Hi Megan, you should click the text tool and will be able to type whatever you want. The mouse rollover feature is only for most common elements used in chem draw. Hope that works!
@aws2353 : there's a tool for lone pairs (dots) - about half way down the toolbar, same button as the positive and negative charge - but select either a radical or lone pair. it's a little tricky to use... just choose the lone pair tool then click on the atom on which to place the lone pairs, and while holding down the mouse button, position the lone pair where you want it and then let go. it doesn't always turn out that great but it's there. thanks!
@darylldevera : good question, daryl - it's tricky every time i do it. i use the pen tool but it's pretty much trial and error. i used a tutorial on how to handle the "handles" (google "pen tool tutorial illustrator harry" and it's the first hit . if anyone else has tips, please share! if i get more comfy with it, i'll post another vid. ; ) thanks!
hi there, 1st let me thank you for the tutorial ... now to my problem: i have the mac version of this software and i have no problem drawing structures, etc, but for some reason, i can not add any symbols what so ever! is there a library or some file that i am missing?? why won't it allow me to enter atoms, etc..??? if you can help i'd greatly appreciate it. :)
Ganesh, you can use the select tool, copy in ChemDraw and paste into Word - should be easy. For a while I had trouble in this on old version of Word for Mac (maybe 2012 version?) but recently I got a new MacBook and used Word 2016 with ChemDraw 16 and it works now. Maybe it has to do with the version or a reinstall may help. Otherwise I was doing screenshots from ChemDraw and inserting those into Word... not a great work around but that was a quick solution (save the ChemDraw files in case you want to edit later). When it works it’s great though - I hope you can figure it out.
@@jenniemayer The other way is when you finish doing the chem structures, just go to >>> Save as >>> TIFF format and save it. >>>>Open the source file copy and paste or input into word file. Hope this will add to your comment for Ganesh Khanna
Half of what you say is "supposed" to be available to us on the menus ISN'T! How the hell are we supposed to do most of this garbage when we don't have the basic tools available to us through the McGraw-Fecking-Hill web-site???
I'm really sorry Carla, but I have a full version of Chem Draw and using a Mac, both of which could be why your Chem Draw looks different - maybe McGraw Hill has a special version for their customers. Also I made this video back in 2011! I'm sure a lot of things have changed. Wish I could have been more helpful.
