Thanks so soo much. It's frustrating that other people aren't as clear as you are. I'm dyslexic and really struggle with information but you came to save the day. Thanks
Thank you, Blake. Loving the drag and drop of both audio and midi from Maschine to Ableton. Never one to hold back on running before I can walk, I bought a Maschine plus as well with the idea of using it live and condensing my Ableton tracks so as to be able to set them up on Maschine plus for a live set. Does the drag and drop work the other way?
Thanks for watching, glad it was helpful! You can use maschine as a midi controller for ableton, there are directions for set up, I haven't done it and I am not sure what control this gives you, and there's a few videos on it I think - -- support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000605109-How-to-Set-Up-the-MASCHINE-MK3-Integration-for-Ableton-Live and video - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wmjeLqEftCo.html
amazing video!! but i have a problem. when i drag a midi pattern from maschine and drop it into the midi section in ableton i get no sound, it reads that im getting it but i dont. but when i drag it into the audio section the sound is there. im using the mk3 and push 1 together
If you drag midi into the midi track in Ableton, you will need to add an instrument to that track....the only thing you are transferring is the notes with that move, Ableton still needs a sound to be able to generate something to those midi notes.
It is all a matter of preference and while I have done the midi routing, I just don't like to use it that way. If it works for you and your workflow, that's great!
Great video. It would also be good to see a whole workflow of say, working in Maschine and then taking it into Live to finish a track. Utilizing Push 2 as well.
i'd agree with pierre B on that....just picked up maschine today...and have push in my system and really want to see how it might work having both controllers inside of ableton.....
Thank you for this video!!! I’ve spent my entire winter break trying to integrate Maschine into Ableton and Logic and nothing I’ve found has been as clear as this video. 🙏
Ahh, thank you for such a nice compliment! I am glad to hear this was helpful and that you had the time to devote to making music over break! I am dreaming of the day I can get a solid block of time to make music, so much learning happens when you can just focus solely on your craft! Thanks for watching!!
I appreciate that this video gets right to the point. I started using Ableton more seriously abt three years ago, and haven't really touched my Maschine controller since then. I kinda wanna pick it back up again. Thanks for the video!
Hello ! I have a Mikro mk3 and I know that still not exist teamplate for it . But I saw (even in official site of NI ) that it is possible integrate Maschine software in Ableton as VST. BUT now I can't find this information . Maybe you can help me with this dilemma ? Thanks for answer !
Did the software (firmware?) update that you mention at the outset ever appear? If so, has it transformed the way you use Maschine with Ableton? Thank you.
I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong but when I open the maschine vat in ableton 11 shift and record don’t work, normally you get a count in but nothing happens
Great video and topic! Question: can you drag the full midi patterns from Maschine to a drum rack? I think you said you could but last time I tried, something weird happened.
Great question, I should have been more clear - as best as I know there is no way to drag all into a drum rack, but you can move a drum rack into the midi clip once the drum midi is there and if you want all your drum midi in the same drum rack, you can just copy and paste it one by one into that one midi track, which is a bit tedious. You would then need to move it to the corresponding note, because all are on C3 by default I believe. I personally like to keep all my drums separate and then place them into a group, this way I can have individual control over each with effects, etc., but then also easily apply effects to all the drums in that group.
If you own a serial to Maschine, you can download the software and yes, use it as a plugin in Ableton. But you need to have a registered serial number in Native Access to be able to download it...
New subscriber here: Hi everyone, I have a Maschine Plus and was frustrated for weeks because I could not get Ableton to "see" the Plus as a controller. I eventually found the solution -- the solution is this: I had to hit "settings/system" and then hit the "controller" button to take the Plus out of the "stand-alone" mode and Ableton could "see" the device and details in Blake's video work perfectly. To return back to "stand-alone" mode you reverse the process by hitting "settings/system" and hitting a new button now called "stand-alone."
Yay, glad to hear and thank you for watching! I appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment and I hope you are out there making awesome music and having a fun time doing it!!
Thanks! Appreciate the info. Just got a sub from me! After you've dragged the midi into Ableton and finished editing it. Do you then convert it to audio?
Thanks for watching and subscribing, appreciate it! It's up to you if you want to convert to audio, by freezing to audio you free up some brain space on your computer so it doesn't have to work as hard...totally up to you and how your computer is doing with all the plugins you might be using.
I believe there are some instructions on how to do that on the Native Instruments website, I just did a quick search, this might be helpful for what you want to do -- support.native-instruments.com/hc/en-us/articles/4413367278097-How-to-Install-MASCHINE-Templates-for-Ableton-Live
hello @blake, your videos truly helps on beginners that are struggling to find a workflow just like myself, this changed my game, and i truly appreciate this, thank you very much ! keep doing videos, your great ! i hope you reach your goals you most desire !
Ahh, this is the nicest comment. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch the video and write out this compliment, I really appreciate it! I try to make videos about things that work for me -- in areas where I have gotten caught up myself. Glad to hear it is helpful for you! I wish you the best in your musical journey!!!
@@BlakeHeart i believe this is the way to evolve music and youtube content, is to feedback artists when they do good ! Atleast in my opinion ! Thank you !
Sooooo make my beats on machine and import them to Ableton audio or midi. Sounds fair. I just can't understand how to make a beat or drum rack on Ableton with maschine controller.
so can you just use maschine studio as a midi controller for ableton or other software-are the keys programmabled for other software, meaning not using maschine sofeware like this video shows
You can use Maschine as a midi controller in Ableton BUT what I am doing is actually using both with Ableton. It is a workflow thing - they are different pieces of hardware, similar, but different just as maschine software is different than Ableton Live. For me, I like using them both, I get the ideas flowing with Maschine - and build them out and finish them off in Ableton. Best of both worlds!
As an old British Rock n Roller (yes recorded our records in London on Ampex in Pye #2 studios) I needed to let you know what a great explanation of this murky cavern of Mashine to Live!!
Sorry, but that workflow is far from being effective and you're going to spend more time dragging clips than making music! Best way is to use machine software as VST instrument into Ableton (with last version you can resize machine GUI any size you want) Load your Machine project and keep working like in standalone. Both softwares will be in sync, so you can be using Ableton tracks same time with Maschine. To be able to hear Maschine, route each group in Maschine to an individual audio output, and set new audio tracks in Ableton for each Maschine group. Then when is time to mix, just arm those audio tracks in Ableton and record the stems to Ableton.
I respect this comment -- and was SUPER excited about potential of freely resizing, but I have the most up to date version of Maschine, and I just hopped into Ableton to see if this was true but I am only see the option to make the UI small, medium, or large. Large on a 5k monitor is just still smallish for my old eyes...but I totally get where you are coming from, nobody wants to spend to much time dragging and dropping and there is of course midi routing capability. This is just the workflow I have found works best for me, so I wanted to share it out. I feel like I just need the ability to make the UI of the Maschine VST extra large for my eyes -- and if that happens at some point, I will be a super happy person.
@@BlakeHeart Hi, I can resize any size I want, I am on a 2K. If you can't make it work in your system, there's a way to mod the GUI XML, just google it. Someone also made a mod to make the Maschine Mixer bigger, and that was the most annoying thing for me, even as standalone by default you can't stretch the mixer window and leaves so much space on the bottom. Good luck!
@@BlakeHeart I created 2 templates both for Maschine and Ableton ready to go with all internal audio connections. All you have to do is open Ableton, load the template as a new project, same for Maschine after you load the VST. I can send it to you, just pop into my RU-vid channel, and in the contacts you will find my email.
Thank you so much for this!!!! I bought my MK3 and Komplete keyboard not realizing how non-linear workflow would be with ableton. It’s not bad at all! This video helped me so much! 😍😭🥺 sending you love and positive vibes.. Merry Christmas to you and your family! 🙏🏻
Only found your vids and channel yesterday. Amazing 🤩. You have really helped me come up with a better work flow. Love the explanations very informative and to the point. Like another person said, I knew it had to be more straight forward and you have shown that😎👍thank you.
signed into my youtube after getting this maschine + retro, being a native ableton and push user i gave up on it twice already after having an mk3 2 years ago and selling before i've gotten to the point im at now. i can actually understand what im doing on the device itself, but learning how to manage the maschine software with the instrument (i love being hands on and playing things) and ableton is a HUGE plus for me. thank you so much for your time, and the fact you were juggling so much in life at the time and still took the time out of your busy day to educate us and teach us how simple things can be i have great appreciation for you as a human being. thank you so much blake!!!!!
Hey, I am glad to hear that you gave another go at it - just keep going, that's what I tell myself because I am not anywhere NEAR to being an expert at Maschine, I have my own struggles, lol! Thanks for watching, I appreciate you!!!
Blake, I really like your style of teachine with Maschine and Ableton, and producing in general. I am currently trying to figure out how to best set up my live tracks for my church using Maschine and Ableton Lite, and the songs we do are subject to repeating or jumping to another part of the song. Trying to avoid buying the standard edition if possible since I already had to pony up the dough for Logic Pro (needed some of the tools and sounds). Anyway, thanks for the breakdown.
I still cannot find an answer to something that should be so simple. i want to make a groove in maschine, move it to my daw exactly the same as it is. MIDI with the correct expansion kit, i dont want to re sound all the midi....i dont want to import midi and then have to choose vsts for them. no i want the expansion kit i just used in maschine to make the damn midi. I want the sounds I just made. but i dont want audio files. i want MASCHINE MIDI!! it seems impossible to get this stupid software to work. im about ready to install the expansions into a third party drum pad kit.
If you import the midi into another DAW - that DAW doesn't know what sound are associated. There are some companies that have tried to make some work arounds but I am not that familiar with them. Keep searching and you may find the golden answer because what you want to do is a real time saver...
@@BlakeHeart sorry that came off fairly aggressive, it was a long battle to figure this out. the solution i found which i know at least works in Ableton and Bitwig. but i cant figure it out in Reaper or any traditional DAWS yet. is to load a drum machine or drum rack device. load each cell with an empty sound slot, and then route internal FX to an instance of Komplete Kontrol, within K.K load up battery4 and any maschine expansion in battery. you can use the actual Battery VST2 aswell, but the K.K browser makes it easier to see your expansion packs. should be able to get each pad in battery to correspond with each pad of the drum device in Bitwig/Ableton. now you can program midi in your DAW instead of being forced to use some proprietary software. which is horrendous to use as a VST. its tolerable in standalone as a extremely feature reduced DAW, like a mobile DAW? or a DAW Lite, but the VST is pretty much torture, fighting between host sync, nothing ever lining up right, bouncing between screens just to figure out whats playing, and learning an entirely new set of controls and imo disappointing and lack luster midi editor... shocking that NI doesn't care that there software sucks for most use cases and after spending 300+$ on a groove machine from them you have to find 3rd party scripts just to use it as a basic midi controller in anything.... blows my mind. before figuring this out i was honestly questioning the value of any NI expansion. seems insane to pay 60$ for something you can only use in a small niche scenario. i also found a MASCHINE FX VST that works similarly to this if setup in the software properly, but i would prefer to avoid that software that forces connection to my controllers at all costs. so battery works well !!
I haven’t found a simple explanation like this anywhere. Very good job!!! And for that you get a sub. I have both and I like to switch to keep things fresh. Hey, how’s it work in reverse?
What a nice compliment, thanks for watching and subscribing. I just try to make videos that I wish someone would have made for me to find on RU-vid! I have no interest in going in reverse, generally start with Maschine to flesh out the ideas, and move over to Ableton...
If you choose collect all and save in Ableton you should be good to go - and will have all samples within the Ableton project folder. I am always on the same computer, don't move around -- and don't collaborate with folks, so not an issue for me generally. But with any DAW, if you are collaborate and moving around - make sure to save with samples, collect all and save, etc., whatever the DAW calls it because they label it differently. Hope this helps!
Does your maschine mk3 have latency when your finger drumming (vst) into ableton live?? I need answers to fix the latency there's no latency in standalone mode!
Not sure I understand the question - but you can use Maschine+ as well, it works just like the MK3 with Ableton but can also be used as a stand alone unit too.
Nice, you cover a lot of tough talking points in the video production industry! We are interested what you do, keep it up. Anytime you are in Scottsdale hit us up. If you can, DM us @dmakproductions on IG and we can connect. We love what you do!
You just need to find the sweet spot for your workflow and that's not easy, believe me, I go back and forth on everything, lol! But this is working for me...and there are so many ways to integrate the 2 together.
@@BlakeHeart I’ve still got it and found a work around after I realized it was non-returnable lol the pads are fantastic and I love a lot of the factory essential sounds it came with. But I’ve yet to find a way to sync with ableton without having to repeat the steps every time I open my daw. Really impacts the flow lol
Even if I find content useful on a channel I rarely subscribe - but not this time! This was so clear, definitive, and easy to digest as a beginner with these 2 systems. Love your attitude, engagement, and approach! You brought so much value towards helping me establish a wf, thank you! Can’t wait to see more.
By far the most informative video how to use Ableton Live and my trusty ol' Maschine Studio together. Keep up the good work. You really helped me here. Many Thanks, and stay creative.❤
Thanks, for the info. Just about everyone that try to explain this it seem like they were explaining how to get to the moon and back, but you explained for dummies like me, so good job.
I use Logic Pro X but this tutorial was helpful for me nonetheless! I'm still learning my way around the Maschine so this was such a cool video! Thank You!
Such a nice tutorial! But what if I made a beat in Maschine with the, for example, Cracked Kit. If I drag the Midi over to Ableton the Midi tracks are all empty. How do I get Ableton to play the midi data of the Cracked Kit from Maschine? Is there an easier way than to drag every single part of the Cracked Kit (kick, snare, etc.) as seperate audio files over to Ableton and then put those Audio files into the Drum Rack? Up until now I soloed every single part of Maschine beats, recorded those single parts into Ableton and then sliced the files up and put them into Drum Rack - which takes so much time.
This is great but when I drag over a pattern from maschine into Ableton. It doesn't loop properly. It always has a tail end of blank sound. How do I fix this issue?
great video. thanks. i've had Maschine since late 2011 (and Jam) but i just bought Live Intro a couple days ago. the software is weird to look at, so seeing how Maschine can be integrated like you've shown is pretty amazing
Yo this was so informational and well articulated. It’s apparent you have Komplete Kontrol 😉 of Maschine/Ableton integration. Appreciate you sharing. Liked. Commented. Subscribed. ✌️
Right, you can use Maschine as a midi controller inside Ableton - and there are a bunch of ways to use Maschine with Ableton, this was just something that was working for me - in terms of my personal workflow, and I thought I would share it BUT yes, you definitely need to find out what works best for you...it will be different for everybody.
GREAT VIDEO, is there a way you can do automations on machines affects and controls but in ableton? been struggling to figure this out, any help much apreccited and keep up the quality work
hmmm, good question - maybe someone else on here will know. You can just record the audio into a track in Ableton and use any effects/automation you want to that way... Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching!
Hello, don't you have to define a midi channel for each sound exported in Ableton to make it work ? Cause when I drag and drop in a midi track, it remains dependent of the track on which the Maschine vst is placed...so if this track is muted, all the separated ones won't work And why do you cancel the time signature ? Any advise ? Thx a lot ! Francois
That's a way to do it - but personally that drove me nuts. I cancel the time signature because I know what it is - and so I just let the global time signature in Ableton rule. You don't need those ones that come in from Maschine. You are right that if you drop the midi from Machine into Ableton, you need to have an instrument in Ableton to play the midi. Basically for me, dragging and dropping just proved to be easiest, most straight forward, and most rewarding at the end of the day, so I thought others might be interested in the workflow vs. the midi mapping craziness and straight up using Maschine as a VST in Ableton.
I really have been wanting to get out of sitting at my desk when making music. I've been stuck between MK3 and Push, but I think MK3 is the winner. Easily explained. Thanks!
For me Maschine is really great at getting ideas out there -- letting me make music without any barriers, it's just fun and inspiring in a different way then it is to just use the push. I know for many people it sounds weird to have both pieces of hardware BUT if you are fortunate to have both they work very well together as a part of the entire workflow of making music, at least that's my opinion. Get the idea out on Maschine, feel like you are heading somewhere, and then move it over to Ableton where you can more easily do even MORE with it, effects, automation, maybe even add more to it at that point with the Push, it's hard to articulate but it's definitely like having the best of both worlds to me...
Thx a lot Blake ! Don't you have to configure/assign the midi channels of each instrument of your group to make it work separately in Ableton ? Thx a lot
You are welcome - you can assign and what not but that's now intuitive for me, frankly it's a pain in the butt, so I don't do it that way. Once I started just dragging stuff in, there was no going back for me...
For some reason when I try to drag just the audio the clip is empty? Like no sound at all but it shows two flat lines for the stereo. I can bring in the midi, but not the sound. Anybody has a solution or encountered the same issue?
Do you hold it down and let it do it's thing? Otherwise I haven't had this issue...hopefully google helped you out - there are also tends to be a lot of folks over at the NI Community forum/message boards that are helpful with stuff like this and it might have already been asked there.
