Was wondering why my bass wads messed up, thanks

I was gifted a Peavey basic 112 bass amp. My question is, can I play a Les Paul and / or a Strat through this type of amp. I'm not a gig player, just an at home learning to play guitar student.

My peavy amp has a knob that says “vintage” and I don’t understand what that means and I can’t find any videos on it. Do you know by any chance?

My bass does a loud POP before turning off, what should I do ?
