Great video, with some excellent advice! 9:44, for a moment I thought the bug was on my screen. :) I've inherited an old barometer/thermometer/clock/hygrometer from my parents. I don't recall the clock ever running, so it probably last ran in the 1960s, but I would like to get it going. Maybe it just needs a good clean and lubrication, and I need to get a key made somewhere. Would a synthetic engine oil be better, maybe a 0W-30, which is quite thin for cold climates; or even a shaver oil?
Some, SOME smart chargers initially inject a current limited voltage into the battery. This test for a direct short which the charger then flashes an error, "bad battery", or just refuses to work. You can, if you have the patience, unplug and plug the charger in repeatedly (not the leads but the power cord to the charger) until the charger finally goes into charging mode. The short duration voltage injection when the charger "boots up" to test for a short will build up a surface voltage in the battery (if it isn't indeed bad) enough that the charger will finally start charging. After unplugging the charger, wait until all indicator lights go out before plugging it back in. There is a large capacitor keeping the "smart" circuitry powered up for a few seconds after the power cord is removed. This circuitry must power down for it to "re-boot". It may take doing this half a dozen or so times before the charger finally kicks in.

Yeah i've got a Toshiba cd player (they were one of the inventors of cd) and its a little bit bigger than the marantz, and yeah talk bout heavy. They made em solid,repairable and to last back then.
Ah Chris I hope it sells soon or your curiosity means we are going to see this unit again! In any case this type of troubleshooting effort is never wasted. It's just more experience in diagnosis and technique. Sometimes the laser power can be adjusted as it may dim over time but more likely perhaps is the laser has failed. Of course your usual snooping for bad capacitors and solder joints is top notch and often yields results. On to the next! Exciting progress in the emergency storage shed!
hi,i don't think you adjusted the power to the lazer,that probably why its not reading the disc,they get weak with age...there is alot of videos to show how to do it....i just fixed my multi cd which stopped working years ago,so then i had to play tapes and eventually that stopped working....now it in bits on kitchen table,but ive fixed both cd and tape now....😃
The only other thing you could check, is a region free disk, or just a couple more discs to rule out the long shot of dye type incompatibility, not that those CDs looked like silver CDRs.
Well, that must have been frustrating Chris, but realistically you can't expect to have success every time ! It is amazing how much they've slimmed down CD/DVD players over the years, I've still got my Denon CD player from the mid eighties, still going strong and built like a tank so pretty heavy !
Haven't finished watching yet, but the old philosophy looks to be in play: when in doubt, pull it apart. It didn't work before so you can't end up worse off. I look forward to see what happens, although the video title might have given it away.
Victa used to stand for quality. Now Briggs and stratton put cheap Chinese shit on them, I wouldn't buying a new mower my 20 years old Briggs and stratton quantum 625 will last me many years.

What daunting task to disassemble a VCR.. Thank you! I finally watched this one, cause I have two old VCRs and wanted to check them. One seems completely dead, but the other one works beautifully. So we enjoyed a few movie nights watching old tapes. Did not realize how much I missed the sounds and workings of VHS. What a bliss!
My tv has backlight issues, and after pulling it apart to see the serial number, I noticed cracks on the outter screen and images are no longer showing when using the flaslight. Would you recommend i still purchase the back light, or is the crack an indication that there might be further damages?
They are substantially heavier than modern printers for sure Kayle! But if you take off $4 for the switches, it's only $6 worth of scrap - and that's AU$ too, so not that lucrative!
The LaserJet III and IIIp were some of the greatest printers of all time. I was an HP service Tech for 10 years and I routinely serviced these with page counts in the millions. There was a LaserJet III that one of my clients had that had over 6 MILLION pages total page count. I personally installed 24 maintenance kits over about 6-8 years (that particular printer which was set to a 250,000 page service interval.) which equates to over 6million pages ... It was still running strong when I left the business. The LJ 8100 was also great.... Multi Million page counts were common.
Five white spots for about a year. Finally summoned up the courage to follow your instructions. Took a couple of hours. I had a couple of extra connecters that needed detaching, but apart from that it was pretty much as you showed. No clips broken! You do have to be very careful when turning the screen over after removing the outer bezel (and when turning the screen over to put the bezel back) as the glass is loose at this point and can slip. I checked the lenses and found one other that was loose so fixed that one as well. Put it all back together and with great trepidation turned it on..... Perfect! Thank you so much. Very proud of myself 🙂
Seems like we have many "matches" in our sheds Ian! Don't worry - your money was well spent as they make excellent "blocks" for stacking things to the roof line! 😉🤣🤣
I have the same leaf blower, however although mine idles well, it bogs down when I apply throttle. I dis everything you did, and it's still the same. I was wondering if there is a spark arrestor on these machines ? If so, where is it, as I'd like to clean it if dirty. Thanks for the informative video. 👍
They often have a spark arrestor screen on the muffler Ray and that can carbon up - although that's more common with 2 strokes. It's normally on the muffler outlet. The symptoms sound like the fuel/air mixture is wrong. Does it still do it with the air filter removed? It's either running too rich, or too lean.
One time my mom had an old piano upright needed to be moved out of the dining room. I had to talk her into it she said where am I gonna put my pictures as I started to roll it out the door just hit me. I started taking part and I had to cut some pieces it made the most beautiful man over a fireplace you ever seen Black screws attached to the wall. It was the old house it had plaster stuff. There was wood anywhere you put screw thinking. I was thinking that you could build the shape of it on a jig and put it anywhere on the wall. 21:30
