If you are already drawing that small, then you do not need to split it. You can just upload.

Hi, thank you so much for this video! I was wondering how the slice tool in krita works and now I know! Unfortunately I have another (huge) problem. I made a page size 700x7080 (6 webtoon pages) but when I draw and zoom in, the lines are pixeled. Same thing after saving. Now I see that you changed jpeg into jpg which I didn't do. I uploaded to webtoon for testing, same result, pixelart... What can I do? I read that I should create a file at least doubled (1400x2360,600dpi),draw everything and then resize it. Does that even make sense? Sorry for the long post.
@walterostlie
@walterostlie 5 лет назад
Yeah. that will be a little tricky. You should always work at 300dpi at least, just in case you decide to print the comic. You need to pay attention to the print size as well. Example if you may print something at 10 inches by 10 inches, your file would have to be 3000px x 3000px at 300dpi. However, since webtoon is 800px wide, it's not too far off from your 700px wide. So it isn't a huge enlargement, so you should be seeing really bad pixelation. It may be that Krita isn't great at increasing file resolution. You may want to try another program like gimp to see if it can increase the size more cleanly. Or get a trial of photoshop for 30 days. I would also suggest that you take your original file before you sliced it and uprez it too 800px first. That could help. Also if your file is 700px wide but at 300 dpi, then you can uprez to 800px wide but down rez to 72dpi. Thats a lot of info. long story short. 700px is too small for webtoon, but it's not so lo-res that it should have really bad results. So it could be the program doing something un-optimal. My files for webtoon started at 3300px wide at 300dpi. but that is overkill. 2200px at 300dpi is fine.

@camerongeddes1868
@camerongeddes1868 5 лет назад
First thing you wanna do is split the file into large chunks ( make them slightly less than the size of a maximum jpg to make sure you can upload them to an image splitter) and save the separated sections as clip studio paint files, In case you decide to edit them later, with each having their own jpg copy. next you want to find a preferred image splitter. (I recommend the one at Pine Tools, its very easy to use and free.) Then upload one of the sections and input how many slices it needs to be cut into. then download the slices into a new folder (they will be saved as jpg automatically). (make sure you clear the slices from the downloads bar once you've saved them in a new file, because if you don't, the next time you slice an image you may get the order jumbled on the slices in your folder, which isn't a tragedy but an annoyance if you value your time :) ). you must cut enough slices so that they are small enough to fit Web-toons maximum upload size (It'll tell you on the upload page, but you can also refer to Walters tutorials). you want to save the slices of each section in their own folder. (eg. If I slice a section into 7 pieces then I will save all 7 those pieces in their own folder to avoid jumbling).once you have all the slices you need you can upload them buy clicking publish at the top right hand corner of the Web-Toon home page.I hope this was helpful.

I’m super new to webtoon making, what art programs and tablets are recommended for beginners and that are cheap and inexpensive for someone that’s just testing the waters
@walterostlie
@walterostlie 5 лет назад
You can always start off with paper and pencil. But if you want digital, just get a cheap tablet in your range. Wacom is considered the best, they are pricey, but you can get their low end model, or just get a lower brand. I hear great things about Huion and xp-pen. Huion also has some decent priced drawing monitors. For software, the best bang for your buck is ClipStudio (I use this). It is often on sale. But there are some great free apps. Gimp, Medibang, krita, Affinity. They are all free, so try all of them and see which works best for your method. Good luck.

Hi there! I have a question. I came across your videos and they’re very helpful! I am however, a little overwhelmed on format. I’ll be doing my comic on procreate, and I know you use the desktop so my question is can someone make a webcomic in just separate images? Say saying 11x17 and then just upload everything together at the end, and would have get rid of the splicing steps? I only really see things on slicing the comics and no one has really gone over doing them separately and I just want to know if that is possible! Thanks so much!
@walterostlie
@walterostlie 5 лет назад
Hello Andrea. Yes you can upload a traditional comic page, like the kind in comic book stores. Or if you mean just a single panel in one file, you can also do that. There are a few drawbacks though. If you upload a traditional comic page like bit.ly/2EAK69A, then you will not be taking full advantage of the Webtoon platform. The artwork will be a little smaller and not as intuitive for the reader. The other thing to watch out for is your font being too small. The amount you will need to shrink the art to fit into webtoons model may shrink the font too much. So you'd have to increase the font size. If you just mean putting a single panel in a file and uploading 10-40 of those files, that is fine. You will have to mentally think about your spacing between panels. A lot of storytelling can be handled in the amount of space between each panel. The panels are closer, it feels like things are moving faster. Further apart, each panel slows down and gains more importance. If you do a single image per file, you won't be able to see how they all relate to each other until you upload. The good thing about just uploading a traditional comic page it is much easier to print if you decide to do that. However, there's the chance that it could turn off some readers who are used to the webtoon way. Take a look at this video which shows my process for creating a webtoon episode. Since you're using procreate, you'll have to make your own process, but maybe this will give you some ideas. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NNy3c3QOr6w.html

Great video, I have made my comic in Krita, each page is in a separate file, I could export them each as jpg, but the width is 4961, height is 7016 and resolution is 600 ppi. Could this in any way be uploaded to Webtoons or could I in any way convert the files to the correct parameters for Webtoons?
@walterostlie
@walterostlie 3 года назад
It's gonna depend on how many files you have, Webtoon has a limit of 100 files per episode. So if you don't have many files, you can export you files to JPG files that are 800px wide, should be 800 by 1131. That luckily falls into the webtoon requirements of 800x1280. The ppi and dpi don't matter for digital art. If you've made traditional comic pages, I would recommend taking your panels and stacking them one of top of the other in the standard webtoon layout so it's more enjoyable to their reader base. Not a requirement, but if you want the best possible chance with that audience it's a good idea.

If your text layer is still a vector layer, it shouldn't get blurry. Perhaps depending on your file size and computer hardware, it could appear blurry. Another option would be to click on the text tool and then click on the text you already wrote, then double click on the text, the text format box will pop up and you can change the font size there. Here is a video that describes my webtoon creation process and how I handle the vertical format. Take a look and let me know if you have any more questions. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S3rVFG19e4.html

Just to know, my comic isn't a strip. I use MS paint.
@walterostlie

I've heard a few people say they use MS paint. That's pretty cool. Do you feel like it gives you everything you need to make a comic or would you like to try another software?
@marleythespeciesfluid7306
@marleythespeciesfluid7306 4 года назад
@@walterostlie It has so far, but I will need a new software soon because my comic format changed. My format use to only be squares but now I'm going to use rectangles.

Hello, great video. This is kind of a unrelated question and a dumb one maybe but, once you've published your episode in Webtoon, can you delete it?
@walterostlie
@walterostlie 5 лет назад
Yes, you can delete it and edit it. Remove certain panels and replace them.

I use krita to draw and I feel like such a amatuer (mainly because I am one) because I've actually been doing my comic panel by panel. I'm gonna have to watch the second way you changed jpeg files to jpg a couple of times before I get it that part looked a little complicated. Anyway thank you for making these videos its helpful to ppl like me.
@walterostlie

My pleasure! I know how daunting some of the more technical stuff can be. I wish we could just make our comics and not have to think about any of this stuff. If there is anything you ever want help with, let me know.

thank you for this tutorial! But what if i use a higer width resolution, instead 800px i would want to use 1600px or 2400px, just to have a high res file in case in a future i want to print them?
@walterostlie
@walterostlie 5 лет назад
You'd have to drop the resolution for your webtoon file. You'd end up with two files. I draw my comics at 3300px wide. Then I shrink them to 800px wide and then slice them for webtoon. This shows my entire process, it's long but may be helpful. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S3rVFG19e4U.html
