Trying to figure out how to incorporate colors in collage can be challenging if you’re not confident with introducing colors in your creations. So how do you get more confident with using colors? I’ve got an exercise in boosting color confidence, and I’m hoping you will want to play along with me.
How can you use these types of colorful collages? You can incorporate them in your junk journals or scrapbooking projects.

Love your art.. I think this is a great jumping off point to learn about color theory and people can become comfortable with monochromatic schemes following this exercise. But 'mastery'? Hmmm....

I accidentally bought a whole bunch of postcards that were paint chips. I had an option to choose what I wanted and somehow I didn't see that the paint chips were the ones checked. I was disappointed but thought they would still be useful, so thanks for this great tutorial in giving me some ideas!!

Of 4 blocks: the 3rd one with blank spot is a good wring place The plane block I think is in the right position and not up side down. The stamp one, the postal stamp is always on the right. T.Y. for sharing your talent. 👏👏

Hello, I love this exercise! Without a doubt, you are my favorite teacher! Just one question: if you have a piece that you would love to put on the chip, would it be considered cheating to ink it up on an edge, for example, to make it work?

No, it's not cheating at all. If you like that style of inking the edges of papers, then you can make all kinds of papers work with your collage, depending on the ink choice. Great idea! Thanks for sharing. 😉💙👍🏻

I love this exercise..I really love color! I do have a question...I have some beautiful gelli printed papers that I'd like to use in collage but somehow they always seem rather busy when combined with ephemera bits. Do you have any suggestions for using them? And would you use these paint chip collages on pages in a junk journal or just keep them as pretty exercises?

Hi Trudy, I have a gelli press, and I have this same experience. The finished papers are too "loud" with strong colors, and it doesn't work with the more muted collage papers. How about you experiment and then tell me what you've discovered? 😉 I'd love to use my gelli papers, too, but don't know how. For the paint chips, for now, I keep them separate. I have them on a little ring, all together. 🧡

I used a gluestick. No particular brand. I like UHU, and I like Scholastic.

Liking these, but here in the UK where I am, our paint chips only seem to come in the strips. 🙁 I was thinking about doing it by just painting some card with acrylic paint but it wouldn't be ideal...

What about a stack of kids school construction paper? Any kind of paper with a vibrant single color. Just cut it to a smaller size.
