A majority of moisturizers already have some form of HA in them. One esty I follow has said to make sure your product has both HA and sodium hyaluronate to possibly prevent dehydration. If you find you don't like HA, ingredients like glycerin, beta glucan or even polyglutamic acid are good options.
I think this video confused a lot of people. You do not need a seperate hyaluronic acid serum. It is an ingredient that is already in a lot of moisturizers, if not most of them. It is an unnecessary step. Really its just a new marketing hack so brands can take more of ur money. It is usually listed as sodium hyaluronate. It is also found in many hydrating toners, primers, setting sprays, other serums and even sunscreens.. so you dont need to go out and buy it or use it as a seperate product. Dont buy into the fad.
@@magpiesneedle2575 true but Niadinimde is the new popular ingredient however it isnt already in majority of skincare products like Hyalurunic Acid is. You will actually have a hard time finding anything that is HA free. Yes Niacinimide is the new skincare "hero ingredient" but at least it is benefical to the skin compared to other fads weve seen like CBD or Rosewater.
Question: should I apply it before or after other serums that I use, please? Currently, I apply a couple of serums first but I have no idea if I’m messing it up. I do always finish with moisturizer, though. I learn so much from your videos! Thank you!
Thanks for this info! I had seen a dermatologist on TV who recommended against using this is dry climates, like the US Southwest, because it could pull moisture out of the skin. Your recommendation to put moisturizer on top of it solves that problem. Fantastic!!
@@riverx6802 i think if you use gentle cleanser then you dont need to apply toner to balance your skin and good to go with ha only but if you want to use them both just apply ha on damp skin the order doesn't matter that much.
So how soon after applying the hyaluronic acid do you apply the moisturizer? Immediately after, while it’s still wet/damp on the face or wait until it’s dry?
Would you do a video on Cerave’s recent reformulations (removed parabens and changed the form hyaluronic acid) ? People are commenting it is making their skin more irritated.
How long should you wait after the hyaluronic acid before applying moisturizer? Just till immediately after it dries or before it dries? If I do it before it dries that feels like it wouldn’t be it’s own layer then it just mixes with the moisturizer. Thanks.
Wow I'm so glad that I'm doing it correctly. I cleanse my skin with witch hazel. While my skin is still I put on my hyaluronic acid serum and I rubbed that in all the way. Then I apply my Neutrogena hyaluronic acid hydroboost body gel moisturizer. And my face feels so moisturized and so soft and so smooth. And it makes my skin look younger too.
I spray my face with thermal spring water before I apply hyaluronic acid and moisturizer. Having just a damp face may not be enough for some people who have dry skin like me. I finish with the whole thing with a few drops of jojoba oil and rose water. It may sound excessive but it’s necessary for the drier months.
I used it without the skin being damp and without using a moisturizer over top for a long time and I think it has really damaged my skin. Anyway to save it?
I am sooo confused. SO, should I use Vaseline, AHA, BHA, Retinol, Tretinoin, hyaluronic acid, ceravee, or what? Back in the day, we used Vaseline at night and baby oil during the day while we roasted in the sun, and in between Oil Of Olay. That was pretty much it.
@@angie1598 You can do it however you like. But the whole point of putting on HA first is that you are going to seal it in with an occlusive immediately after to prevent possible dehydration.
Do I apply the moisturizer directly after applying the hyaluronic acid while face is still damp? Or do I wait till the hyaluronic acid is dry and then apply moisturizer? I am so confused!
If ur using the neutrogena hydro boost gel cream, dr dray said it works best under a moisturizer but it can be used alone. She mention this in video “top 10 neutrogena skin care products” & “top 5 hyaluronic acid”
HA need water to work PERFECTLY so you can apply demineralised water (SPRAY) on your face and not let it dry before applying HA cream I've tried it many times and its great for my face ..i use this trick especially whene i use my cream under eye containing HA
Dr Drayy🙋🏻♂️ can I use The Ordinary AHA 30% BHA 2% weekly and a Benzoyl Peroxide 4% Pan Oxyl Cleanser in the morning everyday? Pls I need your counseling.
Use Benzoyl Peroxide cleanser at night. Then follow with a moisturizer with AHA (Hyaluronic Acid or Glycolic Acid). Then that’s it. For the morning I wouldn’t use Benzoyl Peroxide on the face again. Instead I would use a BHA 2% Salicylic Acid face wash then a sunscreen. What’s see the products your using?
Cosmetic chemist here. The HA serum is over 80% water straight in the bottle. It’s a misconception that people need to damp their skin while using HA products. Adding water to it would disrupt the intended pH in the formula, and lower cost HAs like the one from Neutragena tend to have lower pH for the epidermal delivery, as their HA molecules are much bigger than the intercellular space, so damping the skin will increase the pH and affect the absorption.

@@aeu7838 where did you get that idea from?? You only wash it off if its a face wash or mask. I use a salycilic gel to spot treat and definitely leave it on. Also Paulas Choice BHA toner I dont wash off.
@@doeeyes2 yup that's what i meant thanks, it was late and i read that they were using a salicylic acid facewash for some reason? in which case they would wash it off but not toners and spot treatments
Hi Andrea!! I use Hado Labo hyaluronic acid daily, BUT after I use it, I apply my serums and finish with moisturizer. Should I apply hyaluronic acid, moisturizer, serums and finish with moisturizer? Thank you for these shorts!🏵🏵🏵Lisa
How about throw all your serums away. Take a mental note of all the active ingredients your putting on your face. Then look for a moisturizer with the active ingredient you are looking for. Then re-evaluate: Cleanser - Moisturizer - Sunscreen. THATS IT!
HA can be used morning or night. As for tretinoin, apply the HA, seal with moisturizer, apply tretinoin. The active in the tretinoin will still be absorbed (she's said this in other videos).
Hello Doctor ! . Can you please inform whether I should put hyaluronic acid after the toner and serums or directly after washing my face ? TIA . Have a great day !!
After toner for sure, the serums go on depending on which of heavier formula. Although HA serums are kinda of waste in my opinion, as most moistrurizers already has it as one of their ingredients anyways.
Should people in dry climates just avoid HA all together? I've heard conflicting feedback on this and I'm pretty much scared of using it at this point.
You should use a very occlusive moisturizer to finish up so the environment does not suck the moisture out. ...this is even more true if you are using a HA serum.
I live in California and I use The Ordinary's Marine Hyaluronic. I actually mist my face with water before using it and then use a moisturizer after. I discovered this trick in one of Dr. Dray's videos. I believe she lives in Texas and uses HA.
An esty I follow has said that if using a HA serum, make sure it has HA and sodium hyaluronate in it to possibly prevent dehydration. Also, you can just use a moisturizer that has HA in it (most do). Or you can try glycerin, beta glucan or even polyglutamic acid. Just make sure if you use a separate HA product, you seal it in with a moisturizer that has occlusives in it.
Well hyaluronic acid is it really all that hydrating. The molecules are too big a better hydrator is glycerin. HA is in everything now anyway so I don't even bother with it frankly my skin is a lot better since I've focused more on using glycerin based products and locking all of that in with a good occlusive.
@@marikal2341 I guess it was due to the timing of it coming out? Dr Dray seems to be one of the first to have done a video on it early last year but yes, there were a number of videos on it within the past year.
Hi Dr Dray, i have seen hyaluronic acid moisturizer, do you think they are good "trapping" water? I am too used to apply hyaluronic acid as the first few steps having heard from you long ago, I am not sure if it is good as a last step. Thank you.
Hi! I use Mary Kay’s moisture gel mask which has hyuralante in it. I was told to apply it AFTER my night cream and leave on over night to keep my moisturizer locked in. Am I using this wrong? Thanks 😊
