Mind blown!! Thank you so soooopo much for this! I love so much my bag and was so sad thinking I couldn't recycle but knowing that throwing it away was not an option either!!! This is amazing! Thank you thank you thank you!!
Thank you so much! I almost gave away my favorite skirt because a tiny band at the top was faux leather and falling off in embarrassing chunks. In less than 2 hours, I got my skirt back! Plus, I enjoyed listening to an audiobook at the same time.
My dad bought me a handbag and its really pretty, haven't used it yet but saw the leather peeling and the material under is really pretty gray actually, thank you for these tips, intro is really great 🤍
I had a couch 2 years ago and the leather on the Seats where too worn. So before I took it to the landfill I salvaged the leather off the back and sides. I ended up using the leather to rehupolster my dining room chairs. A 8 foot by 4 foot piece of leather would have cost me a fortune. It was a super great idea.
I'm going through the same thing with several pairs of Faux Leather boots. I've peeled most of the already peeling pleather off & tried a variety of Leather fillers & Acrylic paint. Angelus Acrylic leather & fabric shoe paint works well after the fake stuff is all off. But the filler is just too thick, It only works on very small cracks. But leaving it as just fabric is a wonderful idea! I have a pair I'm going to let peeling off as I wear them, then keep them without the pleather. I might apply some small rinestones or fabrics. So many possibilities ❤
Thank you for the video Layana! I had a strange feeling when someone told me that H&M was accepting textiles and they would recycle them. I called the 1 800 number and asked the Rep if they accepted clothing from other brands, yes. If they accept torn items, yes. If they accept clothing with dazzles, feathers or beads (glued on) -- you know what I mean those ugly clothes that some brands make with glitter, and feathers, and other stuff? She said NO. The item has to be simple and clean. As for the short tutorial, I love it! I will use your tips to save two of my fav purses. Take good care Layana!
Worth watching coz I have a old leather purse which lost its outer skin I am thinking of throwing it out but your videos saved me from that Definitely try this Thanku so much for sharing such videos 👍👍👍
Love the concept. Not sure I am ready to peel the Balangica Motocross Bag I am trying to repair. I might use a decorative patch first. Would certainly consider for a re-purpose/ re-do on a cheaper bag. We waste too much. Anyone can make something new but it takes a really creative mind to bring something back to life ❤.
Great video 👍 I was looking for a good solution to some peeling shoulder & laptop bags that I'd parked in my 'to-be-fixed' pile, and this is perfect! I'm part-way through my first one & it has a lovely grey suede-type fabric underneath.. and the coating is coming off remarkably easy. Thanks! I hope viewers listen to your message about upcycling & the menace of fast fashion... I'm a firm believer that you get what you pay for, and the rags they make out of those downcycled H&M, etc clothes are as cheap & nasty as the original outfits because synthetic fabrics make awful rags. Those 'recycling' campaigns are a marketing ploy to make customers feel better about fast fashion, nothing more... and as they continue to sell clothing that they _know_ they won't accept for 'recycling' because they can't repurpose them (with plastic beads, sequins, vinyl, etc) it's a pretty hollow sentiment.
Famous Footwear is pretty bad too. I had bought a pair of $100.00 boots from them & all the Pleather is peeling off 😥 They lied & told me it was "real" Leather. I found 2 more pairs of those Nickles boots online & they too are peeling. So I tried a bunch of leather fillers & Acrylic paint. Never thought to just leave the fabric as is, except maybe adding a sealant to protect them. Anyway I agree & can't stand these Clothing stores that take advantage of us & destroy the environment
i don’t know what’s more beautiful: her face or her accent. i’m not even a minute into the video & i’m already overwhelmed by both. sheesh! #trytofocusonthecontent
I have a faux Miche bag base that’s peeling. I’m sick over it because I spent so much money on it and the shell faces. Now I know what to do. Thank you.
My persian bag was peeling too so what I did was hand wash it to remove the leather and some glue it might have. It was a beautiful khaki brown. After washing and drying, you'd think I bought it recently not years ago.
Wow wow wow, I have a beautiful daughter gave for my mother's day, but it was just there waiting to be use because I thought it was too fancy, but then it started to striped and she was upset so when I found this video I smiled to myself I am happy now thank you
I scraped off the entire surface of an old faux leather purse. The faux leather turned out to be dusty and crumbly, so it was a messy job. I needed some newspapers and one of those cheap disposable dust masks.
Thank you the faux leather on my heels are chipping away and I’m so annoyed, I want to fix it before it gets worse but mum says that nobody will fix the leather just get rid of it but I was at least hoping they could replace it with actual leather in the same design
I've done this with several old bags and I'm looking for inspiration for what to do after this step. I had one that was tan so I used fabric dye on the cleaned off fabric.
Hello, does it look nice without all the faux leather? My jacket is damaged as I put it in the washing machine but I don't want to throw it away in the bin 😔
But if you still want that leather look you can buy at Micheals Tulip fabric paint dimensional buy whatever color and smooth out the liquid it will dry like leather.
I swear if she can actually help me if this is real, she will be the queen of my world. I can’t even tell you please please let this work let this be real let this be easily done by someone like me.❤
Hello, just wanted to ask if this method also worked with vegan faux leather? I have a purse that is still in good condition but it is peeling and I have been meaning to find a way to fix it.
All faux leather is vegan because it's not real leather. I have never heard of any specialty 'vegan' faux leather. If it's peeling like the one in the video, it's the same cheap material. There are in fact other leather alternatives like recycled leather, it's a compound of leather scraps and that looks a little like cork. But it's not vegan obviously. Then there is snap pap, it's a paper material made to look similar to leather, can be used to sewing and label making and is Maschine washable like any other fabric too. But those won't peel off too because it's not made of layers but rather one solid material. Mostly anything you can buy in stores that claims to be "vegan" leather is just plain old plastic faux leather, that super bad for the environment. Probably just as much as real leather...
Wow I'm really really impressed with this idea..although it does take some patience, it's worth it for this bag I have to take the time. And thanks so much for the info on recycling clothes. It's usually made out to sound better than it really is. Great video!!
A few days back I had peeled my handbag completely (which had peeled half on its own) but underneath the leather looks very uneven toned. It does not look good. What should I do ?
So the video starts at 2:53. And the part you gonna skip, she gonna talk about stuff you already know or you probably don't need to know. Anyways, thumbs up for the effort 🔥
This is what I try to do with my old stuff but after owning a REAL leather bag I realized PU leather is a complete waste of money. You’re paying anywhere from $20 (cheap fast fashion) to purses and bags sold as “vegan leather” for over $100 sometimes way more. If you use these bags regularly then it’ll last you a year, maybe year and a half tops and next thing you know you’re keeping an eye out for a new one because you’re rocking a tattered bag. After that realization I bought only real leather and if you take the most basic care of it, it’ll last your whole life. I had friends or even my mother I’d shop with and they wanted help picking out a $50 range purse, I’d always suggest neither because you don’t have to pay a lot for a nice leather bag you could find a similar one for $200. They say but it’s $200! Then I point out, but how many bags have you bought in the past decade and how much have you spent on them overall? It’s a money saving investment, really.
This video is very good! I loved the beginning too! VERY INFORMATIVE! Everyone should know!! I’m going to try this tip to recycle my bag! Thank you!! 😊💕💪🏽 @LorrieLean
This is not upcycling. You may have made it look less bad but now you exposed the inner fabric, eliminating the point behind faux leather in the first place. Honestly I was hoping there'd be something about replacing the lost material at least.
