I use a foam board the same size as the acrylic disc on the bottom to avoid having to remove the bottom acrylic. Also, instead of parchment paper I use press n seal to cover the top acrylic, it makes it easier to remove and gives a smother surface

Thanks for this video. I wrap the top disc in Glad Press n Seal. Firstly, I put crisco on that disc and this makes it remove easily later. I find that top of doesn’t need the extra touch up work needed if you use this method of attaching the top disc.

I do the same thing! I also use a foam board the same size as the acrylic on the bottom of the cake. This eliminates the need to remove the bottom acrylic disc.

This is exactly what I do to all my cakes 😊 love it! ! I use gladwrap and wrap the top board and smooth a big chunk of buttercream on it and then place on the cake that way my edges are sharp and I don’t need to do any extra work once I remove it.

I think it depends on the cake design and also on how smooth/sharp you can get the frosting without the discs. If you struggle with frosting then these are definitely worth it to reduce stress and get great results. Otherwise I would only use them if you were making a very elegant cake or one with a design that really requires such a polished finish

I've only tried it with American Buttercream but it should work for SMBC too, as long as you chill it before removing the top disc

I think you do just as well without the discs. I'm not a professional but I love cake, perfect edges or not. lol

I haven't tried it with SMBC but I imagine it's tricker because I don't think the frosting doesn't get as firm when it's cold

This is a device that is creating a problem where there is none. Kind of like the cake smoother device that's L shaped. What a headache ,😳😳
