Pro tip: the fist above the dash works out cause that's on average by how much your eyes are above the dash. But you can be more precise if you put the sticker precisely as much above the dash as your eyes are above it. This is more important for short and taller people. Ask me how I know 😅
@FreePilotTraining
@FreePilotTraining Год назад
I didn’t even think to mention that! 😆
@martin1blade
@martin1blade Год назад
Okay, I'll admit I'm one of those taller people and the fist just doesn't really work for me. Is there a trick to measuring how high to put the sticker?
@markor2476
@markor2476 Год назад
@@martin1blade Yes! Like I said, it's how high your eyes are above the glare shield when looking paralel to the straight and level path of the plane. So for you as you are taller it's higher, maybe a fist and a half or maybe even two, measure it!
@FreePilotTraining
@FreePilotTraining Год назад
@@martin1blade your aimpoint will be a little different. Just play with it and see what works. It shouldn’t be that big of a difference
@xrey83
@xrey83 4 месяца назад
@@markor2476isn’t the reference point just where the horizon is at when level on the ground? So just put a sticker where the horizon is at? I thought the fist reference was more for adjusting your seat height for ideal level.

Thank you Josh for another great video! I totally followed you re: the ref point needing to be lower with the flaps up...since the flaps are adding lift - almost like adding higher angle attack - with them up, you have to create you own higher AOA and the sight picture drops down to the cowling, right? I hope to start my PP training soon here in Cleveland. Thanks again! Paul
@FreePilotTraining
@FreePilotTraining Год назад
You’re welcome! Yes, when you raise your flaps you have to increase your lift by increasing your angle of attack.

Nicely done. Try using rudder only to bracket the centerline on final. A little dynamic proactive dance is fine, a TW technique but works with nose wheel as well. If we hold the target exactly, the aim point in your lesson, laterally with rudder only the wing is automatically kept level. Rudder is the gust buster. Since we don't want to turn, and we especially don't want to deal with adverse yaw on final, use the anti-turn control...the rudder. Mounted on the longitudinal axis, it provides true yaw rather than confusing adverse yaw. Not that aileron is causing you a lot of problem as you are pretty coordinated. It causes students problems such that they will get a wing wagging going that confuses them. The nose is going the wrong way before it comes back the right way to get back on target and bring the wing up. On final, I jam my thumb under one side of the yoke. When they try to bring a wing back up with aileron, they bump against my thumb and look over. I say, "Walk the rudder. Leave the aileron alone." Another technique is to take the yoke and have them use rudder only to stay aligned. Also, bracketing the centerline or aim point with rudder will find the slight crosswind you were working with. Slight crosswind is much more confusing than is strong crosswind. In a strong crosswind, they will get the bank angle set. In slight crosswind they seldom will unless we make them hold the centerline or aim point with rudder first. Then drift will show up. Good to see Claremore again. I used to patrol Explorer Pipeline from Chicago to Houston on the west side of my loop.

@xrey83

I often hear the opposite. Align with ailerons on final and use rudder to hone it in and maintain center just before touchdown to avoid side loading. I was told in the beginning I used too much rudder and would end up always trying to catch centerline
