Confused about what HDA2 has over HDA? Trying to decide if you want the top spec Ioniq 5 because it has HDA2? Trying to decide if you want Genesis' GV60 even though it only has HDA instead of the upgraded HDA2?
Today's video sets out to answer all those questions as I've had my HDA2 Ioniq 5 for over 9 months and my HDA Genesis GV60 for about 4 months. So I've had plenty of seat time to compare these 2 systems.
*Oops! Forgot that the SEL trim Ioniq 5 does indeed come with HDA2 but it doesn't get the HUD.*
Anyone else out there have experience with both systems?
Hit up the comments section with any questions and I'll happily try my best to answer them.

Excellent video! I just upgraded and the manual didn't help much, so thank you for explaining it so clearly. One question I have is how long does it take to get used to HDA, LFA, or adaptive cruise? I just don't feel like I trust it and end up taking over by instinct either pressing the brake or taking control of the wheel.

@@CarsJubilee I'm actually going to buy the Ev6. The Hyundai dealers around me all have the crazy markups. And there is one Kia dealer near me selling cars at MSRP. I was going to get the GT line, which has the HDA2. But I think I will just go for the Wind. It already has the vented seats, heated steering wheel, memory seats. The only thing I would be missing that i would like is the HUD. But the other features outweigh it. Thanks again.

Ya that Wind trim is very well equipped, comparable to the SEL trim. I think that middle trim for both is the sweet spot. I really like the looks of the EV6 well, would have been open to that but my area Kia dealerships have more markups.

Thank you very much for this comparison. In Europe we have HDA II as optional add-on for Ioniq 5 that affects delivery dates - causing a 6 to 9 month delay. I really wanted to include the HDA II package, but my sales manager swayed me away from it mainly due to possible delivery delays. I was really bummed out about it, but your explanation really cleared up the differences and I'm glad I listened to my dealer and didn't go for HDA II. Another concern I had regarding this was safety and emergency braking in possible frontal collision situations - but after watching Euro NCAP tests with the most basic trim - it also showed that there should be no worries.

I drive in heavy NYC traffic daily. I find the HDA2 systems add an extra layer of awareness when moving through traffic. You can have it activated without having cruise control engaged.

Without cruise control you are running just the auto steer/lane centering which is very helpful. That portion works the same for HDA.
@dasanknight
@dasanknight 11 месяцев назад
HDA2 comes standard on SEL trims. No need to upgrade to a Limited for this feature. I have it on my 5 and 6. HDA2 includes 'machine learning' not available on HDA1. This feature allows the vehicle to adjust the adaptive cruise to mimic the drivers acceleration and distance driving style and apply this while it's active. Quite a few times I have had the vehicle adjusted position for other cars intruding on my lane. This feature is very subtle, so that is probably why you did not notice that it engaged, or you may have the feature disabled in your settings. You also can turn on the surrounding view without the cruise control being set by pushing the cruise button and then tapping the brake pedal.

I agree the auto lane change function is basically pointless and actually difficult to trigger. Many times I try I had either steered just before and then it says “steering input detected” and refuses to do the auto change or I had not touched the wheel and it refuses for that reason. It only works if you make a deliberate tiny steering input before trying to execute, and getting this right requires basically more attention than just changing lanes yourself!

Another good video but I want to clear something up (or add to the confusion). You mentioned several times that a desire for HDA-II might cause one to step up to the LTD trim. I have a 2022 Ioniq-5 SEL. The brochure says SEL and LTD have HDA-II and the SE has HDA-I. My car has the (almost useless) auto lane change feature and the (cool-ish) surrounding traffic awareness display that you describe, which makes me believe that the SEL trim does in fact have HDA-II. Just a point.

Thanks so much for your video. I'm surprised there aren't more folks covering this on youtube so i'm thankful you're sharing your experience. I've had many different versions of ADAS all the way from the shitty BMW days and even the very first Lexus version from more than 10yrs ago. Can I ask what might be a stupid question? For regular HDA1 it does steer on it's own right? Will it hold a fairly tight curve like Tesla's autopilot? I've had many ADAS systems in the past that won't even hold a straight line and will only shake the steering wheel when you're nearing the lane guidelines OR when in a curve, it releases control at any hint of a tight turn. Thank you!

@CarsJubilee
@CarsJubilee Год назад
Thanks Jerry! Which EV are you thinking about up sizing the wheels? I think 22s on the ioniq 5 would make the suspension pretty crashy feeling on bad roads. It's pretty soft generally but it's sounds pretty bad on rough roads. I think the gv60 with that special active damper setup could probably handle it with changing the ride quality too much. Big range hit if you upsize the wheels but if you don't mind that then I'm sure you'd have a pretty cool looking car. Not too many people have changed out the wheels so it's always cool to see when someone does.

Did you notice that the HDA tends to wobble more within the lane more than the HDAII? I find that with the G70 2022 and gv70 2023 I’ve had they never stayed perfectly centered, hda I. Wondering if HDA II is better at that?
@CarsJubilee
@CarsJubilee Год назад
It's definitely not perfect, mine tends to pull to the right if I'm on the inner lane. But mine doesn't ping pong back and worth or wobble, pretty consistent in trying to maintain a line just a bit off center. It feels the same in my ioniq 5 limited with hda2 and my gv60 performance with hda. Some people have had luck getting them adjusted or cameras re-aligned if the wobble is bad. But doesn't fix it for everyone.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I have a 23 telluride with HDA2 and traded in a 22 telluride with HDA. My biggest complaint on HDA2 is that it only works on interstate highways here in the US. @CarsJubilee
@CarsJubilee Год назад
HDA (and HDA2) is just the combination of the adaptive cruise and steering assist on highways. You can use adaptive cruise and steering assist on any road, you just have to engage them both. It sounds like you just need to hit the steering wheel icon to engage steering assist?

@CarsJubilee Год назад
Unfortunately hda2 uses slightly different hardware (more cameras or sensors) than hda1 so it's unlikely you'll ever be able to 'upgrade' it. The only real option would be to switch cars. I have hda in my gv60 and hda2 in my ioniq 5 and they honestly behave exactly the same. Great for pretty straight and clearly marked roads. Doesn't deal with variances too well which is to be expected.

Automatic driving close to one side of the lane does make much sense in Germany. There you have to keep free an rescue lane in case of every traffic jam. It has to be kept free of traffik between the very left lane and the next lane to the right. It is very usefull to force the car to stay in such a lane automatically.

I definitely could see it being useful but I have not seen it actually work during the 2 years of ownership.
@Alejandro-ut4up
@Alejandro-ut4up Год назад
I hope this is not a spoiler before the video premiere but after also owning both vehicles my impression is that outside from loosing features like true stop and go, on coming traffic/ lane scoot avoidance and the party trick lane changing available only on NAV identified exit controlled roads(i.e. interstates) in HDA2 , the HDA in the GV60 was actually appreciably better at its core auto steer function on every road vs HDA2 in the Ioniq 5. The GV60 had virtually no unwanted steering wheel movement or lane hunting and was much better managing with poorly visible highway markers. I am not sure if this because of better hardware or just software improvements. The build dates on the 2 cars were only 4 months apart. Anyways at least for me the loss of HDA2 features( some of which are half baked - like relatively abrupt lane changing without NAV control) in I5 was totally mitigated by the better overall functionality of HDA in the GV60.
@CarsJubilee
@CarsJubilee Год назад
Haha no problem at all! Happy to hear from someone who's had both as well. Did you ever experience the scoot feature? In my almost 10 months of ownership I still haven't experienced it yet and that's what most people seem to say as well. As far as the stop and go, hda2 and hda for me are the same. They both do full stop and go on highways, no input needed up to 30 seconds. Have you experienced differently? That's really interesting that you find the lane centering better in the gv60. If I had to pick, I feel like my ioniq 5 is a smidge better at picking the right lane markings when there are merges and exits but it's nearly identical. I've heard some owners get their ioniq 5s looked at for some misaligned cameras/sensors. But essentially totally agreeing with you :) don't think HDA2 is worth waiting for or a must have because HDA is just as good.
@Alejandro-ut4up
@Alejandro-ut4up Год назад
@@CarsJubilee No, never experienced the scoot feature, thank goodness :) I live in a part of Canada without HDA2 NAV recognized roads, so only get to experience true stop and go when I'm travelling on US interstates, did so lots with the Ioniq 5 but have not tried with GV60 on NAV acknowledged roads. I assumed it may not be available on GV without the HDA2 NAV integration. Does the GV60's HDA have NAV integration on interstates? Nonetheless I defer to your better experience here. As far as the sensitivities to road markings if I travel on roads that only have marking on one side of the car the Ioniq 5 pretty much always gives up trying, while the GV will inexplicably keeps on going. Oh wow I wonder if maybe there's a calibration issue with your front sensors or camera? I haven't noticed it pulling me towards other cars but I can say that it doesn't always stay centered. Especially if the lane markings aren't perfectly visible.

Well, the car seems to prefer to be away from the edges of the road, so therefore prefers to be closer to another lane. I find this annoying because I’m more worried about moving traffic going into me than the car somehow steering itself into the side of the road. But on balance it’s still OK the way it is.

Dont you think we have become a little lazy.When we cant use our hands to move the car from one side of the lane to the other.LOL

Hda2 has adaptive cruise control and lane centering so it can drive itself as well as most other systems out there like autopilot. But it is not at the level of Full Self Driving with Teslas.

Regardless, these features will just be part of design obsolescence and will always soon be obsoleted by newer versions and with the increasing reliance on corporate servers, may not even work properly after a few years as manufacturers will of course want you to buy a new car. We need legislations to ensure the corporate server side services continue to function or preferably that all systems will still function as promised for the sale when the corporate services are EOL'd. If left to the manufacturers, it will be like software where you can't really purchase software, just the right to use the software but only for as long as the manufacturer supports it.

Hmm GV60 in Canada gets HDA2, are you sure? Owners plus Genesis Canada website say HDA and not HDA2.

If you have 2022 or 2023 Genesis that missed out on HDA2, you could add it later if you really want to. Like I did here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gVtNCR0QNII.html
