Thank you Kim. I watched some of your videos a few months ago. You inspired me to reupholster a loveseat I have. It was just an Ikea piece so I could take it apart and do the seat, back and arms separately. It turned out quite well. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Thank You ,so,soo much ! It is a lots of upholstering video and many of them time lapse with music jingles ... After watching your video and evaluating my tools and ability ,I come to conclusion - that if I would start to upholster my beloved chair -it would be a chair "murder" ... Thank You ! Because now ,I would bring this to professional upholstery place ,or part with it and buy a new one .. Thanks,Thanks, Thanks... Maybe some day ,I would attempt to upholster some chair , thanks to help me realize reality of this task .

I too love your videos. I’m in the process of getting my nerve to redo a chair. I have stripped it down to the wood frame taken many pictures when doing it. I’m trying to get the springs tied but think I’m going to have to get my husband to help. I just don’t have the strength to pull tight enough to get them as low as I need them. Any advice in doing this. Also can you list the companies where you get your synthetic cotton and sag less. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
@KimsUpholstery
@KimsUpholstery 5 лет назад
Hello Lynn, Practice is the main key to getting your spring tying perfected. We do have a video on our website the shows more detailed methods on springing up a chair. As for supplies we buy from Albany Foam and Supply out of NY and Genco Supply out of High Point NC. I hope you will share pictures with us of your project on our FB group. Enjoy the process but beware you will be addicted!

I would love to see a video that explains what all the materials are that you use in the different layers, and WHY they are used. Everything seems to have so many layers, and I don't really understand why. For example, if you have a foam seat, why is it also covered with a thin, softer layer of foam or a layer of the cotton? Why do the layer of muslin or burlap, if you're going to put upholstery fabric there anyway, that would also cover the hole? I love your videos and enjoy how you just stick to what your teaching with the facts. You're very clear cut and easy to understand. Thank you for the all the work that goes into these videos.

What is the deciding factor in doing the seat as you did in this video instead of adding an edge roll? I'm need to do two bergere chairs which have a really old edge roll, should that yucky thing be replaced with a polyester one with a flange? Sagless: Looking for two (2) pcs. of about 20" x 20" Sagless for my chair's backs. I believe you once mentioned that they only sell it by a 30 yard amount. If this isn't readily available, is there any other good alternative? Also, I want to mention how great it is for you guys to share your knowledge, now I just need to get up the nerve and dive in!

Superb Kim. I'm interested in attempting to make a solid wood chair frame similar to this club chair. Is there anything, in terms of construction, that makes your heart sink when you're faced with upholstering a chair frame? I hadn't considered upholstering it myself but you've got me considering it now :-)
@KimsUpholstery
@KimsUpholstery 9 лет назад
ThePsprout . Yes there is. When there are no back or side slats for passing fabric through to the outside of the arm or back. It's easier to build them in than to add them later. Kim
@ThePsprout
@ThePsprout 9 лет назад
Kim's Upholstery Thanks Kim, I appreciate you taking he time to reply. I can see these slats on your chair is there a recommended min/max spacing between the slats and the deck?
@KimsUpholstery
@KimsUpholstery 9 лет назад
ThePsprout this one did not have the slats. You want the far enough from the back post to bet your fabric through and your fingers for tucking the fabric in. Not to far though.
@ThePsprout
@ThePsprout 9 лет назад
Kim's Upholstery Oh, I thought you meant the horizontal wooden spars that run inside the arms and back just above the deck. At 0:08 your arm is on the left arm of the chair and there's a good shot of the spar below the arm rest (parallel with your arm). Presumably these are for structural stability rather than upholstery? Can you recommend a video that shows the slats you mention? Thanks for the advice and Merry Christmas!
