How to Unroot Android Smartphone or Tablet! [Universal Guide]

Here's how to unroot your Android smartphone or tablet, works on any Android device. This is a universal guide on how to remove the SU binaries and Superuser.apk file using ES File Explorer in root mode.
This will unroot and remove root completely off your Android smartphone or tablet. Should work on 99% of Android devices on market right now.
What it won't do is remove ClockworkMod recovery if you installed it. You will have to do that separately after unrooting.
But if you are on stock rooted ROM with no recoveries installed, this method will unroot your phone. You can do a factory reset after unrooting if you want to return your phone for warranty.
Files you need to remove:
/system/bin/su
/system/xbin/su
/system/app/Superuser.apk
That's it!

Thanks it unrooted OK! but still had the droi with exclamation mark. I did as instructed and tried the factory reset and bammm! It is now gone, awesome.

I unrooted with kingroot I went to settings and pressed uninstall it said are you sure you want to in root I clicked yes but when I went to update my tablet it still said this device has been modified in a anuthrrozied use smart switch and people say use smart switch on a computer to fully unroot plz help!!!! :(

I saw the file in my sd card now i don't know what i'm going to delete because there are files in xbin ,su ,su v1,su v2,and su v3. But when i opened the bin there is no su. In application supruserwas inside.

lg p925 just upgraded to Ginger Bread. I'm using es file explorer and followed your video upto lg p925 just updated to gingerbread, down loaded es file explorer and followed your video upto select root explorer. I box comes up saying sorry, test failed. This feature cannot run on this phone.

i did all of those and nothing happen. i uninstalled it but it says update and no unisntall. the problem is i am not rooted but supersu is here cause i rooted my tab back then and i factory data reset my tab so that.. please help me and give me steps please. and when i go to es and try to uninstall it on apk theres no super su there.. pls. i am sooo hopeless heeeelp.

it says: " sorry test failed. this feature cannot run on your phone" :( i'm really scared because the root doesn't let me connect to any WiFi network. When i root my phone i reset it and i erased all. And when i try to go to play store and login whit my gmail acc, it said it couldn't login, i tried a thousand times. I've tried to unroot mt phone with every single tutorial but i doesn't work. ..............

I done all this but can still install super user apps and then use root apps so it's still rooted, it just has no rooting abilities.

i used supersu to unroot, no problem but because it is now unrooted does that deny me OTA updates? when ever i try to update OTA it tells me that my system has been modified and can not update? how to fix.. i didnt install CWM or TWS i just rooted the phone so i could delete some bloatware i didnt want...

I need help! When i open the settings on ES File Explorer and click on root explorer, it tells me that su will give me a pop up but all my phone does is says feature can not be used on my phone. Your Funny, if your rooted with SuperSU, all you have to do in the settings is click UNROOT and the program will uninstall the SU binaries and the program itself, you did forget one thing, since your rooted and you have stock recovery the flash counter has changed so if you take it back to the store they can look and say "oh you modified the phone" even though root is gone. Google flash counter...

How do I know if I unrooted my phone? I basically followed directions but there wasnt a su file in bin only in xbin. I know u mentioned they dont have to be in all those locations but just trying to verify. I also went into titanium app and it still opens.

Prakhar Srivastava before unrooting, use titanium backup to uninstall superuser, then go ahead and delete this files.

So, i am trying like crazy and I cannot seem to be able to delete any of the su files, whenever i try to enable root explorer it does not enable it (i need to find it first, it does not come right in the settings' menu) and therefore i cannot enable the mounting either. I had to do this to an evo the other day. I ran the RUU before turning off the S-OFF flag so OTA updates wouldn't work. Had to reflash recovery, turn S-ON then run RUU again and ota's took fine.

If that didn't work then I think your only option would be to use a jig. I'm surprised triangle away did not work for you

Just did this method on my rooted Droid Razr 16GB version model XT912 V: 4.0.4.. verified with Root Checker app that root is removed.. States no root is installed, now updating to JB.
