How to upgrade a Netgear ReadyNAS 2100 V2 from OS 4.2.x to 6.9.5 and 6.10.8 - Step by step guide
In this video I show you how to upgrade a second-hand, legacy Netgear ReadyNAS 2100 V2 from the aged looking Radiator 4.2.31 OS to the newest OS 6.95 and then beyond to the latest version 6.10.8.
A talk through a Crib sheet of 'Gotchas' and extra information precedes the actual recorded update of the latest NAS to my collection.

I AM TELLING YOU.... you are a life saver.! i just got an older system and because of the changes in protocols i ended up having to install VirtualBox and install windows 7 on there and then enter the admin page from there to get everything updated to 6.10.x, and not i am able to access it from my win 11 pc. Thanks for the files!!!!!

It is a little difficult to know If you are angry or happy 😆 I am going to gamble and say that things went well, and you are pleased with the result. Enjoy your revitalized NAS units! Thanks for watching.

They are definately too good to throw out. If you have a V2 unit, it will give it a new lease of life. Thanks for watching.

@@crypto-carlos yeah, I was thinking to get something 10G but as a side-solution, it's not bad, been working for a decade now?

Yep - I am really impressed with them especially as I now have them down to around 17 watts per disk, and that including powering my switch and UPS. If I could find out If they would take a bigger disk than 8TB it would be great. Doesn't seem to be any documented cases online of people who have got 10 or 12 TB drives working in an OS6 unit though.

great video. I was able to update 2100 v2 with no problems. There is still problem with upgrading v1?

Yes, there is still a problem with V1 units. They cannot be upgraded. Believe me as I have tried and bricked a unit in the attempt. It gives the V2 units a new lease of life though. My four have been working after upgrade for over a year.. no problems. Thanks for watching

@@crypto-carlos thx for answear. V2 after update works great - I've switched to 2GB ram module. V1 suddenly died. Some RED led is blinking and don't even start fans. Anyway thx for great video.

Dear Carlos, thank you for your guide i successfully update the ready nas ultra 2 to 6.5 firmware. Now, can i try to install a 8 tb hard drive?

Hi @turbowhite87, As my video detailed, this upgrade path was only for a Netgear Ready NAS 2100 V2. I am surprised you attempted the upgrade on your Ultra 2 and didn't brick it! All being said, If you have got that far then it's time to try it with a 8TB drive if you have one handy. I have no idea If it will work or not. My units had success with 8TB and 6TB WD Reds and Seagate Barracudas. Good luck and thanks for watching and commenting.

@@crypto-carlos I did not birck it and it worked. Now i have a problem on the other Nas. It is a readynas duo v2 with raidiaotr 5.3.13. How can i downgrade to 4.x in order to upgrade to os6? Do you know if there is a guide?
@crypto-carlos

I cannot offer any advice on the Duo unit with that OS version. If you want to attempt anything there I would suggest seeing If anyone can help you on the Netgear tech support forum.

Hi Carlos and thank you for the video. Just to be sure, and in order to avoid to brick the Nas, i have a question. I have this 2 two Nas ReadyNas Ultra 2 RNDU2000 x86 RAIDiator 4.2.32 ReadyNas Duo V2 RND2000v2 ARM RAIDiator 5.3.13 Is it possible to update both of them with your procedure? If so, i have to downgrade the firmware of ARM RAIDiator 5.3.13? Thank you

Hi mate, thanks for watching the video. Unfortunately, I cannot comment on those two models as I know nothing about them. I think you will be hard pushed to find out with this unsupported update. You could try the Netgear forum to see If anyone has attempted it?

Hi i have Readynas Ultra 2 version 4.2.15 and i cant access the admin page to make this upgrade.

Hi, as much as I would like to help, this guide is only for the ReadyNAS 2100 V2. I have never seen an Ultra or know anything about its OS support. Your best bet is the NetGear forums where you can search for help on upgrading that model, if possible. Thanks for watching.

Followed your guide. Worked great, was even able to get the data from OS4 over to OS6. Had 4x3TB disks which took about 6 hours to sync with 1.5Tb of data. This on a 2100 v2 where I also upgraded memory to 2Gb.
