Fine as far as it goes, but you don't show how you position yourself to manipulate the roof ladder, or how to get onto it from your ladder on the ground!

You don't look to be at ground level. So what are you standing on? Another roof or ladder? Either way, the video isn't clear. It would have been handier to see you start from scratch, i.e. from ground level.

Excellent video! Thanks for the tip. Here in America I’ve seen many people use this method successfully. They have a roof hook that they attach to the ladder here in America. You don’t see roof ladders that much here in the USA. Thousands of people use this method in the USA. It would be safer if you had a rope that you could secure yourself to something that would catch your fall in case something went wrong. Although there are videos all over RU-vid showing people use the same method that you’re showing here with great success. Thanks for the video! It takes time to make these videos and I learn from everyone.

Roofers walk on the battons under the tiles, but unless you know how to do this it's better to hire a decent roofing company to investigate for you, as you run the risk of cracking tiles if you get up there without using a roof ladder as shown in this vid. Even with a roof ladder you can still crack corners off 1950s tiles if youre not careful. Use CheckATrade to find one and find someone who comes to actually have a look when giving you a quote

I want to find a way to stand a ladder securely on the garage apex roof, so that I can paint the render on the side of the house, the ladder or structure would have to be, either side of the ridge tiles. @PHNX0
@PHNX0 3 года назад
I did it following this video, off a ladder with a good 'stability bar ' at the base, and a quality stay at the top to make it very stable. But I'd only recommend this if you're quite agile, have reasonable upper body stregnth and a head for heights. The prospect of doing a Rod Hull is very real even just from the gutter line of a 3 bed semi. Decent scaffolding makes all the difference but costs with it. However, in perspective, your life / continued mobility are worth the expense of a scaffold / paying a pro to get up there for you if you're in any way not confident.

@@PHNX0 when you get the roof ladder half way up the weight transfers, must be the upper body strength I lack, but it is a quality heavy ladder.

It would be advisable to tie rope to the top part of the ladder and send the rope down the roof to tie the rope somewhere CERTAIN NOT TO MOVE so that when climbing upward or downward is hapenning the top if the ladder is being pulled down on. No matter what thouh, climbing roofs is dangerous. Safety equipment attached to you and to the chimney would make climbing safer but HOW to set this up when you have to make it to the rooftop?

I've been a roofer for 36 years, as your type of DIY ladder only makes contact in four places that is where all the pressure is and where it will break the slates /tiles, as opposed to a ridge ladder that makes contact with the whole of the roof.

Ridge tiles don’t even play a part, the cat ladder shouldnt be using the ridge tiles, it bends over the ridge onto the tiles on the other side of the roof. Your cat ladder should clear the ridge tiles so you can replace ridge tiles if that’s what the job requires. Shouldnt be touching the ridge tiles at all Not sure how your friend managed that

The US prices also reflect on the cost of the brushes and adapters, it’s really ridiculous. 👍🏻👍🏻

Bad demo. How would you get on the ladder safely ? I'm affraid of heights all I need is a dummy explaining a video which isn't very practical or safe. This doesn't show you how to safely !! Harness yourself to the house. Dangerous situation here. Bad example.

Hi Eddie, apologies I should have mentioned in the video that I was on a scaffolding. You can see it in the background so I wrongly assume viewers would see it. I wouldn't use a roof ladder off a ladder, I'd end up on the deck! So good point, well raised. One thing, if you're scared of heights, a roof isn't the place for you! Thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching!

POUSE around the HOUSE look I know you mean well. I would be careful no one tries to do something daft and then blame you. And then try !! Sue you. All been said I gather you be are a professional builder, and always use "Safe" methods. Scaffolding would be the job.

Eddie Lloyd I’ve been doing this for 30+ years. First off fix your ladder from ground level to fascia board with two screw in ( drill pilot holes) ladder eyes and tie securely. Second, push roof ladder over ridge and tie to vertical ladder. I sometimes just use an ordinary ladder supported on offcuts of pipe insulation taped to strings. I find hook over ridge will break slates on opposite elevation if you’re not careful. Hope this helps

How to move a roof ladder that’s already on the roof is all this video shows. Pointless.

To get the ladder up there just carry it up the scaffolding like you would anything else. This video was to show DIY novices how a roof ladder functions. Sorry you didn't find it useful.
