This week's ResinTip is all about keeping your hands clean while working with Epoxy Resin.
Of course the best line of defense is to wear gloves and have multiple pairs available in case things get messy.
But what do you do if you get a little bit (or a lot) on you hands? Well, Joanne is here with a couple of helpful hints to take care of business.
For more information, see our blog "How To Clean Resin From Your Hands":

This is my first time using resin to decorate a phone case for my mom. At first I did use gloves to pour the resin. But since it’s hard put the charms with gloves on, I removed them and I got resin on my fingers. Initially I used soap + warm water as mentioned in the resin box, but the resin went all over my hands and got very sticky. Then I tried vinegar + cloth and it did not work as well. Later I learned that these are the worst way to clean resin off skin. I tried many different methods but it still feels sticky, and I panicked. I then come across the video and tried the salt + cooking oil method and it worked great. Thanks for this video.

Soap and water are fine for getting a little bit of resin off however for big bits you need some sort of exfoliant. I hope you used a respirator mask when working with resin too.

Yes it does, however we do not recommend this as the alcohol will dissolve the resin and make it easier for your skin to absorb, so it is best to avoid if possible.

Can we use any dishwah and the table salt that we use at our home
@Artresin
@Artresin Месяц назад
Any dishwash liquid will work, but if you can find coarse salt, it works better than regular table salt which tends to dissolve quickly. That's why poppy seeds are a good alternative. But I've been using this method lately - rubbing a little bit of vegetable oil in my hands to dissolve the resin first - and then I follow up with warm water and dishwash liquid. It works really well and you don't need salt or poppy seeds :)

Me, who used 99% alcohol to remove it and just searching for what to do afterwards 🤣. It was only a little bit tho from removing my gloves. There doesn’t seem to be any residue and otherwise.. I’ve just eaten with them. Maybe my safe was washing my hands first, then using alcohol as a “just in case” (I have pets at home, so I didn’t want to bring it back with me).

Hi there - I've done it in the past too - and you're probably just fine if you do this once or every now and again - but definitely not something that should be a standard practice. This is particularly of concern for those who may be prone to a resin sensitivity or allergy, since it's triggered by (repeated) exposure.

Removing from clothing can be tough!! I would try saturating the area with isopropyl alcohol to try to dissolve as much as you can, then scrub with detergent to see if that worked to remove the spot. Do this quickly before the epoxy has a chance to cure, once it cures I'm afraid it is there permanently and you just got a new pair of resining clothes ;)

@Artresin

You are correct, putting resin down the drain is not recommended. When washing your hands with soap and warm water to get the sticky residue off of your hands, it is not the same as actually pouring resin down the drain, which we do not recommend.
