I'm planning on upgrading my R200 CAD2 from 7-speed to 10-speed. Your tutorial will be a great reference for me, including the parts list and additional information about the Ultegra upgrade options. Thanks for the good work!

I’m a new subsciber. Got a question if I can upgrade from 8speed to 10 speed cassette. My 1972 classic Colnago Super derailleur hanger might not be wide enough to accommodate the 10 speed cassette.Are those derailleur hanger standard on all road bikes ( talking about the width)?

Edit: I may not have answered your question sorry if there is any confusion! Hi Harold thanks for subscribing I appreciate the support! Luckily any 8 speed cassette wheel will fit a 10spd no problem! The 10 speed cassette has smaller spacers and cogs to make it work, sometimes you need a small spacer that goes on first. If you tighten down the 10 spd cassette and it can rock back and forth you’ll need that spacer behind the cassette, nicer cassettes will actually come with them too! If not..here is a link, they’re cheap: amzn.to/3anzBXc

thanks for your amaing video Sir. i have a situation that needs your help: i rencetly upgraded my vintage bike's flywheel from 7-8speed , the frame supports it nice & well. the thing is it could not shift up to the 8th cog (while i'm shifting it from 7th othe 8th, i could not hold the position and automatically go back to the 7th.) while my derailleur is supposed to support 8 speed well - Shimano Alivio. is it may shfiter that limits this movement? the rear hand shfiter from the group set Shimano RX100

@D2WrenchWorksDIY Год назад
Hi Freddy great work you have done! Thanks for the kind words and please subscribe if you havent already! So like we discuss in the video an 8 speed Cassette is much wider than a 7 speed. You need to adjust the limit screw on the Alivio rear derailleur just slightly to reach the 8th gear. Park has a great tutorial on how to retune your rear derailleur here: www.parktool.com/en-us/blog/repair-help/rear-derailleur-adjustment

So is your hub still 126 mm? or is it now 130mm? my SR 400 came with a 130mm hub shoved in. lol so i added claris shifters, sora front and rear derailleur, hollow tech bb and ultegra brakes. just working on the tune up now... Nice videos'!! the other part 1 caught because mine is also 91 and i also did a full restore including powder coat too.

Hi Mteixeira91, please take a moment to subscribe and help my channel grow! Very good question though, this is a standard 130mm hub. This frame is also a 130mm too though. Sounds like you got a great start on a budget build!

I have a JoyTech hub I am overhauling. It comes with CN-R086 Taiwanese cones. I'm having to reuse the dust covers from the old cones since the new cones don't come with them. The new cones are 0.004 inches larger in diameter than the old cones. What is the preferred approach to dealing with this? Should I use a grinder wheel on a dremel tool to enlarge the dust cover to fit? Or should I order cones that come with the dust cover? Or better yet, should the new cones have come with the dust cover to begin with? Thanks

Can you shoot me an email with pictures of it all and the specifics you included? I’d just like to place eyes on it all if I were to advise to grind anything.
@stephaniegrow2001
@stephaniegrow2001 3 года назад
@@D2WrenchWorksDIY Well I went ahead and did the grinding today and got it to work. The dremel tool with some stone bit on the end - don't know what it was made out of or for - worked. But still would like to know why these cones don't come with the dust cover that fits it.

I have no idea and that is a great question! I ran into the same issue with this shimano hub, the newer deore 8/9/10 speed hub came with no dust cover and had a much deeper housing the bearings sat in. The older Shimano 600 hub was shallow and the plastic dust cover sat flush....try swapping that over and it was binding up the freehub. Had to use Shimano's tech docs to find the proper part it called for and luckily had one in the bin. Annoying to take it apart a few times all because they didn't include the updated dust cover!

Hey there ! I’m a newbie here , n I’m trying to upgrade my 8 speed 600 to a 10 speed .. based on what you said all you need is 10 speed casette ?since I already have an 8 speed . Anything will yep thanks 🙏
@D2WrenchWorksDIY
@D2WrenchWorksDIY 3 года назад
Hi Christian, glad to have you....everyone was once a newbie so don't worry! Please take a moment to subscribe to my channel if you haven't already, I really appreciate the support! As you saw in this video and have already guessed, if you can fit an 8 speed cassette on your hub it will also fit a 10 speed cassette, you may need a 1mm spacer placed behind the 10spd cassette at most. You would then need 10 spd shifters and 10 spd chain, you can reuse your rear derailleur just watch a video on adjusting limit screws beforehand. You can look up whatever your rear der. is online and use that info to find the maximum size cassette, you don't want to accidentally buy too big of a 10 spd cassette as it will damage your rear der. and likely your bike. A few resources for you: -Shimano Tech doc website, definitely bookmark this: si.shimano.com (Your Rear Der. will be stamped with a part number on the inside, opposite of where the logo is. It will be something like RD-5600 that you will type into the shimano search engine, your last 4 #'s will vary based on your rear der model.) -Video I did on many budget parts, including a budget gold 10 speed chain & cassette: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AREmQ9nMR04.html -Shimano Cassette Freehub Spacer: (Make sure your 10spd cassette doesn't already have one first, most come with one new): amzn.to/2F5pY3G

hello man, i sure hope you will read this comment and try to help me.. i have an old 90' road bike brand topbike sigma series from france. it comes with 126mm rear frame dropouts and shimano exage 300 group set. the rear hub is 126 exage fh-hg50 and it has a 7 speed freehub cassette on it. i want to upgrade the whole group set to shimano claris r2000. my prooblem is that i don't know if this will work. the wheel is already dished and as far as i could read and see everywhere i looked mostly it says that 8 speed cassette fits in on at least 130mm length hub old. So my question is if i can achieve all this and order the claris group set and if i will be able to do this mod and instal my wheels as the are atm setup with the original exage hub... thanks in advance for making this video. :D

I have a 8 speed shimano hub now planning to upgrade to 11 speed. I checked my hub doesn't have any spacers behind will i able to fit 11 speed hub onto that?
@D2WrenchWorksDIY
@D2WrenchWorksDIY 3 года назад
Hi Aniket! When going 11 speed it’s a different hub altogether unfortunately. If you wanted to be thrifty you could source an 11 speed hub and lace it into your current wheel. Checkout my Cervelo video, I got some nice 11 speed wheels brand new off Amazon for a good deal and I liked the quality, great deal bc they’re light too! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WPBSrzciR3Q.html

So you didn't have to re-dish the wheel when you did this? Sorry, I was half listening but I didn't see any redishing.
@D2WrenchWorksDIY
@D2WrenchWorksDIY 2 года назад
Hi Sikbrik, please take a moment to subscribe to my channel if you haven't already! 7 speed wheels using the same 130mm axle I have, have the same hub shell width as the newer 8 speed hubs. So you dont need to add any spacers to the axle, nor will you change your stock dish.....so no need to redish! It's a great way to upgrade nice wheels cheap! I actually just did this again last month on some Shimano 105 wheels with no issues!

Just buy a 9 speed cassette and leave the biggest cog and 1st spacer off. Voila. 8 speed on a 7 speed freehub. Much easier
@D2WrenchWorksDIY
@D2WrenchWorksDIY 3 года назад
Hi Matt! I appreciate your comment and please take a moment to subscribe to my channel! I have to point out that this repair is VERY EASY if you watch the video, you also don’t have weird jumps In your cassette by picking parts of it out. You also have the option to upgrade to 8-9-10 speed while you do the hub upgrade. So buying a cassette that costs more than the hub, just to destroy it...it’s more of a “if you HAVE to” versus this video...a DIY budget upgrade. EDIT: IF you must do this, you should buy an 8 spd cassette and remove the smallest ring. Only 7/8 speed have the same cassette spacing so don’t buy a 9 speed cassette.
