Here's a great pallet upcycle idea for the garden! A very simple and quick garden project which can be undertaken with basic hand tools and minimal carpentry skills. Oh - and pretty much for free!!
These are great if you are short of room and just want a small, low maintenance garden, or even just to dress up a boring fence!

Also, I now have an Amazon storefront where I share links to assorted tools & equipment I use and recommend. As well, I'll be adding links for various supplies and products used in my videos as time goes on. Even if you purchase something on Amazon totally unrelated after entering through one of my links, it really helps support my channel with a small commission.. and it costs you nothing extra at all! 😊👍

This is the best vertical pallet planter design I've seen. Everyone else did theirs without putting bottoms on each row and I didn't think that was practical. U nailed it. I will be using your design. Thank u.

This is cool! I’d use an oil as a preservative on the timber though, like butchers block or something similar. My Pa made me a balcony herb planter out of my old pallets (I now realise, 20 years later). He knocked out the middle 3 boards I think and then cut it in half leaving a board on either side at either end. Didn’t he same thing with putting the bottom in and joined the halves together at the top of the side boards by using another piece the same as the bottom pieces leaving an open top to plant in which then sat over the backside by rail. It fit about 6 small pots total plus room for plants to climb over the long side pieces. Did that make sense to anyone? It was like one pallet cut in half with all but the end boards knocked out. Some days I wish I could draw! 😂

Burn em with a torch and that'll make em last longer the Japanese "Shou Sugi Ban" style.. makes em resistant to pests, rot, water and mould even fire proof weirdly enough as it changes the molecular structure of the wood... I do think a lining will keep the soil moist longer. The water doesn't seem in the wood (that much) and doesn't evaporate that easily. So less watering to do...

Nice design, however: 1. Never use pallet wood to grow something edible. Pallet wood is chemically treated. The chemicals can leach intk the soil, into the plant, and you can get cancer. 2. With good wood, like cedar, if there is not a bottom gap, drill drain holes. 3. With woods, like cedar, its always a good idea to have a moisture barrier betseen soil and wood. This slows down wood rot.
@TheUltimateRecycler
@TheUltimateRecycler 4 года назад
Thanks for your comment Robert, but your information is inaccurate with pallets. Yes, they used to be chemically treated (mostly with Methyl Bromide - stamped MB)... but just about all pallets these days are just heat treated (stamped HT). So no chemical issues anymore.
