Today we will be showing you how to use a USB memory stick to update the BIOS on the ASUS ROG Strix B550-A Gaming motherboard.
It is a pretty easy thing to do, but you have to do it right!
I'll walk you through the process of finding and downloading the BIOS file, preparing the USB stick and how to use the BIOS flashback button.
Also some useful fault finding tips and tricks we have picked up over the years.

You can always rely on Mike for a usb flash back step by step. It might not be your motherboard, but it's definitely someones motherboard! These videos helped me alot when I bought my MSI b550 tomahawk, legend... cheers..

Been trying to update for the past few days, used maybe 4 different sticks, I’ve heard usb 2.0 is preferred, I’ve done every other step when installing correctly, should I just buy another stick on amazon? Light stays solid on every single stick

is it on a bare board? have you double checked you are using the right BIOS version and named correctly

@@mikesunboxing i actually ended up just manually updating from a stick in bios since it failed so many times, it worked out with that method, my flashback reader might just be defective

A tip for b550i owners you need a cpu mounted to flash bios unlike some other boards. Cpu not matter new or old.

I often wonder to myself if you can use the Bios USB port for regular Devices in Windows, Have you tried it out at all?

yes the port works as a normal USB port when not being used as a flashing port

there isn't much to show to be honest. You can have both types on the same drive if you like, it won't harm the drive or make the flash not work

I updated my B550-A just last week to the latest bios. Asus's default settings are absolutely garbage. I was down almost 3,000 points on Cinebench R23.

yeah the BIOS defaults usually are optimistic or set for stabilty rather than performance

I tried everything step by step. I also tried flashback and through bios and I'm having no luck. It keeps telling me this is not a bios file but it's the one I downloaded from Asus for my motherboard and I extracted and renamed the file and put it on my USB after formatting it to a FAT32.

I bought this motherboard yesterday, and I see an orange dram diode on the board, don't know what to do with it, shouldn't I update the bios?

no take out the RAM and try one stick at a time in slot 2, one might be faulty or just not seated right. If it was a bios thing it would hang on CPU
