A stud finder / stud detector / stud sensor is a handheld device used to locate framing studs located behind the wall, usually plasterboard / gyprock / drywall.
This particular one is a Franklin ProSensor T13 Professional Stud Finder purchased from Bunnings for around $100. The process for other brands would be similar if not the exact same.
