How to update your BIOS with no battery

Check the comments BEFORE using this
This is the fast and easy way to update your BIOS when the computer says that your battery is not connected. If your battery is dead or not recognized, then just force the update by going into a DOS prompt and FORCE the update.
just use the DOS command "/FORCEIT" after the exe
This only works for Windows machine right now but if you know the Linux equivalent, it would be great to hear.

Legend! Thank you so much for demonstrating this. Days wasted trying the usual battery reset procedures with no success. Boot from USB method kicked out the same "must have a battery" error, even though the battery is present and powering the laptop. Your method works for Dell and maybe HP too, but not Lenovo. Use the -sp command in the same way instead of /forceit. " -s ... Silent mode " " -r ... Reboot after program completed " " -sp ... Skip power status check " " -chk ... Check current TPM firmware " " -suc password ... Skip user confirmation at startup " " Note: -suc option requires supervisor password. "

tried this but it still checks for the battery... in my case it reads C:\lenovo>6uuj20us.exe -sp lenovo is the folder i made on my c drive for this. Thx in advance

Great Video and worked an OLD ACER ASPIRE with DEAD Battery. Just had to watch it several times for the exact entries in CMD. Would like to make a cheat sheet with exact CMD Promp's proper order. I will have to watch it again sveral times to catch the prompts to get them all right the first time; THANK YOU

good thing I happened to found this video.. nice information.. so, I think my battery or any other components that deal with power on my laptop got overheat(?).. already took my laptop to any service center, and got the battery replaced... for short time, there was nothing wrong with my laptop, but several months later the battery somehow couldn't be detected even though the battery life is still relatively new... and it seems I need to update either the OS or the bios to fix this... you guessed it, I couldn't update the bios because the system couldn't detect the battery, and I'm stucked now..

You need ram to access the bios usually. Did you get the right speed of ram?

Please let me know from what DIOS version you updated the laptop to A24. I got the exact model which runs the A13 version. I'd like to know if it is better to do all updates one after one or if it will be ok if I update directly to A24. Thank you

When I run the forceit command, it opens the bios update but then shows me "An unexpected error occured while running the flash application. Please reboot and try again. If the error continues, please contact technical help. Application error return: 0x00000406" my laptop is dell precision m6500

How do I update the BIOS of my Dell latitude E5470. Currently the BIOS version is 1.22.3 installed on 2/17/2020. The latest BIOS for update is of version 1.33.3 which is released on 09 Nov 2022. Should I install this update or do I upgrade one step at a time as there are many versions available before the current latest version. My question or consern is can I skip all the updates and directly install the latest BIOS version. There are 9 BIOS version available before the latest 09 Nov 2022 version. So I am confused as how to go about installing these BIOS updates. I don't want to end up corrupting windows or motherboard.

Google “Dell support assistant” and install that then run the updater. It will handle all the updates for you.

After /forcit I was presented with "please enter the admin password to proceed with the flash" but this is exactly why I'm flashing the bios lol, because it's admin locked and sata controller is stuck in raid and I cant get my nvme m.2 to show up anywhere so I can install windows. If the ASUS laptop needs to update the BIOS, but there is no battery, you can try to enter ez flash, before clicking the BIOS update file, press and hold F11, and then press the BIOS update file, so that you can skip the battery check renew.

I am using a dell xps 14 and trying to update the BIOS. my problem is that when you click on the bios update it opens up a wizard of sorts to actually install the update, and then the error pops up.... so running through cmd will just populate the wizard and then the error persists. any experience with that issue?

nope. sounds like you should take it into a shop. there isn't much of a fee for that.

You should be able to do Windows update even with a dead battery. It's the BIOS update that requires a full charge and/or a battery

Good and clear, but even the /forceit does not let me do the installation : ( (This is a problem since no OS is present after a complete wipe and now trying to flash the bios from USB (WinPE)

@@MikeDancy I get a blue screen during installation. It was not possible to update or fresh install windows, sooner or later it would crash (with different 'codes' being too general to find a specific problem.). I continued to search (I always end one step further/closer, but encounter a new issue). I wiped the drive for a clean install, I even deleted all partitions. With a flash drive I was getting there but instead of executing the program, I get "TEST". With another program I got past this problem, but am now stuck with the 'battery has to be present AND more than 10%'. Now ordered another battery in the hope that it will solve that issue...
