For the ones who are successful in getting it out, apply a grease that is food safe and to make your future repair easier to do and also you will instantly notice how much better the fixture functions. Take the time to grease all parts for fixtures from now on as well. You will glad that you did down the road. Coming from a plumber that does maintenance ;)

I watched several other how-to videos but yours was more detailed about installing and how the removal tool is designed to function. The other videos actually were giving the impression that you needed to tighten the removal tool until you couldn't even turn it with the vice-grips to extract the old cartridge. Your video was short and sweet and showed how the tool was actually designed to remove the old cartridge and saved me $300. Appreciate you and thank you!!!

Great video! Very well explained and made the job really easy without breaking anything. A couple issues I had was the puller came to an end before I was able to get the stem out of the valve body so I slowly rotated the handle on the puller back and forth while pulling and it finally came out. The other issue I had was getting the new stem to slide into the valve body. I destroyed my first stem trying to force it in even after applying lubrication. I took a toothbrush and some calcium/lime remover and scrubbed the inside of the valve body for 30 minutes. The second stem I coated in petroleum jelly and it slid right in with little effort. Never use a metal brush or sandpaper inside the valve body or you might have some new drips. Hope this helps.

Just bought an OEM Moen cartridge puller from Amazon. The phillips end (of the screw) has been replaced with an 8 mm hex screw. Best if you have a socket to screw that in and out.

DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE SCREW! Just get it snug. This is directly from the instructions, especially if you want to reuse the cartridge. Definitely use plumbers grease before putting the new one in. It might be hard to pull... I had to pull about 100 times to get it out... Great video. Thanks.

try doing it with a corroded old style 1200 valve.....you'll pull the inner core out

those fail often fastest way to remove old cartridges is a hot air gun, I use a blow torch for 5-10 seconds , then a lil wiggle pull with vice grips and bam !! slides out fast keep a lil spray bottle to spray and cool afterwards

I see a lot of videos for Moen products. Is there a universal tool that will work on all brands? I have a 35 year old brand called stanadyne that I've never heard of before and the cartridge is not budging. Thank you!

You removed the cartridge look so easy. For me, it was very hard to get out.

What if the stem broke off?? Can I still use the puller??

In the real life never works that easy, it’s a great tools but I’m pretty sure you put that cartridge in the valve just before you started recording the video, also, you used your channellocks backwards.

My notch dropped. Can I still use this tool to pull it out?

Never works that easy/ The stem always strips out, and there's never enough throw on the extractor

Almost every cartridge I pull out the rubber gets stuck inside the fixture making the cartridge a mf to get out. Wd40 helps what a pain in the ass plus most of thr time the water shut off screws never work so I have to shut the water down to the whole damn building just for a cartridge lol

Here is a simple trick to get the valve out. Take off the shower head and replace with a standard end cap (1/2" black iron cap - less than $2). Take the pin off the cartridge and turn on the main water supply. Wait until the valve is pushed out by water pressure or you can help it out with pliers. (Have someone ready to turn off water supply) Done!

It NEVER comes out that easy. I'm about to chain the end of this shit to my F150 to yank it out. Good luck and Godspeed if the things been in there for 2 yrs+

It would be nice if it worked that easy. 3 of the 4 I have worked like that but the 4th has a lot of whatever on it and I can't get it to move! By the way, when you do instructional videos learn how to use the tools correctly. You used the channel lock pliers backwards (turn it over and re-grip). Just FYI.

You listed 3 tools needed...then immediately used a fourth tool... Then you use the channel locks wrong.

This is why you shuld not use Moen
