Bed bug covers or encasements are essential tools for anyone seeking to control and eliminate a bed bug infestation, as they’ll entomb existing bed bugs and prevent new infestations from reaching protected mattresses and box springs.
Proper use of bed bug covers and control methods will save you money by acting as your mattress or box spring’s new exterior layer, but if you still decide to throw out your bed, always encase them to prevent your infestation from spreading.
Remove any and all bedding, covers, pillows, or other loose articles from your mattress or box spring. Stand your mattress or box spring up against the wall with the head-end upright.
Remove the bed bug cover from the package and unzip it. Fit the cover over your mattress or box spring from the top and slide it down.
Zip the cover as far as you can get it, lay the mattress or box spring down, then finish zipping. If your bed bug cover features a zipper housing, then shut the zipper tab within the housing to ensure a complete seal. Once you’re done, you can make up your bed as normal.
