Thank you so much for sharing this informative tutorial. While looking for alternatives to replacing the cane on my chairs. The reupholster approach just might be the best route for me.

Hi Kevin 😉 so...I was wondering if you will have a video of doing the seat of a dining chair? I am recycling 8 dining chairs that a neighbor who was wanting to throw them out..the "bones" are in excellent shape however..the material and padding is in need of a "facelift" ☺️ I took off several staples of of the first chair ..."whew" . Unfortunately under all the previous attempts of previous re~upholstering the seat base is made out of...😮 Particle board 😭 so I've just finished making the seat base out of some sheets of plywood 3/4 inch ...it's just what I had in my grage, which was easier than pulling all of those staples! I used jigsaw..after cutting the bases square..I used a jigsaw to "shape as these chairs have a unique beautiful curvy shape.😁 So it would be lovely to see how you'd do a dining chair.. especially the "base". 😉😉

This is a great video, thank you. Doing my mom's dining chair back has been a challenge until I saw this video that uses webbing instead of reusing the piece of plywood that came with the chair. The only thing I would suggest is that you cut the fabric back a bit larger than the foam, then fold the fabric a bit when stapling over the foam. This avoids having to cut the extra fabric and having to tuck the frayed hem inside the seam, both time intensive steps. Our chair backs turned out beautifully! Thanks again for this video.

You might want to watch the video before this one before commenting on the size of the fabric. I might suggest just saying thank you rather than critique a master upholsterer when he takes his time to make a video too.

How much extra material should I order when doing an upholstery job. I am doing 8 dining room chairs. Antique top and bottom box cushion with piping at top and bottom and back of chair. Just a round about I got 16 1/2 yards plus 4 yard of different fabric for the back of the tops. Chair bottom and top measure about 22 by 22 in fabric.

In part one you mentioned the use of tacks prior to staple guns. What was used for the attaching of piping prior to glue guns?
