any use for it, and wanted to update to a firmware in which i actually could log in, and i couldn't find anything online to update the CFW, maybe i didn't search enough, but thank you, a really helpful tutorial for unjailbreaking without having to format my HDD
I had the same issue with a 32GB USB Thumb drive which works fine on my PC, even reformatted it twice. Then I found an old 1GB Thumb drive and my PS3 recognized the official firmware on it. So try another thumb drive if you have one.
I just bought a ps3 recently as of 4/25/2022. I dont know what hen is, I want hen removed off my system. im in the U.S, any help? ive tried following your links and the PS link does not let me download the update firmware. I just want to revert the system back to its stock state.
Okay this is weird, I bought a new USB that was FAT32 and MBR, ended up backing up ALL my data and restoring my entire system. The PS3 read the file in the update menu on the home screen but not in recovery mode. I don't know what to do anymore
Do i lose my game update files or my savefiles or my programms or my games in PS3ISO or GAMES i only need a new install becouse of a custem wave i want to remove
To anyone who asks, I can confirm that any trophies you earn during on CFW, when you revert back to OFW you can sign in to PSN and sync your trophies without any issue. I just did it with my account using PS3HEN as CFW. Just to be sure that nothing won't go wrong, do the update from the recovery mode as suggested in the video. Also, you don't lose any game data from the update. Cheers!!!👍
So if you have CFW on your ps3, then installed let's say Call of Duty World at War to your Internal HDD, 100% the trophies for it (without linking PSN). Then reverted back to OFW and logging in to your PSN account, the trophies will sync to your account?
@@wrathful_spartan what about games that you don't physically own? Like ripping files from a website and playing the game on the ps3. Would you get banned?
@@Dr.Lemmy_C_Yabum Technically yes, but Sony has abandoned ps3 for years. In my case, i installed OFW, logged in to my profile, synced trophies, logged out and then I format my disk just to be sure that there is no homebrew files left. I have some physical games I want to play and I don't want to risk to get banned.
@@wrathful_spartan What if you installed a mod using PS3 Hen and stuff on a certain game, but when you revert back it obviously removes the mod from said game. Will the data from the game still be there, or is it all lost too when the mod from he game goes away (For context, the game data was created with and during the mod, and has been altered from it)
I did everything exactly like you did and It just doesn't work for me. I formated my USB Stick like 5 times already and have the Update 4.88 on it but whenever i try to put it on my 4.86 HEN PS3 it always says, there's no Update on my USB Stick. Any way to fix this? I'm using an original ps3 controller and cable.
i want to delete (hen toolbox disabled) because my ps3 version is 4.90 i cant run hen toolbox and if i reinstall hen in my ps3 folder games will get deleted and pls rply as soon as possible..... 😭😭😭😭
Thanks for the tutorial, it was really useful! I bought a second hand ps3 recently but it was jailbroken and didn’t allow me to update to the most recent system software which sucked because that means no new game trophies are synced to my psn account
I downloaded and updated using the internet option and everything went back to normal but I still have (app_home/PS3_GAME/) and another transparent nameless folder icon on my XMB, any way to get rid of these? I press triangle and there is no option to delete them or do anything else for that matter.
Downloaded a mod for a game because everyone is doing it as a trend, but it messed with the original version of the game that I wanted to go back to. This helped a lot
@Enphrocy Yes, I had to buy a hard drive adaptor, take out the PS3’s hard drive, and completely format it on my computer. From there, I had to manually install the latest PS3 updates on the drive.
Thanks - tried to follow the NTSF/webman tutorial you had on my HEN super slim, but after that multiman wouldn't launch, so I'm reinstalling everything. Just saw this vid as I'm restoring the OFW in recovery
hope this fixes my ps2 compatibilty issues on my backwards compatible ps3 edit: DAMIT SONY U LET ME USE MY AFTERMARKET CONTROLLERS IN THE XMB BUT NOT IN SAFE MODE?!?!?!
everytime i go to update the ps3 via the usb in recovery mode it always says no applicable update data was found, i've tried every conceivable method and it nothing is working
Figures there would be a video on it from MrMario when I was looking everywhere. I ended up have to restore my ps3 hdd and than update (via storage media worked but not internet as stated) didn't need to go in safe mode tho on hen. But yea they say to restore your hdd cuz they might be able to see the homebrew application files even if you delete em.
Something helpful to add, if your ps3 cant find the update file make sure you create a folder called "PS3" and into that folder create "UPDATE" folder. Here you must drop your update file.
NEED HELP URGENTLY!! It’s not working for me it says, when in recovery mode and choosing system update and pressing SELECT AND START at the same time it checks a few seconds but then it only says “no working update found” and I exactly followed your steps. Please help me.
Thanks so much! My younger brother gave me his PS3 he had modded but I wanted to get trophies for PS3 games on my main PSN account but didn't wanna risk getting a ban so this was extremely helpful!
@prime787tame wdym? Like psn games I already owned or games from the mod client? Cause without the client unless I own the games I can't play any downloaded via that client
Few days ago i tried to remove cfw on my hand without any guides, and i successfully reverted to OFW using the system update in XMB menu. I dont know why i could do it but its very easy. And im back on Rebug again cuz i still want to see what exactly can my PS3 do, i want to try out linux on it. And keep great work, your videos are amazing!
Hello i have a question, i want to do the same thing as yours to cfw ps3, is it safe? Should i erase all cfw data and files on ps3? Which files should i delete?
I Have an odd question: i did the Jailbreak onto another hdd and pulled out the original one. If i put the old hdd in the System is my System going to boot and being back to Stock?
Hi there, thanks so much for the video. I used the ps3hen guide to get hen installed, and had no major issues [except random console lockups]. I have reverted to stock firmware, since i only needed the hen for backing up my games for emulation use, but now my games will not start on the official firmware, with error code 80029517. Any idea how to fix this please?
Question, Mrmario, if your PS3 is already modded with Hen, can you just update to Rebug? Or does that come with a risk of bricking your PS3? That's all I want to do, but figured resetting everything to stock would be safer.
@@ManLover3 Im not sure the exact step to be safe, but i did full format > install update > quick format > install update again and its totally safe to log in now until now i have been getting trophies for my account
Now, even when you unjailbreak the PS3, does it let you use your PSN Account? When I did this once via Internet Update, I wasn't allowed to log into my account and therefore, not be able to use PS Store.
Idk why but even in recovery mode it just says no applicable data. I thought maybe it just wasnt reading my flash drive so I tried doing the update the normal way and it read my usb but of course it gave me an error. I have everything typed out exactly how its suppose to be in the files and the flash drive is formatted to fat32. I have no idea whats wrong.
That I'm doing this cause I'm tired of having to keep up with PSNhen on the to allow me sign into a PSN account to allow my PSP to download and get my digital game
I followed every single step using the right file from sony website version of 4.86 but getting below error message in safe mode. 'No applicable update data was found. Connect storage media that contains update data of version 4.85 or later, and then press the START ans SELECT buttons at he same time.'
For everyone having the problem where you click on the ps3 update and it won’t download the fix is to just use another app it didn’t work on chrome and then i used microsoft edge and it downloaded
I'm trying to unmodify my PS3 to play online again. I'm just so nervous that when I try to go online again after installing OFW, I'll get banned because of some leftover flash modules being modified.
@@anthonyyvalle you mean the factory reset in the settings menu? Is that even enough? I’ve already installed the latest firmware 4 times over. And already factory reset it afterwards.
@@inthere2it that’s what I did, I installed OFW 4.88, “Restore PS3” and everything has been fine so far. You could format it as well to be extra safe but I’m not sure it’s necessary
@@anthonyyvalle I’ve done all of that already. I’m just terrified that I would get banned and lose a decade of progress across all PS systems and thousands of dollars
You will still get banned when you using a public IDPS (ConsoleID) and when the system gets banned, you're done, have to reinstall CFW to change the console id
Just sold mine 😂😂 and frogot it was jailbreak i asked the person if they wanted stock or jailbreak i sold it for 200 excellent condition 500GB deadpool and other marvel games with it 😅
The only really reason I want to do this is so I can sign into psn safely so I can sync my trophies but will I still have my roms on my hard drive after I reinstall another custom firmware after Update: I saw at the end of the video you still had your mod tools like retroarch and webman so I assume you still have ur roms
