It should go in a dark location, not sunny. Also use a piece of parchment paper under a metal lid.

You bring up good points here. I'm not aware of damage that would occur from the sun for the amount of time I suggest (provided it's not in extreme heat), and from what i understand, cold infusions take longer. I can see an argument for both, though!

Cool video! I already bought some calendula seeds to try to start early indoors for next spring so I can make my own salve. I have already done that with a few native plants, like I’ve harvested young plantain leaves to infuse in olive oil. I’ve got some infused oil going now with mullein flowers too.

Hi i must say that your video is timely and very informative. Thank you for taking the time to teach us. I would like to ask though, can i just use shea butter for the salve? I have lots of shea butter and years of experience with it; however, i notice that almost all the salves requires bees wax. Can i use shea butter instead of bees wax?
@TrueFreedomPermaculture
@TrueFreedomPermaculture Год назад
Thank you, I'm glad you found it so! I have never omitted beeswax, so I can't tell you from personal experience, but if you do choose to omit it there are a couple of possible outcomes 1.) The salve might be more liquid than normal and 2.) The beeswax helps to hold the moisture in your skin, acting as a barrier. Therefore, it might not be quite as effective but you could give it a try and see if it works!

This was a lovely video! I'm planning on buying some dried calendula flowers(not really able to plant it anytime soon rn) so I've been watching lots of oil infusing videos. I've seen some where they blend the dried flowers until ground for the infusion but some where they use just the whole flower, like yourself. I tried googling which is more effective but couldn't find an article about it so I was curious what your thoughts were? Thank you for this great content! I look forward to seeing more videos from you
@TrueFreedomPermaculture
@TrueFreedomPermaculture Год назад
Thank you for your kind words! I'm glad you liked it! That's a really good question. I suppose you could pulverize the flowers a bit, as long as they don't become so small the infusion becomes difficult to strain. When cooking with herbs, they say keeping them whole and intact until you're about to use them will help preserve their potency. So, I do understand the logic behind blending them. All I can say is I use the calendula salve quite a bit, and it has been effective enough for us without blending them prior to infusing.

Great video 👍just a few tips: the easyest way to get label glue off of jar is by makeing a paste with bakingsoda and any cheap oil smear it on jar , let sit for 10 mins then wipe off ( some times you may need to lightly scrub with steel wool pad ) this is the easiest method iv found by far . Also if you melt your bees wax and hard oils first befor adding infused oil it is less time your infused oil is heated up for in case the plant constitutes or oil is heat sensitive.

Can you substitute emulsifying wax for beeswax?
@TrueFreedomPermaculture
@TrueFreedomPermaculture Год назад
Personally, I would steer clear of emulsifying wax. I wasn't familiar with it, so I looked it up. It appears to contain some synthetic chemicals I would prefer not to use on my skin. Beeswax is a more natural alternative.

@@adriankap2978 Hi Adrian, Happy New Year to you as well. I'm waiting on my fresh herbs for this year to start testing now that I have my bases/jars ready for other types of skin/health products but, the butter infusions were crazy good. I bought this one: Magical Butter Machine MB2E Butter Maker Herb Infuser Gummy Maker Machine with Cookbook Included on Amz ($200). If it can infuse the butter, I have no reason to doubt that it will infuse other oils and the controlled heat won't destroy the benefits of the herb/base. The infuser is also easy to use/clean & came with nice add-ons and gives some tips that can apply to other types of creations. I thought the $200 was worth the processing time speed and I also like that I didn't have to babysit the temperature/process. Hope you find this helpful.

Can you help me understand the difference between picking them fresh and drying them as opposed to picking them later when they have dried up on the stem?
@TrueFreedomPermaculture
@TrueFreedomPermaculture 3 месяца назад
I guess my initial thought is I'm not patient enough to wait until they have all dried! In my experience, the blooms don't all dry at once, so that's why I would rather pick them; so I know I'll have a large batch of dried blooms.

If you add tea tree oil to this would it prevent mold and or bacteria during the infusion process? if so how much tea tree should 1 use?
@TrueFreedomPermaculture
@TrueFreedomPermaculture 7 дней назад
Good question. I haven't added tea tree oil, so unfortunately I can't give you an answer but I'm not aware of a reason why you couldn't try it. Since it's going on your skin, you wouldn't want to add too much since tea tree oil can be an irritant. I think as long as you make sure your calendula is completely dry, and any containers you use for infusion are completely sterilized and dry, you wouldn't need the tea tree oil.

Although I picked the calendula, I did let it dry out completely. Dried is better. You want the least amount of water possible, so it doesn't spoil.

See, my problem is that one say put the jar to the sun, the other say put it to a dark cool place. The olive oil is sensitive to light. That is why comes in the dark bottle. Under the sun the oil brakes down or go bed is it not? Please somebody explain this to me. Thanks.
@TrueFreedomPermaculture
@TrueFreedomPermaculture 6 месяцев назад
Thank you for asking this, as I've had the same question myself! Olive oil does have a shelf life, and exposing it to sunlight will cut down on that shelf life. That being said, I would start with a new, unopened bottle of olive oil when you infuse it with the calendula. That way, the olive oil shouldn't go rancid within that short period of time.

@adriankap2978
@adriankap2978 6 месяцев назад
Hi. Something that we found that works to get rid of acne is to cut out all dairy, cheese, milk, whey protein powder included, etc. Read product labels to make sure. if you have allergies, that will almost completely eliminate all allergies to include flowers, tree etc with pollen. My nephew had horrible acne growing up and my sister & bro in law spent $20K going from dr to dr seeking a reason. Finally found a holistic specialist and prescribed dairy elimination. It took about 6 weeks but my nephew was like a whole new kid when it cleared up. This was back in the early to mid 1970’s so 20K then is probably 80K+ today. It’s worth a try. Hope it helps.

@TrueFreedomPermaculture
@TrueFreedomPermaculture 11 месяцев назад
Personally, I have never used an essential oil in this because I love the subtle floral smell and the scent of the olive oil! But, if you wanted to add an essential oil, you could probably add a touch of lavender or rose. It would keep with the floral theme and both of those essential oils are good for the skin.
