ONE THING I WAS WAITING FOR YOU TO MENTION WAS... ART RESIN IS NON-TOXIC AND FOOD GRADE. MEANING YOU CAN EAT OFF OF IT. CHILDREN CAN USE THIS PRODUCT! THOSE SPRAYS AND OTHER RESINS ARE EXTREMELY HARMFUL TO BREATHE IN AND I HAVE END STAGE COPD SO I COULDN'T USE ANYTHING OTHER THAN THIS. THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO! YOU ROCK!❤

I am actually working on some research to compare some of the popular resins people use to seal rocks because it can be a contentious conversation! lol Art Resin so far is the only one that has their safety data sheet easily accessible on their website, which I think is interesting.

@JessicaRocks
@JessicaRocks Год назад
Art Resin has pretty extensive documentation on the safety of their product and is not like a lot of the epoxy resins you may be thinking of. That being said, they recommend a respirator if your area is not well ventilated. There is zero harm in being better safe than sorry! Here's a link to their safety information: www.artresin.com/blogs/artresin/what-safety-precautions-should-i-take-when-using-artresin#:~:text=well%20ventilated%20area.-,Wear%20a%20respirator%20if%20ventilation%20is%20poor.,4236%3A%20Safe%20for%20Home%20Use.

Thank you for sharing this with us. I’m new to using resin and I was also really about using it because of people saying it’s so toxic. We have to wear a mask? Do they have resin like this that will leave a matte finish some of my painted rocks I like them to be Matte
@JessicaRocks
@JessicaRocks 3 месяца назад
I think it depends on the type of resin you use and your comfort level with the product and all its documentation. Art Resin is pretty well documented as non-toxic, but some people still choose to mask up with it. You can request a Safety Data Sheet for any product if it's not already on their website, and I advise looking at that closely! I don't know of a resin that leaves a matte finish...that would probably be more of a spray or brush on sealer.

@Jessica Rocks when you did resin the second time on the backs of the ones that had the drips, did you just put a little bit of resin over where those drips were? Or did you reresin the whole Rock again? I just ordered my first art resin and it should be here tomorrow. And I'm kind of freaking out a little bit about using it, lol. Is there any drawback to First resonating the top of the rocks, and then once that's dry, resenting the bottoms?
@JessicaRocks
@JessicaRocks 2 месяца назад
When I redid it, I went back and did the whole rock! I always do the whole rocks with Art Resin since I apply it with gloves. When I do UV Resin that cures with UV light, I do each side separately because the side facing down wouldn't cure. My best advice is that a little goes a long way...if you use too much, that's when it pools and creates those ridges.
@user-zp6jh3mr9v
@user-zp6jh3mr9v 11 месяцев назад
I have a question about "too much" resin and the self-levelling or ridge consequence ... I watched how you worked quickly with the rock in your gloved hands and only a drop or two ... yet the problem still occurred for one of your rocks. How do you think I can avoid that? should I just try to be really confident with a scant amount and roll it over and over with less than a couple drops?
@JessicaRocks
@JessicaRocks 10 месяцев назад
You really only need to dip your finger in the resin and then roll it around in your hands. The times when I got the ridges are my own fault for getting overzealous and adding extra on top because I want it to be super shiny! lol Or if there's just a tiny bit left in the cup and I don't want to waste it so I add extra. You're more at risk if you add extra to rounded rocks where gravity is going to take it down, but if they are more flat, you might stand a better chance!

@JessicaRocks Год назад
That's a really good question. In general, I have felt quite safe with Art Resin because it is uniquely non-toxic (unlike a lot of epoxy resins) when used as directed and has up to date safety data sheets and documentation on their website where I've been unable to find that for some other products. That is not to say it hasn't been on my mind and I have been thinking about doing a little research for a video to show people what they should be looking for as far as product info and how the respirators protect. Better safe than sorry is always a good rule of thumb!

@JessicaRocks

I just recently brought home some rocks I had at our family cemetery plot that had the same exact issue (it was before I started using resin, and to be fair, they're in direct sunlight from sun up to sun down). I have a couple large rocks on our front porch that have been sealed with resin (one for about 2.5 years, one for about 9 months) and both of them are holding up well! It's hard to say, because most of the rocks I hide, get picked up and taken and not necessarily sit in the same spot. But I think in general resin holds up quite a bit better!

What kind of paint glitter ✨ do u use
@JessicaRocks
@JessicaRocks 2 года назад
The most common thing in my collection is the Folk Art Extreme glitters that you can get at Walmart and Michaels. The one I probably use the most is the Folk Art Extreme Hologram Glitter because it goes with anything. I also love the Folk Art Dragonfly Glaze...it's a really fine glitter that is super pretty and sparkly!

The resin is a pretty awesome sealer but I've only ever used it with acrylic, watercolor or alcohol inks. I do a light spray sealer over watercolor and alcohol inks before resinong to prevent any smearing!

@JessicaRocks

Oooh, this is not something I've ever done. My best guess is that you would need a silicone mold for the "cube" part, and you might have to do the resin in stages so the rock doesn't sink into it and stays suspended in the middle.

It's not necessarily weird. You may have mixed it so carefully that you didn't have bubbles! And even if you moved the resin around with a straw, the Art Resin is self-leveling and it will level out on it's own as it cures!

I have started trying to use resin on my rocks. I put them on a silicon mat to cure, but when I lift them off the mat there seems to be no resin on the bottom of the rock. What might I be doing wrong?
@JessicaRocks
@JessicaRocks 4 месяца назад
My first thought is to ask what side of the silicone mat is facing up--the shiny or the dull side? if you have the dull side up, it "dulls" the resin a little so it might look like there's none there. Make sure you're rubbing your hands over the whole rock before setting it down on the shiny side of the mat!

@JessicaRocks
@JessicaRocks Год назад
You could, but I feel like it would take forever...resin one side, cure for 3 days...resin other side, cure 3 more days. The key to not getting that lip is to use less resin so it doesn't pool. It really barely takes any to get the shine!

@JessicaRocks
@JessicaRocks 3 года назад
I will have to look for the papers that come with it, but I don't think it can dry in any kind of extreme heat or cold. I have them inside my house, and have never cured them outside because they would almost surely collect dust or some other fun element. Sometimes I aim a little desk fan at them (not entirely sure that helps anything move faster! lol). I know some artists put them in plastic tubs that have covers if they have a pet hair concern, which I have not done, but I'm considering since we have a lot of dust where I live!

I bought silicone mats. but after couple of times using resin, i have hundred of small drips of resin on the mats. they are too small & numerous to use fingernails to remove. When i did another batch, some of the drips stuck to the bottom of the new batch! SOS - how do i remove those small drips from mats?
@JessicaRocks
@JessicaRocks 3 года назад
Walmart! Have had this happen before too, but the little pieces that stuck to the new rocks came off really easily so that was on way. I have also used the scrubby side of a sponge to remove it and other times it's just patience and picking. It might help to use slightly less resin on the rocks to avoid the drips, too. A little bit of that stuff really does go a long way!

@JessicaRocks not uv resin. Instructions say it will cure completely in 3 days. I was very careful measuring. I used 2 separate medicine cups and poured them each into a larger container. I set a timer for stirring. I'm going to try again when I get time. I really want to get this to work. I think the resin sealed stones are beautiful.
@JessicaRocks
@JessicaRocks 10 месяцев назад
@deanafowler6210 so I think where the exact measuring may have gone awry is when pouring the medicine cups into a larger container. Any little but of hardener or resin left behind could throw off the balance. Simxe you need so little, I just mix mine in one cup. I will fill to the 5 or 7.5 mark with one and then on top of that with the other to get to 10 or 15. And then I mix right in that cup and make sure to scrape the sides and ensure that part gets mixed in too!

This particular brand (Art Resin) is non-toxic and can be used inside. If you go on their website, they have a pretty extensive explanation of their "safeness" when it's used as directed. There ARE a lot of resins that you do need to do outside and with fancy masks, so that is one of the major selling points of this one.
