Great video, thank you! Just bought a 2023 Kia Niro HEV and have been going crazy trying to figure out how this works (or doesn't). The owners manual is out of date but your video helped me piece together at least how to engage it and what to expect. Again, thank you!

Apparently it's giving you the option to go over the speed limit and it's a good option here in AZ because if you drive speed limit someone may shoot you..lol.

Again you've done a video that's super helpful. It looks like in %95 of my drives I'd never use it.... But I've got these I-5 ten hour California drives coming up so it maybe could be useful

Your settings may have specified a 10 mile per hour above speed limit buffer. Can be configured from 10 less than speed limit all the way to 10 above.

I think the system has improved (somewhat) in the latest software updates. I just had a 3.5 hr trip in my 2023 Tuscon limited and was pretty happy with the driving assist. It wasn’t perfect and I get nervous with autonomous driving in very busy traffic, but the system performed well overall.

Something I've seen on that display with HDA on is a white vertical arrow up or down, with a +1 or -1 next to it. Not sure what this is telling me.

0:54 it is and it isn't. Depends on your definition of "self driving". Can you take your hands off the wheel and fall asleep... no... but what you CAN do is take your hands off the wheel to open a soda, or a bag of chips or something, for a "reasonable" amount of time (still keeping eyes on the road if you need to take action)... I never really timed it per say, but on my latest road trip, with just a "normal" 2023 Tucson Hybrid (not limited), using Google Maps (not Hyundai Nav) and crusing down the interstate, I was able to maintain distance, maintain speeds, go faster or slower depending on traffic, and stay centered in the lane, with or without hands on the wheel and including around curves at speed... you CAN take your feet off the peddles and your hands off the wheel to do things in the car that require two hands... mind you, the system will get mad after awhile and tell you to put your hands on the wheel, but it still does the job of keeping you in the lane and during turns and stuff too, so, though it's technically "not" self-driving... functionally, it is, especially if you need to take your hands off the wheel to do something. I just took a couple of 7 hour trips on the interstate, almost never had my foot on the peddle, and did little more than keep a couple of fingers on the wheel (not "driving" mind you, just kinda letting the system know I was there)... I was pretty amazed at how "self-driving" this "not self-driving" system was. P.S. note I said I was using Google Maps (with Android Auto on a wireless dongle)... I've tried the built-in Hyundai Nav and in my honest opinion, it's complete garbage... I've driven down the same roads on both systems and the Hyundai Nav will miss informing you of turns or tell you far too late, the map is sometimes off... it's garbage in comparison... better than nothing, but not as good as Google Maps. I wouldn't trust it, or a driving system tied to it. Mind you, what I described above using the "self-drive" was basically driving in just one lane down a highway, it works great, but to pass or change roads/directions, you obviously need to take the wheel and manually do that.

Great video!! When I put it on cruise control and click the toggle switch up to increase speed it keeps going up and up it doesn't stop. So if I'm driving at 60 and flip the switch up it just goes from 60 to 65 to 70 doesn't stop and I don't know how t stop it. Any suggestions?

I have only experienced that once and it was on a Kia Seltos, I couldn't figure out how to make it stop but I would advise you to take the car to your dealer and see if they can fix it because I think it is a problem with the system, the Kia I experienced it on was not my car so I didn't take it in for repairs. Thank you for watching and good luck!

The benefit of the doubt I want to give it is, if it's been on a constant speed higher than what's allowed, it won't decrease speed automatically due to more cars possibly being faster than top speed limit too and forcing to reduce speed could cause a collision.... I'm not 100% sold in this theory but there must be some explanation rather than being programmed wrong when it's both a safety and pleasure feature.

From everything I read in the Hyundai owner's manual, everything I could get out of Hyundai's official RU-vid videos, and what I read on owner forums, I had it set correctly. Set smart cruise to the speed limit on a Highway or controlled access road that is programmed into the nav, and you will get a single alert chime, the Speed will be displayed in green, and you will get "HDA" and "auto" displayed. That's why I made that the thumbnail for the video, that what its supposed to look like. I did quite a bit of research on this and tried it multiple times, and this was the best I could do. There isn't a lot of great information on this system out there, even directly from Hyundai IMO, so that was one of my motivating factors for making this video. I feel I came up short but it wasn't for lack of effort, I think its a system that's currently sort of in its early phase. Hyundai has said that future map updates will provide more roads that it could work on, and I'm sure future software updates could enhance/expand its capabilities. EDIT: I re-watched the video to see what you are talking about, that flicker on the LED gauges is the GoPro's fault. It wasn't doing that IRL. GoPros are honestly kinda janky, I can't ever see myself buying another.

I recently got an ioniq6 and now I know how rip van winkle felt when he woke up! I have been completely lost trying to figure out the driver assistance system, not so much engaging it but disengaging it and also dealing with some of the things it decides that it wants to do or not do. This is frustrating for me but the biggest problem is that I am afraid for my wife to drive it. As an example sometimes driving on the freeway with nothing engaged the car will try to prevent me from exiting the freeway and I have to strongly take control of the steering. Is there any place I can go to really learn this system? Your videos are helpful but I am trying to find a more organized way of learning this stuff. I would appreciate any help. Thanks

If you are changing lanes or getting off the freeway, using your signal lights is a must. It will deactivate the lane keeping assist so you can turn. If you don't use signal lights, it will fight you to try and stay in the lane

Just bought a 2023 Santa Fe. Haven't even tried the cruise control yet. I have noticed the white "posted" speed limit sign is sometimes not accurate for the street I'm on. I'm not sure just how it determines the "posted" speed limit but it is not always correct. So, I wonder if that is what happened on the interchange where it seemed to malfunction the smart cruise.

The speed limits for the Highway Driving Assistant come from the Navigation data in the car, so if its out of date, or you enter a temporary construction zone where the speed limit is lower than normal, it will feed the system incorrect information. At that point you need to take control
@conniewheeler2399
@conniewheeler2399 7 месяцев назад
I know you are correct of course that if they are temporary construction speed limits. There are 2 particular streets I travel that the speed limit has been the same for the 20 years I've been driving them. They are higher speed limits posted than the NAV unit is showing. Perhaps if it updates it will be corrected. Thanks for confirming it was whatever is in the NAV database. @@CarDietrich

Interesting video. Just as a side note, the manufacturer's name is pronounced like "Hyun-day", with a soft y in there. Don't believe me? Use a translator that will pronounce it for you, and paste the name in Hangul (Korean written language). 현대
