Karen GIRL. I only learned this recently and I have been sewing for about 45 years. Thanks for the refresher. It’s a tip everyone should know.

Karen! I am definitely one of those people that was using my seam ripper the WRONG way! I not only learned from you how to use it correctly…. I also learned what that little red ball was for! So happy you made this tutorial. I just went and did it the RIGHT way on a long seam I was dreading unpicking and took out the whole long seam in about 30 seconds! Game changer! Thank you for saving me countless hours!!!!!

I'm surprised that many didn't uses it correctly.. u should slide through the sewing all the way to the end, instead of picking it out one by one thread... 😂

Hi Karen. I learned that several months ago, and so happy I did. Sometimes, it seems I am ripping stitches as much as I sew (serious vision loss). It made my life much easier!

Thank you for the reminder to sharpen or get a new one. Few things more infuriating than needing to use the seam ripper only for it to be dull and then rip the fabric, not just the thread/seam. P.S. oh I didn't know about the ball and fibers. I did learn something else!

Yes Miss Karen I learned that many years ago. I was in junior high school, seventh grade home economics when I learned to sew and cook. I only knew how to make Tex-Mex food from my mom. Sewing by machine was a new experience and realized my love for sewing. At any rate I find your style of teaching so exciting. Your cheeriness is quite infectious 😊. Have a lovely day.

I love this message, reminds me when my mum taught me to sew and cook, I was so excited I made my sister's (G0D REST HER SOUL) school uniform, I bought the material and made it all myself I could believe I did it, I would take her to school and watch her so proudly, thanks for the memory.

Good question it usually tells you in the instructions when you buy your sewing machine However are you referring to thread to bobbin or cone to a spool ?

This depends on how we were taught. Some teach your method and some the other way. I find that sometimes your way works well and sometimes its disaster. As the blade can catch the fabric threads and make a hole and not just cut the stitches. Whish is why my sewing teacher got upset with me for using it your way. Which is how my mother taught me to use it. I now have a whole block in my scrap bag as I made a hole unpicking a seam. I find in all my years of sewing that it cutting a thread here and there and using the point to unpick is the best way to be fast and not damage the fabric. The way you were taught is not necessarily the best or proper way. It is a preference of how to use the tool. When I get lazy and do it the fast way, it has a bad habit of ending in disaster. At least for me. To each their own method and happy sewing.

Okay, I'm glad someone else mentioned the risk of tearing holes in the fabric--when I tried to do it her way, as I was unpicking a LOT of stitches, trying to unmake a garment made of thick, heavy fabric, I found I kept tearing holes in my fabric! Or shearing lines of fabric off as I undid the stitches. So now I'm wary of trying that method...
@grandam195
@grandam195 3 месяца назад
@@MusicLoverGurl The best way I know is to cut a stitch every few inches on one side. Unpick a few stitches, enough to grab the thread and yank that section out. Repeat. The other side just releases. Or slit threads on alternate sides. Depends on the fabric and thread how close or far you can pull the threads out.
