Very useful information, especially its varying properties as it starts to set. On a practical note, I had an antique dressing table that was missing one of the loop pulls. The back plate was still attached but the slender iron pull was not. I removed one of the existing pulls and made a 2 part plaster mould of it. I shellacked the mould and lay down a thin layer of the putty then placed bent coathanger wire over that, filled the other side of the mould with putty and squeezed the two parts together. After sanding and painting it was indistinguishable from the rest. That was about 40 years ago and the epoxy putty was a hardware store product. I expected to get cracking and crumbling over time, but I still can’t tell which one it is except by temperature (warmer) and weight (lighter). This newer product looks great.

Great info on the feel and timing. We used this (actually similar product) in a class with Christi Friesen. We put a small mound of it on top of a tin box then added all kinds of small metal flowers, rhinestones, lucite florals and some people added baked polymer clay pieces. They are rock solid imbedded in the apoxie.

Sounds like a fun class! Christi is a hoot, but also a great teacher. :-)

Great video Sandy - Thank you for posting your work with Aves Apoxie Sculpt! very good and informative. Some notes for your viewers: *This video is on Apoxie Sculpt we also have a different product called Apoxie Clay. *You can mix and match the Apoxie Sculpt colors together to blend any color you like, there is a color chart available for free download. * if you want to add paints Sandy mentioned acrylic paints; we agree acrylic paints make it like a chewing gum it is very sticky - a craft brand oil paint works really well for coloring using just the tiniest amount of oil paints and doesn't change the consistency ; ) *Apoxie Sculpt adheres to itself in any stage of set up so you can work in stages with ease. - again great video and thank you for your work with Apoxie Sculpt ; )

Great info, thanks for sharing! I'll keep oil paints in mind for future tinting.

@@SandyHuntress it takes 3 hours to harden? Is there a way to go back and sculpt details over it after 3?

I had just purchased a house key made with a light to see the lock at night when a few days later I dropped it and it had broken grr ! That thing cost me $5 extra , so I used this Apoxi Sculp to restructure the broken end and it's been perfect for well over 4 years on my key ring ! Great practice use too 🙂 .

Thank you Sandy, I love your teapot. I can see in future generations children are going to think that teapots are made so that we can make homes for fairies lol. I do have a couple of posh tea sets that I still use, no I'm not old or posh , just brought up in the colonies. We always used tea leaves and made our tea in a teapot and never drank it cold even though our temperatures were very high. Fancy that. Be blessed Sandy.

Thanks for the tips. I am actually using this to fill the bottom of plastic vaneer lacquered door moldings. Because once I ripped up the existing floor there ended up being a 2-2 1/2 inch gap between the bottom of the moldings and floor. Hoping this works! Thanks again. Ill post an update when finished. :)

Thanks for the video. I'm not a arts & craft type guy, but getting back into modeling after 15 years. Didn't want to go back to aircraft/armor as my build rate is about 1 model per month and worried I'd lose what modeling mojo that recently came back. Wondered & saw a lot of people who are into zombie/apocalypse dioramas and been hooked on these themes since last year. Biggest problem was figures with seams created when joining body parts together. Found 2 RU-vid videos, one which I'm using to deal with this problem using Milliput. A modeler on a modeling website said he uses this stuff on his 1/35th scale figures to fill gaps with such as between a shoulder and upper torso. What happens if you DON'T use gloves? How badly will it stick to your hands? Why wash your tools when you're done sculpting, can't you just wipe off this stuff off with a paper towel or does it really stick to the tools? As to cost, think it's going to be a better bang for your buck vs Milliput when it comes to weight vs cost.
@SandyHuntress
@SandyHuntress 7 лет назад
Hi there, your screen name cracked me up, btw! I've never used Milliput, never even heard of it, so I can't help you there. The Apoxie Sculpt WILL stick to your tools, I have bits of it all over my tools, even though I thought I wiped them off carefully while the stuff was still wet. As far as your hands, why would you want to chance having epoxy harden in your pores? I'm no fan of gloves, but I'm not going to chance it. :-) Happy creating!

This seems like just what I need to recycle pretty wine bottles into stemmed glasses. I'm now wanting to get into molten glass, but this seems like I could cut the tops off and attach to the bottom of the bottle with gold or silver painted accents into beautiful stem glasses.

Hi Sandy,, I've herd of apoxy clay, and crystal clay, the crystal clay is used for what I have seen here on you tube, camballa I've seen a ring with crystal clay, where it is mixed in two parts comes in lots of colors, as well, in the ring setting it was combed and little silver bead caps were inserted, then the crystal clay was made into tiny little balls and put into each bead cap then crystals were pressed in to that all around the ring it looked beautiful when finished its air drying also but would love to get this clay too, so I'll look around as that tea pot is amazing, I suppose too that polymers would look nice on a tea pot too all g with milk jug and sugar bowl, the ring tutorial in on you tube, it looks great🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺👍👍👍🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

Yes, the nice thing about the epoxy clay is that is doubles as a glue, so it has different possibilities from polymer.

what would happen if you used just one part of the apoxie? i tried just using the white (the part A) to see what would happen out of pure curiosity and it's been 2 days with no hardening. do you think it will still harden?
@SandyHuntress
@SandyHuntress 9 месяцев назад
That’s interesting to consider, and I always applaud curiosity. 🙂 But of course it won’t harden. Part B is the hardener. If you follow the directions it will work as expected. But who knows, once you understand how it works some experimenting may turn up surprising uses!

I notice you said you had yours since 2016 so I'm assuming it doesn't harden in the jars or over time? Could I use this to keep a pendant from flipping over to the wrong side or ro keep a pendant straight? Thanks Sandy, this was a very infornative video. Ida Rogers

Hi Ida, I’m so glad to know you found the video helpful! Thanks for the great question. 🙂 The epoxy clay gets a little stiff over time, but is still workable. Sorry, but I’m not sure what you mean by using it to keep a pendant from flipping or hanging straight.

It's definitely waterproof once cured, as it's often used in marine applications. I don't think it's particularly lightweight, though.

Is Apoxie Sculpt toxic? Does this stuff also stick to baked polymer clay? Thank you so much for making this video!
@SandyHuntress
@SandyHuntress 5 лет назад
No, it is not toxic, not that you would want to eat it, LOL. I prefer to handle it with gloves as it doesn’t seem like a good idea to have stuff that dries rock hard getting into my skin. Yes, it does stick to baked polymer clay and is a great supplement for adding strength to something you don’t want to bake again. You are welcome for the video, hope you found it helpful!

I am making a pendant and curious what the best material might be to set it on while drying. I don’t want the apoxie to glue itself onto anything in the drying proces as there is apoxie on the backside of my piece and unfortunately no way to hang it during the drying process. Would a silicone mat work?
@SandyHuntress

Yes, a silicone mat is the best thing.

Why can't you just wash your HANDS with soap and water, like you do the tools? I hate gloves, it says it's non toxic...are they REALLY necessary? Seems like you COULD get away without them.
@SandyHuntress
@SandyHuntress 6 лет назад
I'm not a fan of gloves either and avoid them whenever possible. I don't mind getting my hands messy or dirty, but the thought of having DRIED EPOXY in my pores just doesn't sound like a good or healthy thing. In the end, we all just have to do what we think is best.
