Hello, I can't reach a temp of more than 70 degrees celsius using the double boiler method. Am I doing It wrong? i have to heat the 464 up to 85 degree celsius. Thank you
@candlescience

Hi! It may be that the burner dose not heat enough to get to the higher temps but I would also recommend making sure the thermometer you're using is correctly calibrated as this can sometimes cause incorrect readings.

When could add color dye block? In the collection pitcher?
@candlescience
@candlescience Год назад
We recommend adding dye to the wax at 185°F

So is It okay to add color to already melted wax along with the fragrance? I was under the impression color had to be added in the beginning of the melting process (the dye blocks). Do you weigh the wax after it’s already melted? Asking because I’m use to weighing the wax before putting It on the stove for a double boiler process.

For the dye, you can add it at the 185°F point with the fragrance or at the beginning of the melt! If you add it with the fragrance, just be sure to stir well until the dye is fully incorporated into the wax. You could also add dye at the beginning to allow it more time to melt. You can weigh the wax before the melting process as the weight of the melted wax will be the same. 16 oz of unmelted wax, for example, will still weigh 16 oz when it's melted. If you would like to be super precise about pouring the same amount of wax into each container, you could pour the wax into the jars while they are on a scale but you should not typically need to weigh the wax after it has been melted if you weighed it out beforehand.

When is it safe to plug the melter in,, without burning up the heating element?? Can't plugging in an empty melter,, burn up the heating element??

I'm using a small one similar to this. Why does my wax turn brownish/yellowish overtime? Is it scorched? How do I avoid it?
@candlescience
@candlescience 3 года назад
Holding the melted wax at a very high temperature over a long period of time could potentially result in some scorching and then some discoloration. We'd suggest heating the wax according to the wax manufacturer's recommendation as different waxes can react to heat in different ways. Not using dye or fragrance in the melter itself can also help with discoloration as both dye and fragrance can cause a color shift in wax over time. Regularly cleaning out the melter can help as well as this can remove any excess wax that might be stuck.

how do you weigh the melted wax you are pouring?
@candlescience
@candlescience Год назад
To weigh out a specific amount of melted wax, you could pour into a pitcher directly on a scale. Or, once you know the weight of your pitcher, you can pour the wax in from the melter, weigh it on a scale, and then just subtract the weight of the pitcher.

Can I use this to melt Shea butter
@candlescience
@candlescience 3 года назад
It does have a dual heat range of 50° to 250°F, so it would likely be able to heat the shea butter to your desired temperature but we haven't tested it for this specific use, unfortunately, so we're unable to say whether this melter would be the best option.
