🦷🧠 Anki is POWERFUL!! Seriously Anki is amazing, and it is made even more amazing by the many add ons you can find on Anki's website. My favorite is Anki's Image Occlusion add on. Today, I'm taking you on a complete tutorial of my usage of this add on for my Gross Anatomy course in dental school. This tutorial should be substantial and helpful, but if you have any questions or requests, just let me know in the comments!

Pro tip on getting screen shot images for mac users.... Use command+control+shift+4 when taking your screen shots. Instead of the image going to your desktop, it will copy to your clipboard, and immediately show up in IO ready to be used.

Immediately after making this video I realized I was doing it all wrong with my screenshot 😂😂 I just uploaded an Anki video today showing how I use frozen fields and I employed this “copy to clipboard tactic.” Literally so much better I can’t believe I was doing it incorrectly for so long!

One suggestion: I have a 24 inch monitor but even with it the font size seemed small. Most people view videos on their laptops which is around 15 inches, so for them the font becomes even smaller to see. So, it would be much better if you show the whole computer screen only without any background.

Hey! Great guide. The only thing I would add is that you can copy screenshots directly to your clipboard, and the new IO card shortcut will use it from there. Saves time if you're not batch editing (also, complete anatomy student license is only $35 for the 1st year).

I wonder though how you can reset that setting? I accidently clicken on change image when I was using image occlusion enhanced, and now it does not insert the image from my clipboard, but rather it goes directly to a folder on my laptop and asks me to select an image file:// cant figure out to change it back to the original IO card "insert straight from clipboard" shortcut

Thanks for the video. Just a quick question. How do you display your statistics in the main view window. I like that. My Anki does not have anything in this region below my decks. Is there a setting for it or is it a different version of Anki?

Could you please create a separate tutorial for modifying Image Occlusion Enhanced cards so that one can type in the answers? And it would be nice if you could explain the whole process step by step, and with the CSS commands appearing big and clear on the screen so that one does not have to already know CSS -- or go and learn it -- before being able to create such cards! I've searched high and low on the internet but been unable to find a resource that helps one doing this. The only RU-vid video on the topic goes too fast, and following it has only given me cards that don't work! Any help would be much appreciated -- by medical students as well as the autodidact community!

You can also click on the image when you are in the image occlusion tool and then press F, It will make the image to the right dimension

Yes you certainly can study image occlusion cards on your phone! Just make sure you allow your anki to complete a media sync so that the IO cards that you make on your computer can be downloaded into your anki mobile!

Your english is wonderful and I appreciate the question! I am not sure if you can do this but the way to check would be to look for those cards in the Browse menu. Right click one of them and see if there is a way to get back to the IO add interface from the right click drop down menu. I am sorry I don’t have a more specific answer for you, but this may get you started down the right path!

Use a basic card type and use the screenshot/copy to clipboard function to paste the picture into the BACK part of the card!

There actually is! You can simply hit command+return after creating all of your occlusion boxes and that will add the cards and close the window automatically!

x=Deck that I want , y=some random deck I used previously in IO to add cards, z=default deck (that anki creates, I dont have a default deck) Every single time I create a card with IO, it chooses a different deck instead of x. I always have to go into “added today” and change the cards individually for them to be in the place I want them to be in. How do I solve this? On the screen that you add a cards, I prehand choose deck X. Then I paste the image and right click occlude/go into image icclusion button specifically on the top and occlude. I also double check the deck destination in “fields” thing inside IO and choose deck X (30% of the times I double check it does go into deck x). No matter what, as soon as finalize my occlusion, instead of going to deck x, the cards I just made go into deck y or z. Whats the solution? This started a while ago and not recently. What do you think of redownloading the addon, does that mess with the cards I have?

Yes so this feature is supposed to be available for the image occlusion add on! It seems like right now, most everyone has lost the ability to do that just like I have but I’m sure there is an update to the add on on the way! The creators of the add on likely have discussed it on their GitHub!

You don't have to save images! If you copy an image, then open the add on tool it auto loads what was copied :)

Thanks for the comment! You have to allow your anki mobile to complete a full SYNC. Go to the bottom right of your app and hit "Synchronize" just let your phone sit there and it should at some point bring up a full media sync. Let that play out and it'll download all of your IO images into your anki mobile! Best to do this while connected to WiFi. I had this same issue when I first downloaded Anki mobile, but it clears itself up!

hey ! but when their is no text, but you want to add one. How do you do? Because all your exemple are with an image which already present the description. But if for exemple, this is a simple photo, and you want to note every things on the photo, can we do this directly with IO ? Because when we add text, and then the "IO", it make 2 differents cards ...

What I did in that case was add the text in the editor, and take a screenshot of it after doing so. Then open up that new screenshot with the names on them, adding the boxes over.

This is actually one of the default wallpapers available on Mac OS Big Sur. The wallpaper is also dynamic so it changes colors through the day!

Unfortunately, I don't think the developers of the image occlusion add on have come out with a cross platform version of it that allows it to work on the iPad. I would imagine, however, that this is a big concern for them, so I wouldn't be surprised if they released one in the future. There may be other videos on RU-vid about work-arounds for this problem. I'm sorry you're dealing with this I know how frustrating that is!

if you're on Windows, then you just need to go find the 2.1 alpha (current working version) however I don't believe add-ons are currently supported for mobile

you don't explain that much, I figured this by myself, my issue is when I encounter a problem and can't figure out how to solve it. 1) I want to use the text option to change the text image (I study in italian but all pictures I find are in english, so I need to change text), but it doesn't work, it's a mess. 2) I'd like to hide all and guess two because they are the same thing in the image but from different prospective. 3) when I add image, it doesn't add properly so I have to click again on "add image" or "change image", this happens always and is annoying as hell, time consuming

I believe that was originally an option but my version of this add on doesn't support it! You can try a quick google search with your question and you may find something about it in the anki forums or someone's GitHub! Thanks for the comment, and I hope you find what you're looking for!
