I apologize for being a downer here but I would like give you a little constructive advice. I refinish furniture for a living, including Antiques. If you had tinted the primer the same tint as your paint, or close to the color, you could have helped that stain blocker save you from applying an additional coat of paint. I also see you using way too many small/short brush strokes with the paint and sealer. I hope you can understand I had to learn by trial and error as well. Love your work though and I admire what you are bringing to RU-vid. God Bless

There are so many different techniques and each painter tends to have their own habits and ways of doing things. Maybe she did not tint the primer because Bin is shellac based while the paint is ceramic based? Whatever the reason, I’m not sure how constructive your advise is.

Oh my goodness, this piece turned out so SO BEAUTIFUL! One thing that I’d like to caution you about! As a 65 year old mother of 2 and grandmother of 5. Please PLEASE don’t go to peoples home by yourself that you don’t know!! I’ve heard on the news one to many horror stories of people being tricked into a home and terrible things happening to them! Be safe and always be extremely cautious!! I don’t want anything happening to our furniture flipping teacher!! ❤️

I have an antique vanity my grandfather I never met gave my uncle to specifically give to me from him. It’s precious to my heart and my first and only gift from him. I never met him but i cherish his gift dearly and its wood is peeling and there are some chips in the wood. I want to restore it myself. If I can’t then I will hire someone else but I’d like to at least give it a try Thank you for this video ❤

AMAZING! It turned out so well. I did a navy desk for my dad. He needed a desk that he could put his wheelchair under. I found an antique table that was probably used in an entryway. I ended up staining the top and doing the rest in the color "In the Navy" by Dixie Belle. He loves it and I kept looking at it and saying, I did that!

I found this so satisfying (especially on the side) as I’ve often wondered about the beautiful pieces that have a story of abuse. Thank you for your complete explanations and especially your “hack” ideas! Normally I love it when you expose the wood in more places but this one needed a hug of primer and paint all over.😁 Today I learned the benefits of using ceramic based paint and that it takes many hours of work to restore these gorgeous pieces. Thanks❣️

Beautiful piece, Lauren!! Love the navy and wood stained bottom combo. I agree, definitely would’ve gone with gold, especially with that gorgeous navy and wood combo. BUT, it’s what the client wanted. One of my first commissioned pieces ended up taking 3Xs longer on what should’ve been pretty straight forward bc I ran into unexpected issues. Lesson learned on setting a fixed price before getting the piece and really knowing what I was dealing with. Love your videos!💜

I actually love this. Thank you for posting this as this is exactly what I needed. I brought a depression era vanity and armoire back from my late mother's home that belonged to her parents and it is in about as tough shape, perhaps a little worse, than this piece was. I knew I was going to need to do some wood filling, sanding, and ultimately paint but wasn't sure which products to work with, and I was ideally going to replace the hardware as it's a burnished black, but most of the hardware in my home is silver -- but now seeing the rub and buff, this is what I'll go with to restore the hardware too and keep it all original. Your piece turned out fantastic and I hope in time mine will as well!

Such a wonderful piece and you did a great job with it, Lauren! You mentioned it was commission piece. I typically am not a fan of gold, but I think gold hardware would've really popped against the navy. It makes sense that your client wanted to change the hardware color in order to stick with a color already used in other pieces within their living space. Uniformity makes sense. Either way, the unloved, forgotten piece now looks stunning and will once again be a part of someone else's life. That's a definite win for you, your client and this awesome dresser!

I just did a mcm set that is this same color combo. I used fusion in ash. It looked dark gray in the can but came out deep navy like yours. I used fusions hemp and beeswax on the whole thing to seal it instead of a traditional top coat. That wax was AMAZING on the wood I will say for your info because I think it will save you time and you can use it all over on dark colors 😉. I hate sanding more on a wood base after I painted a dark color close to it. I had to do the same as you too. I like how you tried a new brand and color. Great job!!

@empressche333
@empressche333 2 года назад
There are several types of bleed through..wood tannins from certain wood species; certain clear finishes create bleed through as they break down; and then there is embedded nicotine from long term abuse from smokers. All of which need to be blocked from bleeding into your paint layer.

I personally like the cool of the silver with a dark navy but I agree, it depends on what your client's current color/metal theme is in their home. I am not completely sold on rub and buff yet, have only worked with ebony and found adherence issues with it but for spot fixes it is awesome. I had chosen oil rubbed bronze fixtures in the bathroom and had to tone down some of the "copperish bronze' accents on the pieces, worked well. Thank you for the explanation for the bondo choice, I need to pick some up tomorrow for a trim piece repair.

Love you channel. I, too, find Howard’s restore refinish excellent to give life to old pieces. Curious what you used to sand the legs before applying the Howard’s with a steel wool pad? Thank you! Kristan

Thanks for yet another awesome video! I have a couple of questions. First, with the damage that this dresser had, would it have been possible to use some type of clear shellac to block out the water stains, bondo, etc, then stain it (as opposed to painting) without those things popping through? Second, did you choose to use the wax on the drawers, rather than the restore product, simply because it provided a more durable finish? They looked absolutely gorgeous after that application and I couldn't believe what a difference it made! I'm just wondering if the same look could have been achieved by using the other product. Thanks again for all of the support and inspiration!

Good video! For the drawer pulls, I would have tried "gold-rose".
