I've taught myself Reupholstery over the last 5 year's and have a small Reupholstery business. And all the tips you've shown(being a professional) I'm so happy with myself that I actually do all these tricks. Something I learned in this video is to purchase a regulator. I was using a flat head screw driver for hot glue mistakes or tucking the hot glue back into the piping. I didnt even know regulators were a thing!

Thanks a lot. This is really helpful and it’s exactly what I was looking for. I am reupholstering the seat on a Gustavian daybed and I didn’t know what exactly to do next.

Hi, a tip with removing 'hot glue' is using a cloth dampened with thinner, always test an off cut first.

Excellent info, thanks for sharing. Possibly another video could show how to bring together the ends of the double welt on the arms, inner back, or outer back of this piece please? Thank you! :)

Thank you so much for that, I have been using fabric glue, I'm not sure I have the confidence to use a glue gun as I usually make a mess. I didn't know you could purchase an industrial one, something for me to look into. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge and experience.

Thanks for the words of wisdom & experience. What about using decorative tacks spaced out about 2 inches apart? Is that a result of a time period or from a fad? I will be putting gimp trim on tomorrow. It reminds me of putting pin stripe on a car.

is there any other adhesive you would suggest to apply trim to a chair that has faux leather on it? Someone suggested to me to not use hot glue due to it might melt the fabric. thanks

ive just got some old (maybe Heppelwhite?) dining chairs from an estate sale and the trim (gimp) is coming off. The condition of the gimp is very good and not damaged and I was thinking about reattaching it with my fabric glue, but i was wondering if I need to do something to remove the old adhesive (which looks brown/ darkened now), should i just try and stitch it back on by hand? Im also planning on getting a professional cleaner to come and give them a good cleaning (some minor staining, mostly just smells really dusty). Is it recommended to have them clean first and then do the repair? I never thought trim would be so confusing for me. These will likely become a project as some of the lacquer is coming off the chairs (a little sticky to the touch, even after wiping down). Advice would be appreciated!

What do you think of using an awl in place of a regulator?

is it possible to used trim instead along the edges of of furniture? I'm trying to fix up an old fainting chair that i got from a garage sale. it had a gimp trim originally but the edges of the seat were very well loved by the claws of the previous owner's cat and i can't find a new gimp trim to match the old one (where it's still in good condition). I did find a wide Jacquard ribbon that matches the chair's fabric and the old gimp very well and can hide the damaged edges of the original fabric. my only problem is that the top of the ribbon will overlaps the cushioned part of the seat and I'm not sure if i can use hot glue to keep that in place or if i need to carefully sew that top edge in place.
