I'm Margarete Miller, first and foremost a collage artists who loves to use vintage ephemera when creating art. I am also the publisher, author, and creator of collage art books to encourage and inspire you to create collage art of your own. I love working on junk journals, gluebooks, rolodex art cards, ATCs, and art journals in general.
I make RU-vid videos to show you the projects I am working on, and to invite you to create with me. While I share lots of tutorials on how to start with basic collage art, I also like to explore the reasons that stop people from creating. Sometimes it's having too many art supplies. Sometimes it's not enough time. Sometimes it's being in a creative rut. Sometimes it's not understanding a concept such as what is a junk journal and what it the purpose of making one.
I welcome you to explore the wonderful world of collage and book arts. There's so much to explore!
I never watched you finish up this project. I loved that you took us on a field trip to that amazing store. Thanks. Love the journal and how it came out. Some gorgeous envelopes and the presentation is flawless.
Thank you for such a cute idea for the meandering book! I love how you decorated it. Also, thank you for the postal stamp idea! I didn’t know about those but will be checking with my post office!
Great video 👏😍 now i have learned how to make a teamed journal 🥰 and it sounds so fun with the around the world trip 👏 you are a genuine 🥰👏 i of course invite you to Arctic Norway 🥰 lots of love 🥰🌸🌼🍀
Thank you for your videos. I’ve recently discovered this art form but am battling to narrow down what’s important to get started. I don’t have money for fancy stamps and inks and washi tape (at least not right off the bat). I know it’s easy to find paper objects really cheaply or free. Other than basic scissors and glue, what tools would you consider impossible or difficult to do this work without?
Glue and paper. That's all you need. Not even scissors unless you want to cut things precisely-- you can always tear. Look for art reuse centers in your area. You can find interesting things there for cheap. And scissors and glue are not expensive.
Oh, that must be so disappointing when the camera cuts out like that! Despite it being temperamental, it was a beautifully done video. I’m looking forward to the upcoming voyage! You mentioned making up sheets for the October November workshop. Will most of them depend on a colored printer? I still only have a black-and-white printer, but at least it’s not dot matrix. Slowly moving into the 21st century.
Hi Annie, The printables I'm putting together are color, but I did some test runs of printing in black and white, and those are definitely useful, too. 💜
I think this would be a great thing to do with recipes that you cut off of food packaging as well as recipe cards that you’ve collected over the years.
Just stumbled on a video of yours and am watching these back to start my own Gluebook! Each one is like a work of art, your eye for form and colour is glorious. I love your uses for playing cards and other interesting pieces you've found. Thank you so much :)
Morning Margarete, Firstly, THANK YOU for accepting me for the "new" channel. The passport challenge/project is going to be sooooo much FUN, FUN, FUN. I can't wait until it is time to go!!!! I have been watching some of your "older" videos, and BOY, have a learnt a lot, inspired and in awe of your collaging, it is just so well thought out and you know just what goes with what. I have started to do ALL the challenges: the Alphabet Roladex cards, the 50 prompts and of course, your usual and (the best of all) the Margarete Miller Challenge every week. I have become so engrossed in these challenges and am enjoying them sooooo much. Thank you for all the inspiration, your delivery of the instructions, so clear and presise, love, love, love your videos. All I can say is, MORE, MORE MORE. I sound like a crazy lady, I know. My husband is reading this over my shoulder and is just now saying, "She is going to think you are a stalker!!!!!" 🤫🤔 I really am NOT, but a HUGE fan 😁😁 Thank you, too, for the Passport Freebie, have also been rummaging around the house and have found a few expired passports of ours. So I think I am well stocked up and ready to go. Sending you many Blessings and hugs from Cape Town. Diana 🤗🐱🐱🦊🦊
I don't have a passport but am thinking of getting one. I do have some Field Notes booklets with dotted pages from the USPS which are about the same size. I bought the set intending to use them as mini journals or gluebooks, etc. Thank you for the inspiration to get me started!
Thank you for the bonus collage! I like to have different sizes of bases on hand so when the mood strikes I can just grab one & start making a collage. I found a box of tag board 2.25"x3.875" cut pieces from the 1960's at my local thrift store & have really enjoyed using that size for some reason! The quality of the paper is fantastic.
When I had to send in my passport to get a new one, it was supposedly going to be sent back to me. Never came back, and they seem to have lost it. I got the new one. But the one with all my stamps. They I lost.
I wish I could have found you a long time ago! You are such a good teacher. Your glue books are so beautiful. I love the idea of a red themed book. Thank you for this wonderful video!
I love this! I am been making glue books and didn’t know it 😂 I thought it was junk journaling. Now I need to look at your junk journaling vids to get myself straightened out on the difference between the two. I think your glue books are beautiful . Thank you for all the ideas.
Thank you so much for laying out the intention behind the glue book making.I have had the experience of trying to save some papers that have been written by my loved ones.Instead of holding them in a box ,its way more acessible to put them in a book format.Thank you.❤
Nice job! I was going to use the flying stamp and my train cigarette cards... Wow! I have a full set of the locomotive cigarette cards too. Another great collage! Thanks for sharing!
@@MargareteMiller I got in deep with a cigarette card dealer and have way too many. I should send you some. I don't know if I can break up my dog collection. Hahaha!!!
This is going to be so much fun!! We've been trying to get to Scotland for years, but health issues are always keeping us from going. My sister and her fella are going in a couple of weeks so I'm hoping to use some of their great pictures. Can't wait to do this project!
That was fabulous! Thank you. I started one project (illustrating a picture book) 2-3 years ago and was surprised how long it takes. I will finish it one day as I want to collaborate on it, but in the meantime I have an idea for a project I can do on my own. Your video was very helpful.
I love these ideas. Will see if I can make some later today. It's snowing here in South Africa, not in our town, but about 90 kilometres away - spring had to give way to winter again.
Hi from Canada! I look forward to watching this every week. I like to watch how you collage. I have loved collage since I was very young and now I am enjoying it in my junk journaling. Thanks for sharing!
When I started this challenge, I put them on a ring. Thinking later, I said "what am I going to do with these?" I now send the cards to my sister-in-law, who has Alzheimers, once a week. She gets such joy getting them in the mail.
Love this project. I made faux passport wedding shower invitations for a friend many years ago. But passports have been on my mind lately. Thank you! 💙
