I've been using pickle forks. And they've sucked. They not only destroyed a part I wasn't planning on replacing, but I ended up using my jack and the weight of the car while hammering on the side of the knuckle until it finally came unstuck. But I was too stubborn to use fluid.

Great video. Gave me the direction on which tool to get for our Odyssey. This tool was a life saver. Popped the ball joint loose in about two minutes. It also worked on the tie rod end of my 07 Odyssey as well. Getting the bearing out of the spindle, well that's another story. It was so rusted in there that the bearing puller/press tool cup that you place on the outside bent the spindle lip as I was trying to press it out. Replacement spindle will be here on Thursday. Hopefully it goes back together much easier than this disassembly has been.

will this type of separator compromise the rubber boot? I don't need to replace the ball joint but I do need to separate the control arm from the steering knuckle.

Thanks! That clears up something I was wondering about, that is, should I avoid PB Blaster right on the rubber boot. So the silicone WD40 will be what I use. And spraying it on the tool as well, great idea!

Whats the point, you see how easy it is with this inexpensive tool. Using a hammer makes a ton of noise, kicks brake dust in the air, takes a toll on your hands, etc.

Honestly, it's what I've done in workshops most my life. Just leave the nut on top loose, strike the side of the hub section where the ball joint slips in, and it'll pop most of the time in a single hit.
@ObscureStuff420
@ObscureStuff420 Год назад
I've been hitting mine with a BFH and using a pickle fork and it won't come loose. Picked one of these up today for 35 bucks and will try it out tommorow. I'm not going to dick around hammering and cursing if a small amount of money will stop the frustration, I'm still saving way more than a professional would charge.

suddenly my garage door will not close anymore when pressing the button in my honda odyssey. is there a small battery to change in the honda for the overhead buttons? sorry this question is unrelated to your video and extremely stupid i know. any chance its the honda or should i focus on the garage door itself. thank you

No, the homelink is directly connected to 12V, no battery
@MrRangerZr1
@MrRangerZr1 5 лет назад
Most likely you'll have to replace the overhead assembly. As, Christopher said, the homelink is always hot, no matter what. Is it blinking red? If so, try relearning the garage opener.

This tool works well for Odyssey. Won't work for 2012 Accord because the fork diameter is too small and the fork is a bit too thick to insert in. Any suggested tool for Accord? Honda's 28mm tool is very expensive.
@MrRangerZr1
@MrRangerZr1 4 года назад
Yeah accords have the wishbone setup. I don't like hitting suspension components to loosen things but you can try it. Don't hurt yourself. Or go to autoparts store and rent the tool.

@@MrRangerZr1 Right, I never had luck whacking. Honda specifically says not to bang on anything. I ended up getting it off by using a pickle fork but damaged the boot in the process. Learned how to replace ball joint boot as bonus.
