Hey Frank, did you realize that you can use the visual filter setting called “outline formatting” which allows you to see BDB in a in an outline format, which makes it easier to find the different senses listed out. Click the Visual filter button, then Resource then “outline formatting”. Just in case anyone wasn’t aware.

Yes, I did but I had to leave some features out for time consideration. I'll definitely include this in my next BDB video. Thanks!

This is a great tip! And Logos has Outline Formatting for a lot of the most popular lexicons, Greek and Hebrew. It's a game changer and makes them way more useful, imo.

Dictionaries are powerful. Brown Driver and Briggs (BDB) is a popular Biblical Hebrew/Arabic dictionary. If you use the BDB translations then the Arabic acronym "Hamas" is going to be translated to Hebrew חָרַךְ, (Movement), מֵקִ֛ים (establishment) , and ישלם (peace/love/friendship). So "Hamas" means "Movement for establishment of Love/Peace/Friendship" according to BDB.

Thanks for sharing these tips, Frank! I always had a hard time using my Hebrew lexicons on Logos (partly my fault because I've not committed myself to learning how to use them yet), but this video has helped me a lot to figure out how information is organized in lexicons like BDB. Greetings from Brazil!

Thank you for the greetings. This was only an introduction. I plan on digging deeper in the future and I hope you will find that even more helpful.

As someone completely new to all this, how does BDB compare to HALOT or CHALOT as Biblical Hebrew lexicons? Thanks in advance!

I plan to address this comparison in future videos. Stay tuned!

I need help with understanding something in the document if you have time, please. Someone cited it to me as a source, stating that it contains a literal translation from Noah and Ham in the Tent after the flood. When Noah was passed out and naked. The pastor that cited this to me is an evangelical and I want to call him on it. Genesis Ch 9 : 20 - 25 His claim is that "Ham saw his father naked with GLEE or GLEEFULLY." Then rambles on about how "some people" think it means Ham abused his father for his own pleasure while Noah was passed out. I have two Torah's and a James Tabor translation of Genesis and none of them use "glee or gleefully."

Mahalo for that.... 1.01 up but one of the favorite ways around this from Roman Catholic apologist Bob and jennis did this in our debate long ago back on what was that 2000 I think somewhere around there is to try to say that Abraham was justified multiple times I guess he kept committing mortal sins or something but he was justified multiple times he was justified in Genesis 15 he was justified again in Genesis 22 when he offers Abraham Isaac on the altar problem is that is an argument against Paul bc what you have in verses 9 and following is you have a temporal element of the argument he's asking was this righteousness given to Abraham when he was circumcised or uncircumcised and his argument is Genesis 15:6 is before received even the sign of circumcision therefore it was uncircumcised so the Jews can't do what they do in making circumcision a part of how you receive Doug Wilson’s Response to Riley, Taylor Marshall and Justification Join/MeWe/groups/Biblical Archeology 42 members
