simplestepsmobility.com/mobili... Using a walker after a hip replacement is a given. It's pretty straight forward and it will only be temporary. But, it's always good to have a refresher.
While most hip patients have lest pain than knee patients, but there is still a good degree of discomfort and use of a walker allows you to take some of the pressure off the operated leg.
A front wheel walker can be used in the home and on any smooth and level surface. Many people use them on the sidewalk and asphalt also.‎

Thanks for this! I was taught while leaving the hospital but between the drugs, the fatigue, post-op brain mush, I wasn't sure I had it right, especially as you see people seemingly pushing their walker ahead of them. I am 50 % weight bearing until I see my doc, so "step to" it is.

Thank you for this video. Learned how to do the worker while I was in the hospital after having a full hip replacement (also right side) Just needed refresher to make sure I do it correctly as I progress. Did a search and found your good video.

Greetings from Calcutta, India. Thank you for your enlightening video. I had femur bone fracture almost 8 months back, still I cannot walk without any help and even with a cane. I had pains on my groin. Please tell me what I can do in this situation.

Hello. I am sorry that it's taken so long to recover for you. It's difficult to say without further information and being half a world away. Naturally I cannot give medical advice to someone I am not able to assess and physically treat. There are several factors that may come into play that you would need to discuss with your doctor and physio in your local area. 1. Did the femur heal in a favorable position? 2. During the healing process, was the limb kept in a flexed or shortened position that would lead to chronic soft tissue shortening? 3. Were other structures involved besides the bone itself from the original injury? These are (a few) questions that should be asked prior to initiating any type of treatment. Hopefully you are dealing with only soft tissue shortening that can be manually stretched by your local physio I hope this was a little help.

Hi, thank you so much for this info! Is it the same technique used for a anterior hip arthroscopy (FAI surgery) as well? Thank you!

What about taking steps backwards towards the bed with the walker? Do you move the sore leg first also in that case? Thanks for your time.

I have two bad legs. What do I do?
@SimpleStepsMobility
@SimpleStepsMobility Год назад
This is a tough situation for a lot of people and it's difficult to solve. If you have 2 bad legs, you use the same technique. The cadence would be to advance the walker, then follow with the "worst" leg followed by the "least worse" leg. It's not uncommon that people would have 2 painful or weak legs. Many of my patients have severe arthritis in either both hips or both knees and walking is a struggle. If this is the case and walking is simply unsafe, a scooter, power chair, or manual chair should be considered if the house, insurance or finances can accommodate it.

Thanks. What I was actually looking for is how wide the walker should be. Can you help with that?

Hello T, in general walkers do not adjust for width, only height. There are some walkers that are wider to accommodate the heavier person. These are called "bariatric" walkers. Also, there are some walkers that "flare" out from front to rear, but this is just a design feature and not necessarily to accommodate the weight or build of the person. The invacare adult 2 wheel walker is one that sort of flares out. ( amzn.to/2rWkZId ) But, if the walker is too wide, it is difficult to get it through narrow doorways like those of the bathrooms. Hope that helps

Useful in the step pattern options but I could not help observing that his presentation seemed unprofessional and casual. The step sequences should been longer in duration and length. This is a “meh” walker info video.

I’m sorry that you were disappointed. But thank you for the feedback anyway.
