How to Unlock Suitcase With Combination + How To Change Lock Number

Well that was incredibly satisfying, thanks for posting this! I’ve had this nice Halliburton Zero kicking around for years. Took the hinge apart and was ready to remove the lock from the back, but that would have required a hole in the lining which I wasn’t too keen on. Glad I decided to do one last search! For anyone’s reference, on an early ‘90s Zero, find the sweet spot as described in the video, then advance the digits by five (180 degrees essentially) and Bob’s your uncle

Your method saved me! The other methods involved a poorly made lock where the wheel is visible, but yours worked without needing to see the wheel!

Hi Greg: You are the man! I was so damned frustrated with being unable to open my 30 year old briefcase after attempting to simply change the combination from xxx to a simple 000... hah, simple eh? Anyway, this guy from North Carolina was SOOO pleased when your method worked the first time. I noticed a couple of things that helped me work through this that I'd like to share. I used a 3" x 5" file box card which was just slim enough to fit in the tumbler slot, but sturdy enough that I only needed two corners to get the job done. The curved surface you described was easy to feel, and when the card corner hit the correct number "slot" the card tip simply fell in. The correct right side latch tumbler notch was to the right of the roller number. I flipped the left side latch mechanism over in my mind, and sure enough the left side latch tumbler slot was to the left of the roller number. Otherwise the incorrect side of the respective tumbler number slot was smooth for every number, so you can simply know you were on the wrong side of the tumbler slot. So simple, so easy... I feel a bit like a criminal, but in my own house? Excellent post, my friend... I owe ya a beer or two, mate!

holy shit thank you!!! i just got a locked echolac suitcase at a thrift shop for $1 and told my wife i knew i could "pick it". i felt for the divots - there were small divots on a few different numbers, but much deeper divots only once per wheel. facing the divots towards the front was no good, but rotating them all down by 5 numbers WORKED! 802 with the divots forward became 357 with the divots shifted 5 clicks until they faced inwards. thank you thank you thank you

OMG! I have a notebook with the same sort of locking code. I’d forgotten what the code was, knowing it contained all my work stuff and I’m due to go back in Feb. ALL DAY I’ve been Googling these poxy notebooks and haven’t even found a bean and THHEENN I came across your video, the object was the same, lock very similar and so I gave it a go… it’s now unlocked and I can’t thank you enough, I started this at 10am this morning and it’s now 11.39PM 😮😮😮 I was that excited I made a high pitched squeal, causing one of my dogs to wake up startled and he passed wind quite loudly🤣🤣🤣 What a night! But thank you again, it’s been a headache. I’m going to have nightmares about giant notebooks chasing me down the street! 🤣🤣🤣

Unbelievable. It worked. I had an old bag but used a visiting card on it anyway. I got the 3 slots but it didn't open. So kept moving the numbers up and the third or fourth round it clicked open. Thank you so much.

Sometimes the flat spot with the 'Divot' is on the bottom. In these cases, such as mine was, you just add five digits to all of them which puts the flat spot with the 'divot' on the bottom.

Ripper advice! Used a skinny wire instead of paper, then got a torch and magnifying glass and just looked instead. 'Round and Flat' is right (Flat with a hole). Had to 'inverse the number by adding 5 to all three digits (made the flat bit face inwards instead of towards me). Cracked it open and after all these years, found out what was actually in the suitcase!! (RONCATO brand).

Listen I never comment on anything ever even if it works but this was so easy and quick it honestly blew my mind thank you very much
