Hi Paul, its Wayne from Affordable Mobile TV Repair in Va Beach. Thanks for your continuing service to the RU-vid community for the last 10 years. I would like to add a few tips that your readers may find helpful when dealing with Sony F/W updates. Only use 2-8gb memory sticks. Anything larger may cause the loading process to time out. Also the quality of the stick matters. Use only sticks like Samsung, Sandisk Verbatim, Kingston etc.. and we down lode at lease 2 different sticks (2, 4,8gb) per tv repair update. And be very patient. It can take up to 3-4 try's before Sony's finicky F/W loads and up to 8 hours to have a successful down load. We have repaired hundreds of Sony sets over the last several years and I'm not a big fan of Sony's overall S/W design they use in their XBR series of sets. Their non XBR series sets are usually plug and play when replacing the main board. I am in the process of updating my website to add a section of tech tips that we have experienced over the last several years for all manufactures that we have repaired. Hey Paul, or Wayne. Does this update method work if the TV is stuck in a boot loop? I have a KDL65W850C stuck in a boot loop and am trying to reinstall firmware with no luck.

@@ryanw9051 I'm in the same boat. Already tried the "pushing the power and volume down buttons til the led light at the bottom turns green, then letting go" reset. My light turns green, but then my TV goes back to the reboot loop. No reset screen comes on.

Hello Sir! Love your videos! Question: Sony XBR-65X850C - apparently Firmware Update failed before it was completed. Now the TV tries to boot up, displays the four Android icons, and in less than 15-20 seconds shuts down and reboots, REPEAT. We have tried the “Power Off > Hold Power Button for 15 - 20 seconds reset. Did not change behavior. Btw, no status light blinking. I haven’t been able to find a repair shop yet. Should I replace the board with the USB and HDMI ports?

Thanks for the clear instructions. I couldn't get my TV to install the firmware from USB. The instructions from Sony don't say that you need to place the file itself into the root folder and don't tell you to name the drive Sony Update. After I did both, the firmware finally updated. Thanks man!

I put the whole folder in as well at first instead of just the .pkg file. Sony should have been more clear about that.

If I download the .bin file to USB only (without the Folder) nothing happens at all. If I download the Folder and insert USB TV says "Update cannot be done using this USB"

@Slas did u figure it out I have the same issue. I extracted the files and there is no single file like the video shows. TV won't recognize files.

Hi two important points that I didn't catch onto at first. 1. Your download may not be a zip or compresses file. Mine was .p09 Not an archive so i just copied that. 2. VERY IMPORTANT. My tv has 2 usb ports. Only one will work for update. I spend hours in reboot loop until I put in other usb port and it worked immediately.

Good info, I'm not sure if its necessary to name the USB drive "sony update" or not , also not all firmware updates are over 1GB, this TV I'm doing model KD-70X690E is way less than 1GB

thanks for your vidio. i have a problem. i do all the things that you mention to update my bravia tv with usb drive but my tv did not go to update and i thing it cant recognize the files. because as i attach the usb the screen the chose mass storage comes up. the usb format is fat32 and it is 8gb. what's the problem u think?

It does not work on my Sony KDL55HX800. .bin(not .pkg) . If I root the file only to USB (without the Folder) nothing happens at all. If I download the Folder with the .bin File and TV says "Update cannot be done using this USB"

Hey Paul.. thanks so much for your vids, i have found so much very useful information! i have been searching for weeks now for an answer to a Bravia problem.. maybe you or a viewer could help? my KLD48w700c bravia TV has one very bright LED strip, with a visible white band on that side of the screen. that side gets hot pretty quickly also. though i am not sure if that side is too bright or the other 3 sides are too dim.. i have changed the psu but the problem persists.. any help would be appreciated!

Great Video - thanks ! Question: I am able to updates directly from my 75Z9D "Update Software" menu selection, but no matter what I do, they won't actually burn to firmware after powering off then back on as directed in the instructions. I've tried unplugging and holding the power button down for 30 sec and everything else I can think of. Do you know of a trick to force the firmware to update after it's been successfully downloaded ? I ended up resorting to this USB load procedure in the end. Thanks !

Question If my tv won’t start and is stuck with a booting circle “ and just restarts with the circle every 20-30 seconds. Would the usb update maybe be accessible at that point and maybe solve my Issue?

@Tampatec many thanks for providing such informational videos, unfortunately my Sony Bravia 55” is stuck in a reboot loop in welcome screen. Reboot loop persists even after Factory data reset. Do you have a video that helps to update firmware for tv stuck in reboot loop? Reboot started suddenly when I tried to Chromecast a you tube video, though I never faced this problem while Chromecasting from you tube before The tv doesn’t provide any red blinks, my daughter who is trying to figure this out says it isn’t a hardware issue but a software one. Like somehow the tv still thinks it’s trying to connect to Chromecast even after factory reset Any advice on this? Happy to provide a video link of the issue

Question - if you swap new mainboard then do you get any image or black screen until firmware update ? Because i did swap on sony xbr-65a8f but is black screen now the TV start working but only amber lights is white. Thanks ! There is not any video to show if you swap the board will get immediately image on the screen and from where i got the board they told me i MUST upgrade the firmware.

Hi tampa love your vids. I have a sony xbr-55x900e and it has a the famous green and pink stripes. Has sound and I can hear functions like volume turn up and down, Setup sound music and the remote still works. backlights look good. The tv is out of warranty. Any repair advice?

Thanks! With the info you gave me, the top 3 possible issues could be #1 bad tcon board, #2 bad video/main board #3 bad lcd panel or buffer boards attached to panel. Get tv boards at shopjimmy.com or electropartsonline.com

I have just seen this TV that will not hold digital terrestrial channels after scanning in auto tune. It shows one channel but when you go to the TV Guide it says no channels are in memory and goes to the tuning menu. After tuning I go back and it returns to the No Channels in memory screen and offers to tune again. Any Ideas? Dose it have a 3V cell inside like on a mother board for backup? It is setup for Netflix so it seems to operate that part.

Hey Tampa Tec - I suspect you aren't in Tampa right now with the Hurricane and all... I have a Sony KDL-50 W800B and just replaced the main board, the LED is flashing green amber, but the screen doesn't light. Sony doesn't support that TV any longer with firmware. I Found a Bravia 55ex710 and it looked to good to leave lol. i diagnosed it and changed the main board. and Now the optical light is on. no more red blinking lights, but now their green and orange. They said you have to do a software update but sony terminated theupdate. do you know another place i can get it from?

My Sony KDL-40SL140 stopped responding to any remotes. I’ve unplugged it for hours to see if it would reset. It didn’t. When I plug it in the remote works for a few seconds but stops responding. I was going to update the firmware but Sony doesn’t have any updates. Is there someplace where I can get the last update they provided? It is an older unit but has been working until this happened. Interesting. So I bought this Android TV with model no KD75X8500E from a friend who brought it from Singapore and this was working well for a month but stopped working when I connected it to the internet for Netflix and after it had an Android update (the UI changed and I used it for a day and then it stopped working). I now turns on for a bit and switches off after like a few seconds and blinks 7 times. I asked the guy at the showroom and he said it's a motherboard fault and I need to get the board replaced. But this seems absurd to me because the TV does switch on and works fine for a bit and if it were a hardware issue, I suspect it wouldn't even function so this looks like the new Android OS doesn't work on this model (the showroom dude said TVs that have been imported have these issues as the update maybe of a different country). Is there any way I can rollback the update by running a manual update this way during bootup (because I doubt it will stay on till I go into it and then initiate update)? Or is there any other thing I can do to fix it? (I already tried a firmware reset using the steps on the manual but no luck).

Hey bro. Can you please help me with this ? I have a sony kdl 48w650d, my tv turns on and everything for a bit then it turns off starts flashing red. Ive gone out about a new power card however the first thing i noticed is the minor difference in pn. My board number is a209500c however i was given a a209500E. I installed the card but i have no power, no green light no red light no lights at all. Do you think the new board is faulty?

Hey man. Great videos. I have a question. I have a sony xbr 75x850f and had an issue where my tv wouldn't power on at all. After troubleshooting I realized I needed to replace the main board which I did. Now it powers on but blinks a green and amber light but screen doesn't come on at all. I tried to put a usb drive with the correct firmware update in the usb drives but it eventually just powers off. I let it sit for a while to see if that was part of the process but nothing. Any suggestions ?

Sony kd 49x8307c not updating. Downloaded the latest firmware on usb, put it in the tv and nothing happens. It only does something when i change the name to upgrade_loader.pkg but even then it stays in loop and not working

Sony Bravia KD-65AF8 here. Auto update does not detect firmware version 6.7140. USB key method not working either, it starts but aborts about at 40%. Then restarts and no update was made... :-(

another problem is that usb port in sony tv is very hard to plug-in (i mean physically) After the update, even i choose the "remove" button first before i eject my usb physically when i plug-in the usb to my pc again, it shows there is some damage to my usb, wtf for the Sony TV's design

I tried it with USB stick and it rebooted several times then restarted google TV but it didn’t tell me the update is complete. Once the white LED stopped blinking. It wanted to reinstall the software update again while my USB was still insife

Hi, I watched your video for firmware update. Very easy to follow and thank you for that. I have an issue with my Bravia XBR-55X800E tv I hope you might have seen and have a fix for it. The issue is the WiFi. It worked fine for the first year and a half then one day it wasn’t there. I went into settings and the WiFi was turned off. I turned it back on it searches for a couple seconds and then turns itself off ( only the wifi not the tv ) no matter how many times I try. I have tried soft reset, hard reset, updating firmware by Ethernet cable and by flash drive. Other than no WiFi the TV functions normally. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

How do you update the firmware when the screen is black. Sony 65X950G I’ve replace the power board and the main board and now the front white light comes on, but no picture and no sound. The LCD control board has a green light on it and that will come on, but I don’t think the firmware is installing. Any ideas?
