I own a X4 power flash tuner. My truck was recently destroyed and I never got the chance to unmarry it from my truck. I just purchased almost the same truck just a year newer. How can I unmarry my tuner now without having to send it back and pay the ridiculous $150 fee. I know somebody has to have a hack for this by now. Thanks in advance
I ordered one of these off ebay that was supposed to be unlocked but wasn't. Connect it to my truck and it would display "vehicle mismatch". I split it open, pulled the sd card, stuck it in my PC and re-formatted it. At that point, the updater didn't like it but I plugged it into my truck and it worked fine. I was able to make multiple tire size adjustments, to best calibrate the speedometer to my GPS.
you got lucky, it would have disabled it if the software finally detected it. It's really not worth messing with the card anymore since their software will disable it. Just get a refund from the ebay seller instead.
M JONES IS CORRECT! Everyone, please don't buy a VIN locked Hypertech Max Energy and expect that you can unlock it based on this guy's video. You can't reset it or update the firmware on it when it is vin locked. A message will pop up from the software saying that the tuner is Programmed and it will say restore vehicle back to stock tuning before attempting the update. IT DOES NOT WORK!!!
There was an SD Card inside. Are you saying to Format it? The computer doesn't recognize anything on it, and that is all my computer wants to do to it is format.
I bought one from Hypertech like 10 years ago put it on a truck I had at the time, before selling the truck I unprogrammed it showed that it worked me sold the truck. A few later bought another one went to install program and it still showed the first trucks vin so it must’ve not taken off like it was suppose too. Been trying to figure this out for years. I know where the other truck is but the owner told me that hey had to put a new computer in it. I’ve called Hypertech and they say buy another tuner. Because it’s so old. And my software disc was misplaced somewhere along the way. So I guess ecm flash with original vin # is my way out.
It's possible you unplugged it from your old truck before it was completely done setting it back to stock, and therefore still locked to it. Surprised Hypertech wouldn't unlock it (for the $200 fee). What model number is it?
32000HYP I know it didn’t come unplugged because I remember it saying reset to factory settings completed or something to that effect. Btw Found my disc for it though was in box with the original instructions, connection wires, receipt from purchase, stickers and so on. Called Hypertech again today and talked to someone else n they told me that sometimes it unmarried but shows it didn’t In programmer until you download the newest software version update. Told to me to go website download newest update, install into programmer and it should erase or flash programmer, unlocking it. If it doesn’t call them back. They still never mentioned the unlocking it for $200 which I would’ve paid back when this first happened. I gave $365 for it new lol I’ve had the new truck for over two years and would’ve used it asap if it was unlocked. Now to find a Computer, With windows to download the newest update. I’m also assuming that was the problem this person had encountered, assuming it works when I do get to try it on mine.
Just download the latest software from the Hypertech website - the CD version is outdated at this point. If it won't let you update it (if it says it's Programmed), goto the Tools menu and select Get Device Status Info and see what it says on the Status line.
this video should be taken down, i bought a 200$ tuner on ebay based on this video and now im all i have is a junk tuner. once the tuner is paires the oem tune replaces the "hot tune" and cannot be paires without a reset from hyper tech, DO NOT BUY A EBAY TUNER AS THE VIDEO STATES, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO UNLOCK IT
Not sure why it worked for me. I'm an IT guys so I mess with this sort of stuff all day long. When you flash update the device it erases everything on the programmer. That's why they want you to backup the stock tune.
Sorry it doesn't work that way bud. The Hypertech software does not allow you to update the firmware if it is still vin locked. This video is a sham and should be taken down like the previous guy said!
LeeMichael, sorry to hear that. First you should try to fight with Ebay or Paypal to get your money back. Second, you can always resell it on ebay, some people buy them to try to hack them, they usually sell for around $20 or $30 on there when vin locked.
I did it. But not like this. Opened it up. Removed the 2gb sd card and reformatted it on my PC, deleting anything on it. Put it back in. Plugged it in and updated it using the program. I was able to program both mine and my wife's jeep this way. Each car having it's own sd card so we can go back to stock if we want.
@@MDM1204 hell yeah. Same for me. I thought I ruined it the first time. But unplugged it and plugged it back in and it was good to go. Glad to see my trick wasnt a fluke!
Just like a CMOS chip on a PC mother for the BIOS. If you remove the battery or the battery dies, the information stored in the BIOS is still in memory. There is a jumper that you jump which basically shorts the static energy for the memory in the CMOS chip. At that point the memory is erased and back to factory settings. Chances are the static chip on the Hypertech stores the firmware and settings on the same chip. If you were to find the correct legs of the chip to short to ground, it would brick the device as it would erase the program as well as the settings. You would need reload the firmware but if the device does not even boot up now, it won’t accept the installation of firmware.
@@mikelutz3838I wouldn’t be able to tell you with out seeing the board. Although, if you ground a wire and touch every pin on every chip on the board, you will eventually drain the stored information. But again, this could erase updated firmware as well that is required and could brick the device.
Do you have a link for the 42003 software by chance? I cant locate my disk and it was deleted by Windows 10 for some reason. I have the file location but its empty, its been almost a year since I checked for updates and didnt even know it was missing. Thanks
The video is bullshit but if you open up the tuner up and pull out the micro Sd card and reformate it on a computer, then put the Sd card back in its slot and put the tuner back together, then plug the tuner into the vehicle it will ask for a current update, then you go back to the hypertech update software like the one in the video you can update all the software's and have a fresh tuner. I thought it was a lost cause but it works fine for me definitely a risk but it works.
i agree with most of the people here u CANNOT UNLOCK the programmer if it has programmed a vehicle !!!!!!! u CANNOT UPDATE a programmer if it has programmed a vehicle either!!!!! i have one and i tried to u have to return the vehicle back to stock first!!!!!
Where does this video show anything on unmarrying the tuner? You never even show the status of the tuner. All this does is show how to update it. The TITLE "How to unmarry a Hypertech vin locked tuner programmer unlock" is a total lie. You unmarry the tuner by returning the vehicle to stock. This is shit.. When you power up the tuner, will show the current VIN across the screen if it is married to a car. THIS did not show any VIN when he powered it up, so it was already unlocked when he made this video, so there is no absolute proof this is how you unlock one of their tuners.
I'm not sure why people just don't take these things apart and ground the flash ship where the vin lock is stored. Take it apart and read the spec manual about the flash chip. My fix was easy but I would have taken it to the next level if it didn't.
Where would I find the spec manual, and which one is the flash chip? If you could post a video with this information it would help us out. I currently have this programmer disassembled and would appreciate the insight.
Maybe I will post a video on this sometime. I've done with devices that have corrupted flash. Flash chips are usually made by Intel, AMD samsung, etc. I would have to take mine apart to see. When you power on the device you can run a ground jumper to the solder pin on the flash chip. This will erase whatever is stored on the flash chip. You could also possibly JTAG it.
@@fintechrepairshop A JTAG programmer is way above most skills but yeah...however keep in mind the core code to operate this device is ALSO typically on the flash chip that the FPGA is booting from that also has space allocated to store VIN and versioning info in which case you'd brick the entire device if you erased the entire flash memory part.
Really wish I would have read the comments before jumping to conclusions and bought this used paperweight...screw off. You need to delete this already.
I cant stand videos where people yammer on about nonsence for 90 percent of the video!! we dont want to hear about your opinions political views or any other superfluous nonsence and stay on track for god sake dont go from explaining the device which by the way is what the video is supposed to be for to explaining what a usb cable is and how to use a computer ect ect. stay on point please ... the first 2 minutes of this was total useless gibber!!
