This video was recorded before the lockdown began. Here is another great video showing our homemade pots in action. 😊🦞🦀 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Hz6dr-xL5rA.html
I like this man for his friendliness, enthusiasm, his "I am who I am", just stay cool, and his pure knowledge. Maybe he learned it from his parents, or his pure curiosity. He deserves subscribers. A down to the earth man. He knows what he's doing, by experimenting, and respect for nature. In these strange times, it's great to see such people. People who don't go insane, and stay basic. Support this channel by subscription. I swear that I have nothing from this comment. It just his friendliness, knowledge, that made me watch his vids. Greetz!
periesicsd - That was wonderful to read. It has been a trying day and everyone is a little stressed with everything going on in the world. So this was really nice. Thank you. Take care of yourself and best wishes to your family. 😊👍🏻
Couldn't agree more, mate. Fantastic knowledge and very entertaining. My mom got me a "Fish Locker" T-shirt for Christmas. She spoke with John over Facebook and said what a lovely man he was. I was well chuffed and I am a 35 year old man! Haha Consider supporting him by buying some stuff...its fantastic quality, though I haven't caught anything whilst wearing it yet! ;)
@@TheFishLocker Only washed it the once but have to admit that I have only fished in it twice, just a bit of freshwater trout spinning. I think it will come into its own when I am out on the sea again ;)
When I feel anxious and like the world is out of control, your videos are therapy. A window into the natural world that carries on so earnestly without regard for our hopes and fears. Thanks for opening that window for us around the world. Cheers from Virginia.
Hey John, here's a story, My daughter who fished like mad when she was five and six (24 now, still at Uni and at home,we weren't like that were we John?) and so said to me yesterday "let's go fish on Lake Burley Griffin" (In the centre of Canberra here). So there we sit with no fish even laughing at us and I start talking about this guy I watch on YT and all his exploits and she says "Yeah I watch him, Fish Locker". Good taste is in the genes ay mate. Good health to you and yours. Kindest regards Allan
- Haha. That is so cool. Both that your daughter still enjoys going fishing with you and that you both independently found the channel!! Best wishes to you all Allan and good luck for the next time you go fishing. :D
Hey there I am a grandmother in Kentucky, USA. I enjoy so much watching your videos. I love watching the time you spend with little James. Keep on doing what ya do. Love it.
- Hi Sandra. I am really glad to hear you are enjoying our videos. And James is just a little superstar isn't he. He makes me so proud. Best wishes to you and your family and stay safe. :)
Although I have no interest in Lobster Pots, how well and simplistic you explain the logic in setting them up. Then you give us a demonstration of using them in your boat, with a follow up on whats inside them crab, huss and my favourite creature the lobster. What excellent entertainment and relief it provides in these troubled times, thank you for the entertainment and you and your family stay well.
Thank you David, we just love sharing our favourite things with people. I am so happy that we can provide some distraction from the sad news at the moment
Once again so interesting Mr locker, will be Fascinating too see how you get on in the future with your home made pots. Let’s just hope the Lockers aren’t locked down for too much longer and we get to see more of your adventures . Thanks for sharing
This is easily my favourite channel on RU-vid. Quality content from a knowledgeable humble bloke we can all relate to. Hope you and the family are keeping well. Keep the vids coming please.
- Thank you Cliff. As I have said before, we are simply sharing what we know and what we love doing. This can be a dangerous thing to do so hopefully this video can help folks to learn and stay safe. :)
Cracking video john and then eggs underneath the lobster was mad , I never seen that before , cracking shot of them. Thanks and take care in this trouble time . Lee 👍
First up John glad to see your safe and well and hope the family are too.Great to see a very informative video out on your boat and how you go about setting up your pots to catch your food. That crab has defo been eating well and I’m sure your good lady cooked up a treat with it.Stay safe and well my friend give my best to the family.Atb from Scotland
I've always wanted to know exactly how and where these bad boys were supposed to be placed. All of your videos always make me hungry and a little jealous of all that excellent looking seafood. Good to see you're weathering this crisis just fine, and I hope that continues through the coming weeks!
- I am glad you found the video interesting Jack. We are just trying to keep out of the way and hope this all blows over soon. We are running out of content sadly, we will see what happens. Take care. :)
@@TheFishLocker Well we certainly understand that it's hard to make content under this lockdown. Have you considered maybe doing a simple little back porch or kitchen table video with your wife (James as well if he feels like sitting still) and talking about what kinds of things you would be interested in doing in the future on the channel? Perhaps you could do another cooking video as well, one with a full kitchen at your disposal instead of just the little camp stove on the beach? Just my two cents worth. All the best.
KAKADOUJACK - There are a few things we can try. However this has affected us more than folks might know. I am still working and James is considered high risk because of his chemo treatment. So I have had to live elsewhere whilst the family is on full lockdown to try and keep them safe. Stay safe.
@@TheFishLocker Oh goodness me, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm glad to see you taking things seriously at least, and I'll certainly keep you all in my prayers!
Good morning John, and what a smashing one it is 🌞 what better way to start the day then to watch a Fish Locker video....just not long enough 😁😄Pulling up them pots must be one hell of a work out . Enjoy that crab what a beautiful specimen.Have a fabulous day the Fish Locker family,lm of to my allotment again 😊 plenty of work to be done and l love it,all the new veg seedlings are up and ready to plant out.All the very best 🌱🌱🌱👌💚
- Good morning Joyce, I am glad you enjoyed the video. Yes it isn't as long as we usually like to make them but we are just doing what we can. This lockdown has really made things difficult but we will try our best. I'd love to have an allotment again. Who knows what the future may hold? Take care and stay safe. :)
This video took me back in time. It reminded me how I was taught to splice the Dan ropes for the lobster pots. I was only about 10 at the time and I was even allowed to burn the ends. How times have changed. Another great tutorial John. Thanks.
Teresa Hepplewhite - I love triggered memories like that. Once’s you’re don’t even know you have sometimes until something innocuous takes you back in time. 😊 Best wishes Teresa and take care. 👍🏻🦀🦞
another amazing fishing day put on film, it stimulates my appetite and tight! great and respect that you put back small crabs and the lopster full of eggs
RThenk A - It is the only way to be. I hope that other people watching our videos will follow our example and adopt a more conservation minded approach to their fishing. Take care and stay safe. 😊👍🏻🦀🦞
- I could have taken the fish and other crabs to eat but I only take what we need. Some days you catch lots, some days you catch a little. Some days its easy, and some days its a lot of effort. That's fishing. :)
Imagine a high budget show with Fish Locker going out fishing and foraging with a marine biologist! It would be both entertaining and educative to see you with a clumsy scholar sidekick trying to follow you on your adventures, making links between his books and what you learned with many years of experience on the field!
Great episode John, full of teaching and knowledge but also very importantly showing your emphasis on conservation. You could have legally kept a lot more of that haul and many would have just taken the whole lot. A great example and good on you mate!
- Thank you Steve, I am glad that you share my feelings on conservation. Yes a lot of that could have been retained but my opinion is if its small enough that I even need to think about measuring it, its too small. Lets hope others can adopt the same to their own fishing. Take care mate. :)
Pure class this guy.. keeps me sane does this stuff.. addictive so it is.. I like Capt Jeff vids also but this is the best on RU-vid by a mile.... BRILLIANT TA FOR POSTING STAY SAFE...REESPECT.🥰🥰🥰
- Thank you very much John, we are simply sharing what we love doing. We might not be able to keep up our usual quality or video length due to these virus restrictions but we will do our best. Take care. :)
Mate you have a full time job replying to all these comments haha great we video again always something going on in the videos your enthusiasm comes across great as well the weather is starting to warm up to hopefully a load of good fishing for everyone that's out trying this summer soon as we all get moving again ,cheers ,,😀👍
- Haha. Yeah, the comments and replies to messages etc does take a bit of time. Fingers crossed we wont be locked down for much longer so we can get out and enjoy some time on the water again. Tight lines Steve. :)
Hi the crabs I used to catch in Guernsey were the spider crab abs one we called a shanker which I think is what you call an edible crab, thanks for another super video, keep safe.
john kersey - Haha. It’s not what we call an edible crab. It is the proper name for them. They’re Brown Edible Crabs. You crazy islanders and your funny names 😉😛🦀 Take care John and stay safe.
@@TheFishLocker I didn't think Shanker could be its proper name, I used to dive for them and sell to the holiday makers for 10/- each if you remember how much that is ,lol . stay safe
Enjoyed this, easy going practical with lots of information. I'm hoping to start soon in Fife, have a small boat, had a pot, should have watched the video first, I'll persists, try and learn more. Many thanks and best wishes.
- Im glad it was helpful to you Duncan. I don't know what the regulations are up your way - you may need a recreational permit for the pots. Best to check with your local fisheries authority. ;)
@@TheFishLocker thanks, other than the size issue a permit hadn't occurred to me. I've checked the scot.gov site and you're subscribers may be interested that so long as you do not sell, its one lob and 5 crab per day allowance for unlicensed. I hope to be that lucky👍
@@TheFishLocker Thanks, you too mate. I used to live by the sea as a kid and your videos take me back to those wonderful times of exploring and foraging. Great for the soul!! Thanks again.
Awesome 🦀! 💪🏻 Always educational and gotta respect a man that’s has respect for the laws and nature, John is truly a wonderful man. Thanks for the video. Much love to you an the family, please stay safe brother. 🎣🙂
Cary Pearson - Thank you Cary. I make special mention of the fisheries laws and show them being followed in the hope that it encourages others to take a proactive approach to conservation. Take care mate. 😊👍🏻🦞
Ian Peacock - Just like with our videos Ian, I don’t publicly share locations as you don’t know who’s reading. But areas around Redcar Tees way would be a good place to look. 😉🐚
Really chuffed to see this video appear today, great informative video as always. Hope you and your family stay safe and well during this horrible time
- It is our pleasure, we are just doing our best like everyone else. We know a lot of people enjoy the videos so we will do what we can under the current circumstance. Take care and stay safe. :)
You are simply a fount of knowledge. I have become your biggest fan simply because you know so much and are so willing to share what you know. You teach in your videos in an off-hand way so that even if you didn't come to your page to learn, you can't help but learn. Thanks. Oh, did you do a video on making those pots/traps? Thanks again.
- Thank you Wil, we are simply sharing what we know and love doing. I think we should all share more. If we all shared what we know, we would all know an awful lot more. :D Here is the link for how to make the pots. ;) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GPtZXZLpkrA.html
not a bad haul of mixed there fella its nice to get a mixed haul to see whats about some pukka bull-huss as that lobster was falling to the depths i wonder if an huge bass ate it lol.I used to fish comercial pots in my teens off the Michael George PT21 i loved them years of my life.
- Aye it was a nice mixed haul. Good sign of the health of the ground as you say. Haha. It would have to be a bloomin big bass to swallow that girl. I loved potting, it was always so exciting. Take care Ray. :D
Hi Shippers, really interesting video. I know you have touched on splicing in previous video but might be an idea during lockdown to do a series showing how to do them (short, eye and back). Trouble being once you know, you can never just walk past a piece of frayed rope again. Keep the family safe, happy steaming.
Greta video, lots of info. Maybe you already mentioned which boat you have. If you did, can you refer to the video where I can see it? Thank you for the entertaining and stay safe
Aleksandar Stevanovic - My boat is an Orkney 520. I do several videos where you can see her but none specifically about the boat. You’ll have to google it. 😉
Michael Fox - Thank you Michael, we have given and sacrificed a lot to be where we are. We are simply making the best of what we have. Take care mate and tight lines. 😊👍🏻🎣
Another great vid. I noticed how clean all the crabs were, must be perfect conditions down there for them. A lot of the crabs landed up here in the North East are almost black on the underside, but I think a lot of that's down to dumping waste from the coal mines out at sea, it did a tremendous amount of damage that we're still paying the price for. Fingers crossed you and the boy are back out for summer.
- Sadly William the dumping of things out at sea still goes on far too much. Out of sight out of mind most folks feel. We are very fortunate that the waters are so good down here. Long may it stay that way. ;)
Great vid 👍.just got me a kayak,I think I will make some folding pots.maybe I can get some lobster, not fond of carb though .I would love some Huss to play with but we don't get here .stay well you all👍👍🤙👊
Good morning fella throughly enjoyed your video on the crab pots! I'm a proper deadliest catch fan aswell 🙌 so be safe my man look forward to the next video. ...
- Those dealiest catch boats go out in some extreme weather don't they. Its pretty impressive even for a man who has been going to sea all his life. :D
@@TheFishLocker I used to fish a lot from boats from Dover and many a time caught out in some serious weather in the north sea... (real and rod) aswell 🤢👍
Nice catch! that crab looked delicious and in fact, I'm kinda jealous. With the current standing of the world right now I honestly haven't had a good meal as of late, its been instant ramen and frozen pizza recently. I hope everyone is staying safe and staying healthy its hard times we're going through but I'm glad I'm apart of this awesome community! Thanks for adding light to my day! Can't wait for Wisconsin's national bird to come back... Mosquitos. lol. but seriously thanks for the fun and interesting videos. Catch ya at the local fleet farm!
- Haha. That Mosquito joke made me chuckle. Yes these are difficult times for us all, let us hope that they pass over swiftly and we can get back to living a freer life. Take care Jakob. :)
John! New subscriber here and really enjoying your content. A little tip I use for leaving your clams and shellfish to purge, is to put a bit of cornmeal in with them and they'll spit sand out and eat it right up! Thus speeding up how fast they'll purge sand and grit! Keep up the good work and stay safe!
- Hi Doug and welcome to our channel. People have actually told me that already but have said mix pepper and cornmeal together. That is so interesting and thank you for sharing. Take care and have a nice day. :)
You have a pure soul of the heart my friend :DDD my fortune for you is that you have the soul like the pink himalayan salt so pure so clean thank you for the video thank you keep on getting the shells :DDDDD
- Thank you very much for the kind words and welcome to our channel sir. We are simply sharing what we love doing, I truly hope that our videos may provide a positive distraction for people during these difficult times. Take care and stay safe. :)
Really useful information John, thanks. It's part of my retirement plan in about 5 years to move to the south coast and get myself a boat. I'm soaking this stuff up like a sponge mate. All the best, Chas :0)
I have a 30ft offshore Power Boat with living area on a trailer going cheap lol . Was once owned by Noel Edmunds . It was one of them crazy eBay moments . I thought it was about 15 ft until he delivered it . Holy Crap I've bought Queen Mary when it turned into the Street lol .
@@TheFishLocker we should be down the Llyn Peninsula now getting our boat out for the first time since last October. Maybe next month if we all stay home, stay safe.
This is making me crave some good crab! Once all of this quarantine is over I will have to get my hands on some. Loved this video, thanks Fish Locker! :)
- It is the only way to be in my eyes. Your fishing/foraging or catching should always be low impact on the environment. That way everything is healthy and in balance. :)
Love watching these videos. Almost, if not every time, you and your family upload, I get soooooooo excited. Also, even though my state in America is desert dry, I love teaching people about coastal foraging haha. Great video.
Nice trip John, a decent crab for dinner and a lucky lady lobster if it had been a male that could have also been on the plate; take care stay safe stay well.
What a brilliant catch Sir. How do those dog-fish get in those small pots eh..? Lobster was a beaut ; respect the way you cared for her. I think you might just live to past 100 with that great seafood diet right. Thanks for sharing your time. Cheers to all
