@@benscottDOP I had one of those along time back and REALLY enjoyed it ! Actually if I’m honest I had forgot just how good that is , I have a video of it on my channel somewhere ⚡️⚡️😊
Hey Richie, don‘t know if you‘re into that kind of thing, but if you‘re handy with a soldering iron, get a Forum-Vibe kit and build it yourself. The build process is a ton of fun, you‘ll learn a lot about the way the effect actually works and get a 100% authentic circuit to the original Univibe minus the vintage „inconveniences“ (and the board even accommodates for some optional mods!)
I tend to roll the tone knob on my guitar down when vibing out. Good video. Agreed on the intensity being turned down as well. A trick to using fuzz with a wha pedal is to put the vibe in between them (if I remember correctly), turn the intensity all the way down and put it on the vibrato setting. This will make the wha work properly without washing out.
There’s quite a lot of Fuzz tones that are really combinations of effects? Octave + Fuzz. Vibe>echo>Fuzz>Wah (…mentioned here). Fuzz>Vibe. Fuzz>Wah. Vibe can be such a good compliment to Fuzz. Your Tones are really great! Appreciate you sharing openly how you get them. Make your Vibe come Alive!
i'm a synth person primarily with almost no guitar skill level, but i love this advice. there's no rules and no such thing as "wrong" but modulation effects in general will usually sound better with chords to chew on, and feel wasted on completely monophonic lines. no one talks about this from what i've seen. the distinction between ideal typical chorus speeds vs ideal typical univibe speeds is even more unheard of to me, but a great observation. there will always be exceptions, but there are some 'best practices' for drawing on classic sounds.
Thanks Fret Junkies for the nuggets great sounds coming from your rig and Uni-Vibe pedal and l really love that Echo Flutter you added it was perfect man!! God Bless you channel brother!!
I was very disapointed with my DejaVibe, until I understood that I had to crank the volume on the amp and ... Voilà !!!! PURE MAGIC !!! Thanks a lot for all the content and advices that you share with us. PEACE ;)
I'm so glad I discovered your channel Richie!! I have a Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe TC and I've tried all sorts of before and after OD/Fuzz combinations but couldn't quite get that sound......until I turned down the intensity and altered the EQ on my amp as you advised. Bingo !! The vibe is beautiful now !!!! Keep up the good work and again THANK YOU !!
You got a great taste and playing man. Hope to see more lick/solo lessons, because you got a great taste and it's not like anything out there. 🔥🔥 I am so gratefull for this channel. 🙏
I see Aberystwyth is one of your favorite vibe tones - mine as well. I stood right in front of Philip when he played that - September of 2019. Blew my mind. He used an "Ultra Vibe" that night. Though he's obviously used several over the years.
Nice video, man! Greetings from Brazil. Just bought a Nux Vibe (the old model, not Monterey Vibe) and I can't wait to explore the UniVibe world! Used to play with it alot on Amplitube, wish I had found your video before. Nice tips!
Right/Wrong might not be the best way to describe it? Not being afraid to experiment is key. With that approach, you can find what works for you on a part. That said, there are effects that have been around and have Classic sounds. Learning how to coax those sounds out of a pedal can be tricky? Love the experience 🙏 Your tips are right on point! I agree that Univibe, and Fuzz have to breathe to come through. EQ, other effects, playing style, the guitar’s volume and tone, amount of Notes, ALWAYS: NOTE CHOICE AND PHRASING...match the playing to the effect, the effect to the playing.
Few things for this one :), Pre EVH leaving us, I would have agreed to not play fast over-with a vibe, however, going back to Eddie and his phaser tones lately (Like, every day!, miss you Eddie!), Made me wonder if instead of a phaser I use a slow vibe for solos (Fast and slow) and man! LOVE IT, yes you can't hear the "pulse" but there is definitely a creamy thing on the solo that I think is pretty cool. There is almost no "wrongs" btw, almost! 2nd and last, I think is important to note the vibe before and after ODs. A FF before the vibe gives you JH Woodstock, vibe before and OD gives you a warmer Robin Trower tone, what I have on my board, best of both worlds! peace, great video!
Looks very similar to the Electric Orange Moon Vibe? I love Univibe pedals. So addictive. Makes you wanna play for hours. You get Lost in the hypnotic-Throb. Great tone and playing.
I would like to see more on the 68 Vibe by Jessie D Also in your room and gigging is probably going to be two different EQ settings so to cut through the band mix Good to see someone else using an EPH3 pedal I've been pairing mine with an old AD9 for the longer delay tones Only using my tried and true TS these days Still on the vibe and fuzz quest but thinking my new Tone King amp will be friendlier than my other amps The TK amp just seems to make all my FX and guitars sound better Great tones man Cheers
I use the mxr with my 66' pro reverb and it's sick. The combo of strat, univibe and amp is so touch sensitive, I can only imagine what a boutique effect could provide.
The Midnight and Violet Vibe are the same thing. The Midnight just has an external footswitch to change between Chorus & Vibrato. The Violet Vibe uses a toggle switch for this. That's the only difference besides the aesthetics/graphics.
Just discovered your channel. Nice playin man. Ace vid. Learned alot. I have a Danelectro Cool Cat. It was 35 quid. Its amazing for the price. Dont think they make them anymore unfortunately.
Awesome video for sure! Strats + vibe = heaven. Curious to see anyone get those tones from humbuckers..... I've got a cheapo op amp based vibe now but building a clone of the original with modern (switchable) buffer and power supply. I'm keen to check out these tips on a 'proper' vibe!
Aberystwyth with a Uni Vibe is possibly the most tastiest things I've heard in a while. Philip knocked it out with that live album, and you knocked it out with this video. Amazing job
Have you tried the voodoo labs microvibe? I have always wanted a univibe but they are too expensive, for me the most important thing is the initial attack of the note, even though it is a subtle effect I always notice that, like for example there is a moment in the song time by pink floyd that always hits me, anyway thanks for the videos man!
Yes actually a pretty decent little unit , though I’d probably go at a jam pedals vibe for not to much more money ! I hear ya , some tracks are nostalgic with that tone !
This is really valuable insight, thanks for sharing it! I'm curious, have you tried the JHS Unicorn univibe at all? If so, what are your thoughts on it?
@@FretJunkies it’s what I ended up getting after a bit of research, although I have to say I’m curious about this Delta Vibe that’s been in some of your videos (and Chris Buck’s a couple of weeks ago!), sounds epic!
I'm running my vibe into a Marshall Amp no other effects and it sounds like mush. I have low output 50's style pickups and I just can't get that underwater tone. I'm using the Fulltone Vibe. Any advice I'm all ears.
Hey there, if you are getting mush, maybe try a fuzz in front with the guitar volume pot rolled back ? Sometimes that can help push out the highs which should cut through the mush ?
@@FretJunkies ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mrxeefQVcUM.html made a quick video response. One note I have my Marshall settings for my Les Paul so strat sound isn't dialed in. I learned a lot watching your video. Thank you.
I personally really enjoyed them, I think from memory the black batwing knob one was favoured? but in all honesty I couldn't hear a huge difference, the volume pot change for better unity is pretty much needed if you play loud :]
What pickups are in that guitar? Or what would you recommend for a similar sound? I have a custom ship strat but the Klein pickups in it don’t have enough character for my taste.
@@FretJunkies Yeah I finally sprung for some original 65 pups for my 65 Strat and WOW but I replaced the pots that were going bad w some Emerson and that guitar is just on top of a mountain now Hard to describe unless you've played on a great set of vintage pick ups Good stuff 👍
OK.. We all want to get the best one. We all want to get one that sounds just like the Shin-ei Univibes like the ones Jimi used. OK so can you test an original Shin-ei Univibe vs the new SHin-ei Vibe Bro, vs a new Effectrode Tube Vibe, Sir Henry, and whatever other ones sound just like the original Shin-ei Univibe. Got to get the right one. Cost too damn much to piss about and get the wrong one.
Yeah been thru two Full tones and a Drybell and other non photo cell vibes Sold them all...been peeking at the King Tone 68 but yes agree 4 to 6 hundred is a lot spend if your not sure
this red indian-voodoo-stilysh amp on the top of the fender is absolutely gorgeous... i tried many different chorus-/vibrato-style pedals - none of them worked. then i found the jam pedals retro vibe - its perfect
Michael Angelo! Dude is an angry hack. I dont care how "good" he is, I cant be impressed. I met him years ago at a Music Expo, where musicians come to show off and all I could was laugh at everything he did. It was like Spinal Tap tried to go legit...and failed
Playing along to the univibe throb is boring to listen to. It just becomes a tremolo. Being out of time with the unit adds to its watery effect. Best sound of a univibe to my ears is guitar volume low into a silicon fuzz face for that added bite and bright, into vibe, into either a boost and clean amp, or just a plexi style. That’s just my vibe anyway 🙏🏻
1:30 is that Michael Angelo? I met him at a Music Expo years ago while doing a demo on stage...whether he's "good" or not is irrelevant. I couldnt stop laughing at him. I just couldnt be impressed, no matter how hard he tried.
Nah. You're doing it all wrong. I won't even go into the list, but let's just say your choice of grille cloth is on it. And that cable is emblematic of your dogma as a modern musician/gear consumer. JK. There's no right and wrong in music. The rules are made to be broken. Someone out there mis about to fuc k up in the perfect way toasty will yield a new and exciting era in music. Unless someone who seemingly has authority, tells them they are doing it WRONG instead of PROPERLY, and shuts down their creative endeavor. How many times have entire trends in music, equal to the baroque period, been sidetracked and destroyed by musical bullying? I wonder. Probably a couple, at the very least.
