How To Upgrade A Dell Optiplex - Budget Gaming PC Guide 

I did a similar upgrade to a 2012 SFF OptiPlex 7010. I upgraded to an RTX A2000, 16GB of RAM, and two SSDs (128 for the boot drive and 512 for Steam game storage). There was plenty of room for the SSDs without having to sacrifice the DVD drive. I also upgraded the CPU from i5 to i7 and renewed the thermal paste while I was at it. I ended up with a very good mid-range gaming PC that plays all my Steam games well at medium settings.

i5 6500 + rx6400 LP + nvme ssd + 1440p monitor. I just render everything in 1080p and use RSR to upscale to 1440. Stays above 60fps on most games I play. I do get a lot of stutter if the cpu gets maxed out, but for $200 it's a good steam machine

Great content explaining how to upgrade a Dell Optiplex. I remember using a couple of those desktop computers during my college student days circa 2010s. Our computer lab had a about 50 of these computers, we even managed to see a couple of them fixed by the IT department. The only caveats we had with them were the thermals and ventilation, it ran a bit hot due to the size of the case and cramped internal parts. We were inside a cool air conditioned room, and yet we would still hear the fan whir loud noises. We often used them to render 3D animation, video editing, design etc. I'm guessing you could still get them for below $100 for a used unupgraded stock unit.

I really don’t know how to pick the best gpu for my optiplex. When I watch these videos I see them talking about 3 limiting factors: the cpu, the size of gpu and the power draw. I have a MT so I don’t think that size is an issue, an 11th gen i5 so I don’t think that cpu is an issue, I realize that I still have a power issue but I am not sure what I should be looking for in order to make an informed decision…

I just picked one of these up to build a sleeper planning to install a itx am4 board with my 5600x that I used to use in my pc before I upgraded with a 4060 low profile and to power it all will be a hd flex 500w 1u psu

So I just want to upgrade enough to play rocket league and elden ring, do you have any recommended upgrade path for those specifically? I have the 9020 mid tower with an i7 4790 and I I do understand that elden ring specifically is more CPU intensive but just adding a graphics card (where there currently is none) is step one and probably upgrading the PSU at the same time. Just wanted to know what a good choice would be having those titles in mind

I’ve got an Optiplex 990 I’m turning into a decent, not amazing, gaming rig. Emulation. It has integrated graphics which don’t work with many emulators so I’ve ordered a graphics card. Will I be able to install it by this guide or is there more to do because of the integrated graphics? I’ve been told yes & no. I’m not sure & im not about to start this until I know. It’s been years since I’ve done this & im gonna do it right if possible. Thanks for any help from anyone.
