Always wear eye protection while using a weed whacker/eater as well as long pants and sturdy shoes or boots, as someone already mentioned. Wear hearing protection if you are using a 2 cycle engine weedwhacker. Also be careful to not endanger other people or cars nearby with flying debris you may be creating. Pay attention 👍😊

Yesssss. For example of how hard stuff hits you when your doing it…I thought I was just getting hit in the arms with debris, turns out I had upset a yellow jacket nest and was getting stung (it was about the time I was fighting them off and letting the weed eater stop that I got something shot into my eye as well cause I was dumb and not wearing eye protection (Florida humidity makes it hard sometimes)).

@@vinceliav4577 It only takes a second of carelessness to cause long term issues. The older me is more careful ☺ I use a helmet that has a face screen and hearing protectors attached for weed eater and chainsaw. Medical bills aren't cheap. Take care and God bless

I teared up and struggled not to cry watching this... my dad passed away last August and he was the one that always taught me how to do things so I would never have to rely on anyone. I had to feed line into HIS weed eater today to do my own yard for the 1st time ever (Im allergic to grass so I never had to do it) and I had no idea how because he always took care of that stuff for me. I remembered this account existed right away. This video plus all the "figure it out kid" skills my dad taught me in my life together were enough for me to work out how to do it for a weed eater not exactly like these but a little bit similar to the 1st one. Even with this being an older video, you helped me not break down today and to get it done what I needed to also. Thank you for being her for those of us without a dad to do it ❤

Thanks "Dad"! I'm one of the folks who requested this How Do I. :-) I have a Ryobi weed eater too, but a lower price point than yours (18 volt battery). My unit takes pre-filled spools of .065 line, just one line coming out not two, and it advances the line each time it stops (no bouncing). I'm learning to use it as an edger as well (turning it on its side), but that seems to use a lot more line; maybe hitting against cement chews the line up? One warning I could give is to be careful when replacing the line. Like you mentioned @18:00, it trims off any excess line first thing once you start it. When doing this, make sure that you're holding the unit away from your body (like you did). I didn't think of it, and that little piece of flying line gave me a nice cut on my leg. Nothing that a band-aid couldn't fix, but so easily avoided. And yet another reason to wear eye protection with these tools. :-)

What a coincidence! I was just talking to my own dad about his weed wacker (that's what we call "weed eaters" over here lol). Anyway, the machine broke and he went in to see if it could be repaired. The people he spoke with said it wasn't possible and that he should just buy a new one. Instead, he checked the manufacturer, went online, found the specific part that was broken and replaced it himself! Saved $150!
