I’m 50 years old and I can’t believe this is the first time I’ve seen something so simple that I have never encountered before. Thank you for the video. i’ve just been using horizontal flat strokes that leave streaks
Similar here. I have been using a duster and windowlene for years but about to buy one of these squeegee things but one on a long pole as I have a very very tall house.
@@5tone_10 19 now and I'm doing great, started working construction with my father and bought my first truck at 17, 19 now and I'm building all sorts of stuff from fences to decks, even learned how to fix certain car issues along to way.
This is deceptively difficult but after five viewings I'm starting to get the hang of it. Think I need a better squeegee (just bought one) but this technique will be what I'll use in the future. Excellent description and tutorial, my compliments. Can't believe how much time I've spent over the decades cleaning windows the wrong way. Thanks for posting this.
That is one clean window... Thanks for this video! I purchased a window cleaner with the sponge and squeege on either side and it was leaving streaks, I'll definitely try that first technique.
I've learnt so much from you Chris, saw this video 12 months ago when I started out. I really appreciate all your great video's and your willingness to share with others information that's taken years of experience to know. I now have a successful window cleaning business in Australia and love being my own boss! Thank you!!!
+Neil Beckett Thanks Neil, that's made my day. I was feeling a bit down but now I heard this, it makes me feel better. I like being my own boss too. Every success to you.
Yes you are making a positive difference to people all around the world that your maybe not even aware of. I find your skills with the wagtail simply amazing, I'm slowly getting there but a long way to go. I started with tiny houses, tomorrow I'm doing this place, thanks to people like you! www.realestate.com.au/property-house-vic-mornington-106727696
When I wash the outside of my home windows I use a couple of caps of car wash fluid diluted in a water bucket, apply and rub with a large sponge, rinse with the garden hose, and for a squeegee I use a spare medium size windshield wiper to get rid of the excess water. They windows end up sparkling.
Great video. Thanks. Just one question. How much pressure do you apply on the squeegee? Do you just let it glide on the glass or press on with some pressure. Thanks
Hi Sandy, thanks for your comment. I actually love Wagtail but if you don't like that, I would go for Unger. I always use Black Diamond squeegee rubber though.
Excellent video friend; I was trying to remember the first technique (I had seen it elsewhere before) but I couldn't for the life of me recall. A business venture of mine recently failed and I was thinking of getting into window cleaning as winter is coming up and freelance landscaping isn't really an option. Anyway, thank you, cheers!
Wow, thanks for the pointers Christopher! Now some parts of the technique makes sense....specifically tilting the squeegee. I've got 700 square feet of 13 foot high windows to do on my Central London apartment way high up (working on my balconies of course...I like clean windows but don't have a death wish) Got some excellent equipment and now thanks to you and your pointers, some good technique put to use...all the best!
Thank you for this very clear advice. Two questions - how do you do tiny window squares and how do you get the right consistency of liquid so that it cleans but does not smear? Getting both of these wrong!
I don't have many of these so all I do is to "scrim" them. I find that the squeegee I use being only about 10" - 12", fits nearly everything. I do a lot with WFP now though but I do most of the bottom windows with the squeegee.
Nearly forgot! the liquid issue. I find that washing up liquid or hand soap you get in the bottles, is essential for slip and this is what it's mostly for. I tend to experiment a lot still but generally, I will put quite a lot of liquid in. This serves two purposes. The first being that it will hold the water in suspension on the glass and you will get less bleed or runs sencondly, because I use WFP for the tops, it tends to drip and splash onto the bottom windows for a little bit. This pure water on the glass tends to severly dilute the liquid mix and will end up too diluted if your mix was not thick enough in the first place. Using far too much liquid on the other hand will lead to a thick claggy mess on your blade which appears to need scraping off rather than squeegeeing off. If you experiment a bit you will get to the right mix by experience.
Hi Michael, if you drop down and click on the link below, you will see how to do dogearing. This virtually eliminates having to detail a window after having squeegee'd it. If you don't want to mess around with DIY, then look at getting a Moerman squeegee with the blue ends on it. This was developed as a direct result of this DIY modification.
I`m just beginning my window cleaner "career" and I`m getting frustrated cause I always leave streaks, which requires detailing of course and it isn`t time effective. I`m not sure if it`s because of my wrong technique or a wrong tool. My squeegee is from vileda (Germany) and it`s brand new! For cleaning I used...dish soap :)
not one time did i think of using this on my front windows it has always been for car window. !!wow the simplist thing here is pretty amazing i will be doing it on the home windows now . lol. .. thanks. .. imagine how many never do anything but the cars . ??? me.
I can imagine, but your style of writing is down to earth and comes across so well, I couldn't put the book down. No pretentious drivel, just a really interesting account, I really wish you well in the future and if you put out any more books let me know as the original book was a pleasure to read! Thank you. It actually made me think about a lot of aspects in my life when I was young and had similar experiences at school especially.
Richard Graham Richard, sorry I missed this post but yes I do have another book out. It's a novel this time but based on a true story. Its theme is time travel and as you've read the autobiography, you will recognise some of the characters and places in this novel.www.amazon.co.uk/Inside-Clock-travel-based-story-ebook/dp/B00NDC4DRS Thankyou for taking the time to post and read my stuff, I appreciate it a lot Chris
OK, I just bought it from Amazon, good luck, I enjoy a good read! You won't get rich on that mate, but 99P coming your way (probably a lot less after they take their cut!)
I used to like Black Diamond. Dont last long but thats not the point. Its not about making the rubber last and saving money. Its about making money and looking at the rubber as a consumable just like you would with pure water. You just have to use it.
Hi, yes its a modified squeegee and it helps with detailing so you don't hardly have to wipe the edges at all. See the instructional video on the subject: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XIM6262zu6A.html
I have to admit it's driving me mad. I have a lot of windows in my house and enjoy cleaning them so recently I bought a basic Unger 12" and ordered a Moerman Liquidator 2. Also using an Unger applicator and Unger soap. For the life of me I can't stop the things streaking and always have to detail it. The Liquidator has a problem, a tiny dent in the blade which I'm expecting them to replace as it's brand new but the other still leaves streeks
Hi Daniel, its because it cuts down on detailing (having to use a cloth round the edges) To find out how to do this you can go to the link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XIM6262zu6A.html
Mike you need to think big and save your money go to home depot & get some real money making equipment for cheap & do stores & homes I was homeless too and now I work for a company and I have cards from vista print& 33 stores on the weekends I'm living a wonderful life right nowso you can do it too ! Good luck
Hi Juan, here is a link for you that shows how to do the dogearing. If you get it right it will blow your mind ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XIM6262zu6A.html
