I had to look at the speed myself as well. That's a good idea to use the speedmach facility as well. After that dicky landing he may want to turn off the no smoking sign as I think people will be wanting a smoke after that. But a good tutorial nonetheless.

You sure they turn off ap at 500? Most of the times I see they turn off around 2000 feet. That still depends on the weather tho

Makes sense! I think MSFS has improved since I made this video, but back then it’d keep you up at over 30,000ft then all of a sudden say “get to 2,000ft” and you’d have like 10 miles to do it 😆

Hey mate, it’s been ages since I’ve flown the a320 so I may be forgetting something, but I’m fairly sure you dial in the altitude you want then have to pull the dial out (or push it in, either one).

@@_gamerdb2300 - I flew the super long France to Seattle flight too. Most of it asleep in bed. Next morning ATC wasn't working and ILS was trying to land me about a mile off the runway. I had to manually land that 320neo and got it in one without even a bounce.

Hey mate, loc is localiser, which will line up side to side, but won’t capture the glide slope. I vaguely remember some people would use the loc mode to get lined up, then hit ils to capture the glide slope. I don’t remember ever using it to be honest.

Keeping in mind I’m not a pilot, I’d say you can flick it on whenever you like, just remember that if you’re not low enough and close enough to catch the glide slope then you won’t get the purple diamonds, you’ll just have the 4 dots along the bottom and up the side. You can look up the ILS approach charts for the airport you’re going to and it’ll tell you what height and how far out you need to be to get the start of the glide slope

Glad you enjoyed! LOC can be thought of handling left and right, used when there’s no glide slope available. I believe some airlines have it in their SOP to use LOC then ILS, but I’m not 100% sure. If you’re landing at an ILS airport then you don’t HAVE to use it.

You could change to heading mode and use that to get back on course. Once you’re back online try clicking LNAV again and see if it’s happy

I’m also on XBOX, but to be honest I never bother with VNAV in any plane, I just use the altitude selector according to what ATC tell me to climb to, and then either what I want on the way down or what ATC tells me to descend to. Though I find sometimes you don’t get told to descend until really late.

@@_gamerdb2300 Thank you I will probably do that and follow the flight plan without atc. It seems to work better and atc doesn't know what they are saying most of the time. Most of the game feels bugged.

@@StormRaid417 yeah I wouldn’t use ATC exclusively and You’ll figure out what works for you. After all it’s a game so if dropping altitude early works for you (which it does for me) then go for it.

Few things to check, what height are you at? Most ILS approaches will want you at 3,000ft above ground level, so if your airport is at 500ft then be at 3,500ft Then make sure you’ve got the ILS frequency inputted to the MCDU

It's broken mate, same as the lvfr Airbuses, I got in touch with lvfr and they seem to think it's on Microsoft side

@@jeb-f8r from memory (been a long time since I’ve flown the a320), you don’t HAVE to use LOC mode. But if you want to you can once you see the localiser diamond appear down the bottom. Else use approach mode as the purple glide slope diamond gets close to the horizon.

Sure can. Just keep in mind once you do it’s all on you. Without AP the plane won’t be able to maintain localiser or glide slope itself, but that just makes sense right

@@Walterwhits hey mate, it will only follow the ILS approach when you’ve activated approach mode, and are at the required height / position to intercept the glide slope. Turning on the ILS display itself won’t capture the approach.

@@_gamerdb2300so approach mode will direct to the airport and descend but the landing will just be with simple autopilot? And one more question, how do you know at what altitude and position you have to be in order to activate approach mode?

@@Walterwhits approach mode is a system of auto pilot, so if you turn off AP, approach mode will then off too. What approach mode does is capture the localiser (left to right) and glide slope (up and down) and will bring you almost to the ground. You’d want to disconnect AP and land yourself. The height you need to be at depends on the airport. A good rule of thumb is to be 3,000ft above ground level to capture, but that’s not a set in stone rule. Some airports are 4,000 above ground level. Easiest way to tell is to look up the airport chart and find the ILS plate for the runway you’re going to land at, it’ll tell you on that what height you need to be at to capture the glide slope.

Which plane and where are you flying to? Also did you set the approach for an ILS landing on the world map?

@@_gamerdb2300 Yeah I realized in the A32NX I would need to enter the frequency and CRS on the MCDU RadNav to be able to enable the approach mode

@@shoebillstonk I've found that I only need to do that for some airports. I reckon 70% of the time it'll auto populate if I set it all up in the world map, but 30% of the time I need to manually put the frequency in. Glad to hear you got it sorted :)

Make sure you’re changing from direct GPS to either low altitude airways or high altitude airways. Also should note that not every airport will have ILS. But major ones definitely will. Try YSSY (Sydney international) for example. There’s ILS for both 16L and R and 34L and R

Thanks for watching, glad it was helpful! When you say it goes over, is it only by a little bit? If so, make sure that you’re setting your baro pressure to standard. This is done at different heights depending where you are flying. EG. in Australia it’s done at 10,000ft in the US it’s 18,000 and in a lot of Europe it’s 6,000ft

@@_gamerdb2300 He might be referring to the stuff you have to input into the MCDU such as ATIS info like pressure, temp, etc. I'm not sure any of that makes a difference, though. This video shows the meat of what you want: capturing the glideslope using ILS.
