After a heck of a long time searching tutorials, these ones are the clearest, most concise yet. If this is what you are doing, follow these instructions! I worked in art dept on some decent sci fi and horror movies and these videos refreshed what Id forgotten :) Thanks for posting!
Hey nice video. I was wondering how you finished the piece after polishing it. Did you remove the top and bottom pieces of acrylic sheet? If so, how would you do this with out damaging the casting? Also in your opinion would it possible to cast a block thats 1 foot square in Polyester Resin? Just use very little catalyst and let it cure for two weeks?
I've been given a small item to be encapsulated to make into an award trophy. I was going to do this myself but after watching your excellent videos and the tools required its obvious I need a professional to do a decent job. Do you know of any one who can do this for me? Ray
Do you know if ice resin and amazing clear cast are just expensive brands of what you are using? The other question, is epoxy the same as polyester resin and if not which is a stronger material?
how durrable are these moulds I am wanting to make a gift for a friend of mine and it would need to be extremely durrable and how large of a mould (or cast I'm not entirely familiar with the terminology ) would you say is possible
you can use anything hes referring to a shop setting needing to be trained by superviser. you may also use hand saws or a grinder with a cutting disk some cutting methods just may leave more work in the buffing stage i would sugest a 30$ hand grinder and you can switchfrom cutting wheel to sanding/buffing pads.
I really enjoyed watching your encapsulation demo - thank you for sharing your expertise M (The background drums drive me to distraction, though, I have to say. Almost as irritating as when I’m sitting in the car and my sister leaves the drivers seat, shutting off the car but leaving the keys in the ignition, where they continue to make an absolutely super-irritating dinging noise incessantly, ad nauseum, until I rip them out and toss them on the dashboard! PLEASE use some soft music or even no added sounds other than the sounds created by what you’re doing as the drumming was super annoying to the point where I almost stopped watching your presentation entirely. Again, thanks for sharing - I’m learning a lot by watching these demos!Happy 2023! 😊🙏🏼💕
Check your data sheets. it should say if its a polyester resin. MEKP catalyst it comes with it. Epoxy (polyepoxide) resin is usually used only in thin layers (like on boat interiors). Polyepoxide is different to polyester. Epoxy resin is stronger, but is more expensive and more harmful than polyesters. I like to keep my exposure of polyepoxides and polyurethanes to an absolute minimum when casting. Just use polyesters or bio resins. See my website for more info at castingabout.co.uk
RICHOCOARM too late for the comment. i bought easycast epoxy resin instead works better but now got a new problem which is the mould has become dull and the cast turn out quite dull instead of crystal clear. plus i can see some kind of marks or pinholes on the resin cast but cant spot anything inside the mould.
My experience with sticky clear resin after 48 hours is that I didn't mix exact amounts, and this stuff is finicky! It requires stirring slowly and making sure it is completely mixed. I stir 10 x clock direction and then 10x anti clock direction. If I'm not completely satisfied Ill do this 5 more times. Hope that helps
"To use this machine, you need to be trained and certified by the wood work technician" Am I the only one who LOL'd at that? We were using those in our grade 7 shop class at 12 years old. Also, anyone can buy those machines for their home use just like buying a jug of milk except bigger. No one asks for your credentials. Maybe if your going to use the tools at place of business and they are worried about liability that you would have to be "Certified" to use basic shop tools. Sorry, just sounded funny.
i thought it was a joke too, could be he didn't wanna be liable for some dumbfuck who took it for granted and got hurt maybe? like a stupid way to say "don't say i didn't warn ya!"? i have no idea, but still, wow
hi, i appreciate your video but wanted to offer some constructive advice. i found the music, plus the words, plus the visual, plus the voice over too too much. i'm dyslexic and simply couldn't make sense of all four different inputs at once. if you wanted to add words to the screen to support those hearing impaired i think it would be really helpful if they were the same as the words spoken, and the 'music' is simply not necessary, its just irritating! despite these things i have learnt from your video, thanks.
RICHOCOARM hello, I am very new to Kathleen. Can you please tell me the ratio of the catalyst to the resin? I'm trying to basically use the resin as a glaze for my jewelry
